You are absolutely brilliant with ink and stencils!! These were just amazing! I did notice I don’t have really any stencils with big open spaces after a layering stencil video you did. And I have some paint background ls I want to use up and do you think I could remember what you fill the circle die cut out of the panel on your 2for 1 cards? Not for the life time f me! I tried looking for a video but couldn’t find the right one. I’ve really been trying to do new things and use up old backgrounds because I made some new ones with ink and gel press and stencils. I just have to admit that I’m not a real great stencil crafter. I really like die cutting and doing gel press with paints and stencils, inks are ok too. But I’ll never get to where you are if I live to 500 years old! You have amazing skills Ardyth! Just amazing! And embossing stencils is still on my to try list! Lol

I’ve been very busy in my stamp room. I’ll post the cards on IG in a couple weeks. Today I finished Bally tried the Altenew tulip embossing folder and matching stencil. I have the Hosta and the calming cluster flower set with stamp and die and I had never tried these. I might have others but I tried the tulip one. First embossed with folder, then stenciled. Epic fail! It didn’t seem to line up exactly right and I got green from a stem in the side of a tilling petal. Fixed that and when I got finished I just didn’t like it! So then I stenciled first and thought I’d use this photo paper that’s nothing like photo paper. Stenciled beautifully! But I used my sticky Altenew wheel mat and that paper peeled apart!!!! It was like peeling a sticky label off! I had to wash the rest to get the paper off! That was enough stenciling for me!!
@ardyth9 ай бұрын
I've noticed that photo paper can separate pretty easily. You could try flipping it over and peeling the mat away from the paper, rather than trying to peel the paper from the mat, if you know what I mean? But maybe try it on a piece before you do all the work. That's heartbreaking!
@dizzinese9 ай бұрын
@@ardyth it’s only paper. I just knew it wasn’t the day for me. But I had used oxides the second time too and they blend so much better for my inexperienced hands. The photo paper is the worst I had ever bought from a very long time ago when I used to print photos and tried a cheaper paper. It felt so smooth but was matte, I thought maybe it would ink blend well. But after it started to peel, I remembered that I bought the extra sticky mat that’s for using with thicker cardstock because I only use Neenah 110#. It was kind of funny really. Have to laugh at dumb mistakes like that one! Lol

I never used the large or small Gina K brushes for inking because since I don’t use my inks often enough they don’t get loaded up so they won’t let go of the color. So they’re in the sale pile. I found the domed foam work well. And I have pouncers too-2sizes but you can’t use those for blending! I have some smaller brushes but just don’t do well with brushes. The not ones I use a lot are the really small pencil type brushes from altenew. I bought 16 of the stubbies a year or more ago and sent them back. When I tried using my CP inks and a brush today for stenciling, I couldn’t get the ink to lay down. I also think my inks are getting dry from not using them. I haven’t even added the new ones because I figured as little as I use them they’ll just dry out too. All in all, I need a lot more practice with inking stencils! But I think the foamed foam works better for me just because my brushes are still too new so they just soak up ink. Very bad craft day!!but yesterday was a blast inking up embossing folders! I’ve been really trying to use a lot of old/new things I’ve never used. But I think I like the stencils best with the gel plate, ghost prints, and pastes. Still learning.
@ardyth9 ай бұрын
I think you just summarized perfectly how we all have different preferences for what works best for us. Thanks so much for sharing!
@dizzinese9 ай бұрын
@@ardyth I learned really fast that like your blending brushes are heavily used so the ink doesn’t soak way up into the bristles like if they were brand new. Does that make sense? If I got more use out of them I think they’d be great! I just watched how fast Jennifer laid down ink with the large altenew brushes, the round ones which I also have, but haven’t tried because of the same reason. It just comes right out of hers and yours because they’re loaded with ink already. Fortunately I found a much cheaper price for all my tools except the Gina K ones.

On the tree die cut card, did you stencil or die cut first?
@ardyth9 ай бұрын
I stenciled first then die cut very carefully because I wanted the patterns on the green trees to line up with the patterns on the red sky. I hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching!
@rtd17919 ай бұрын
@@ardyth Yes. It does make sense. The Christmas card brought Tim Holtz’s Holiday Blocks to mind. Because I own that die set and because the geometric shapes would pair wonderfully with all kinds of stencils. A similar look would be quite possible. And while typing this I thought about Disney’s It’s a Small World Ride and Mary Blair’s art in general. There’s something there. A germ of an idea. It’s the combination of simple shapes with geometric stenciling, I think. It’s a wonder that Disney has never licensed Small World for a paper crafting line. It is perfect for this. And I am far from the only paper crafter obsessed with Small World and Mary Blair. Small World looks like it was made by paper crafters, especially the earliest version.
