I'm a high school senior and I went to go shadow and Radiologic Tech the other day and enjoy it so much it. Right now, I'm considering it as one of my career options, but I'm a bit socially awkward and never really know what to say in certain situations(especially in terms of bedside manner in the medical field). Do you have any advice on this? Thanks in advance!
@radboy4903 жыл бұрын
In my state, they aren't even allowing shadowing because of covid. Work at retail like dunkin's donuts or a fast food chain, and greet your customers. It will tend to grow on you as you see the same ppl every day. Talk about each others hobbies and things you like to do in your free time. Don't make it personal or to long and just simple. Eye to eye contact is extremely important when working with patients. If your introvert, first importantly "Listen" and then respond to the best of your ability. Ik im gonna be like that once accepted to the program at my first year at a clinical, but just try your best and greet every body. Don't overthink it. Just Go With The Flow.
@XRAYREY3 жыл бұрын
just like Lony said, that would be a great alternative if shadowing or volunteering isn't an option. But all that takes is practice. I would treat everyone you come across at home as a patient. Just get some good dialog throughout your day. Practice makes progress

I LOVE my technique card!! Thanks man! Now question, coming from a first year, first quarter student (me). I’m still getting familiar with all the different X-ray machines at my clinical site and was wondering about how long did it take you to get comfortable or become “natural” to know you techniques?? cuz low key I’m struggling with memorizing ALL of them while including body habitus. 😬
@XRAYREY3 жыл бұрын
Glad you love it! You're very welcome. So as far as getting comfortable with the rooms and machines, it'll take a couple months or so. Depending on how much hands on you get. That's why I say it's important for students to get their hands dirty as much as possible. Techniques, tbh, will take you awhile. I would say a year or so. Depending on how well you grasp the concepts and actually play with the techniques instead of using AEC. I still was a little rough after I graduated.

that I have no idea. I'm sure if you google it will tell you. I do remember them saying if there is anything it's best to let them know sooner than later so you don't waste your time. Also don't lie or keep it a secret, because they will find out. It's a pretty thorough check.

Can you please post some videos about critical thicnking skills. How to the think outside the box when you have the not so normal patient who is in pain and cant move the way you need to get that lateral spine or knee? What are some of your tricks you use to get your patient to do what you need to still get your image?
@XRAYREY3 жыл бұрын
I actually am gonna shoot some film on a broken elbow and the humerus elbow and forearm are ordered. Can you please give me more detail about your suggestion?
@melissaFrogs3 жыл бұрын
@@XRAYREY Okay so I am still a student and I am learning how to deal with trauma situations that arent so close to book positioning. Say someone comes in with a dislocated shoulder and a broken forearm or ribs because of a car reck, how would you respond? If the patient cant move as much as they should and you have to get your protocol (AP,LAT, scap Y or ....) How would you do your patient care to get your images? Say they were in a stretcher and not too coorperative.(screaming,crying, resisting to move part..) Do you shoot cross table in stretcher as is? Do you talk to or push your PT to move into position? (Even patients in wheel chairs..either or) WHat have you found as your first go to that works usually for you in trauma situations when the patient is talking and not completely non-ambulatory ? I guess How do you think outside of the box when that one patient comes through that really makes you think hard. I hope I'm not wasting your time with this. I really do look up to you and I hope I can be a tech like you when I graduate. I check regularly for new videos from you and to check in with the x ray family you've created with your channel!!! I hope this answers your question

If I dont get accepted into xray school next year, I would then have to wait until 2024 to reapply. If that does happen, should I apply for the phlebotomy program next year? Would that be an advantage over other students who apply in the 2024 xray program?
@XRAYREY3 жыл бұрын
Eh... I wouldn't say it would give you that much of an advantage, other than the IV start part. That's honesty something you can learn in the program, as I did. I would look into being a patient transporter or something that would get your foot in the door and get some experience that way.
