This is honestly the version that should have been on the special edition soundtrack, not the one by the rest of the cast.

couldn't agree more. The cast version is terrible.
@virajmali15826 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Michael Caine's voice has nailed it. Cannot imagine any other version to be so amazing.
@mnomadvfx4 жыл бұрын
@@virajmali1582 The Richard Burton version is the best I have heard, and appropo as he is also Welsh as Dylan Thomas who wrote this poem. That being said I was beyond baffled that the far inferior and muddled multi cast recital is on the Interstellar soundtrack instead of the Caine recital from the film itself.

It’s always amazing to see how much influence Dylan Thomas has spread around the world with some of his amazing poems, I always kick myself about the fact I haven’t visited his home in Swansea that’s like a 10 minute drive away. Truly a great poet and pride to Wales 🏴

I listen to this everyday, it keeps me focused and will to actually get up and do something. Take this video as a wake up call do do something with your life. If you just live to eventually die, then life is pointless. Rage against that feeling of weakness and uselessness.

Do not go gentle into that good night , old age should burn and rave at close of day Rage, rage, against the dying of the light Though wise men at their end know dark is right, because their words had forked no lightening they Do not go gentle into that good night 🌌🌠 Rage , rage , against the dying of the light🚀

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

There is my explanation for this poem: After I've listened to the whole poem read by the cast I know it's about death but these particular lines could have a different understanding. Remember the part at the beginning of the movie where they teach kids that the moon landings were fake just to make them less likely to chease knowledge? You could think that these lines are about standing up against this kind of obscurantism. The LIGHT means KNOWLEDGE and Goodninght means Blissful ignorance...
@Nuvendil8 жыл бұрын
DudeNope or you could go back to the original text and find the poem was written to tell the poets father not to "be at leace" or be "calm" or have "hope" facing death, but rather to say "eff that noise, be pissed and shake your fist at death and scrape every last breath possible out of this life you can!" Looking at this, the real meaning of the poem, you can now look at how it relates to the characters Nolan chose to connect to this poem: Mann and the professor. Now in a broader sense this relates to the whole film (launching this insane plan rather than accepting earth's death), but Mann and the professor embody this sentiment: they are raging against the night, doing whatever it takes to scrape out some semblance of existence for humanity - and in the case of Mann, himself - in bitter defiance of death. They stand in stark contrast to Brand, Cooper, Murph, and co who extole love, hope, and risk everything on the off chance they can save lives rather than just preserve human existence. Nolan made this contrast quite intentionally.
