Imo, for a weapon to classify as an "intelligence weapon", I'd want it to scale the best or heavily to int. For example, I don't consider the ruins greatsword to be an intelligence weapon, simply because it has much higher strength requirements and you would not want to run it on an int build or an intelligence leaning int/str hybrid build. Based on this opinion, a few points: 1) Even at 40 int, which is the soft cap for scaling of the demi-human queen staff, it only starts outperforming the meteorite staff at +14, not at +6 like you suggest. If you are trying to build a mage or spellblade and will end up with 50 int or more at the end of your journey, it isn't worth spending the smithing stones getting the demi-human queen staff upgraded since the meteorite staff can carry you to mid/late game where you can switch to the academy glintstone staff or the carian regal sceptor depending on how high you're planning to push int. If you are planning on doing low level pvp, you likely aren't upgrading your weapons to max to stay in the brackets, so in the vast majority of cases, meteorite is your go to. 2) Carian Regal Sceptor overtakes the Academy glintstone staff at 68 int, but imo is worth using even before that point due to its unique weapon art. 3) Lusat is basically never worth it unless you're at 80 intelligence or beyond. At lower levels of int, any extra scaling that Lusats gives you can be overcome by just speccing your mind to int. Example: Say you have a build that ends up with 30 mind and 70 intelligence. Lusat's at this point has 364 sorcery scaling, and you have 173 fp. Your equivalent fp for spellcasting is 173/1.5 = 115.3 (116 rounded up). Now if you moved 10 points of mind to intelligence to end up with 20 mind and 80 int and switch to the regal sceptor; Regal Sceptor has 373 sorcery scaling (more than Lusat's at 70 int), and you have 121 fp (more effective fp than using lusats with 30 mind). 4) Loretta's war sickle isn't a very good weapon below level 200ish. You'll get more damage out of using loretta slash using other magic infused halberds or reapers, and loretta's war sickle has this weird tri-scaling with best scaling in dex, so if you wanted to maximise its damage (AR), you'll have to take quite a few points out of your spellcasting. The guardian swordspear will share the same moveset as loretta's but the best option for that ash of war on a magic build is probably with either vulgar militia shotel or one of the scythes, simply because they also give the ash and your regular attacks shield pierce, and you are gonna have a difficult time against blockers unless you're running ambush shard, night comet/shard or carian slicer (that is of course if you're trying to be FP efficent). 5) Lazuli's glintstone sword isn't a very good weapon either. Yes, it's heavy attack and charged heavy attack includes a block, but 1) straight swords don't have great guard boost or damage negation, so it's a bad idea to use this as a trade, since you're gonna be talking a not inisgnificant amount of damage if you try this against tougher mobs. 2) Because of the guard mechanic, their heavy and charged heavy attacks don't deal as much poise damage as regular and charged heavies from other straight swords. Finally, the glintstone pebble skill that it has will be doing less damage than if you were to just used a magic infused sword carrying the glintstone pebble ash of war. If you are a pure mage, the best straight sword to use is the noble slender sword, because it's the longest and has the least requirements (8 str and 11 dex), which means that you can one hand this sword and use it effectively as an astrologer starter with no points needing to be invested in strength or dexterity. If you are above 10 str and 16 due to other weapons that you maybe using, then imo, the best straight sword to use becomes the war hawk's talons, simply because it's moveset is a lot cooler imo with those dashing heavy attacks. 6) You do mention this, but starscourge greatsword is mostly a strength weapon. This is important to consider because you'd never want to cast spells if this is your primary weapon, since you want to pump mainly strength for it's damage, and imo, at endgame, unless you have over 50 intelligence, your damage while spellcasting is too low for it to be a serious part of your arsenal. I don't get how you could include starscourge greatsword but not sword of night and flame, considering that the sword of night and flame is more of an int weapon than the starscourge greatsword. 7) No honorable mentions for clayman's harpoon, bastard stars, glintsone kris and royal greatsword (the only unique colossal weapon that is actually a mostly int weapon)? 8) The fallingstar beast jaw is mainly a quality weapon. You do not want to make a str/int build around it. The damage of its weapon art is also like 80% or more physical due to the scalings of the weapon, and the weapon and its weapon art do very low magic damage. To maximise the damage on the weapon and its skill, you'd want to meet the minimum requirements for int and then pump strength and dex equally. At a 90 point investment level (suitable for around RL170), you get most damage on the weapon and weapon skill by going 50 str/50 dex/20 int.

Thanks for educating me on a few other things - I had forgotten what level Carian Regal becomes stronger than Academy and now I don't need to look it up :)

Another good place to farm the Lazuli Glintstone Sword is the Schoolhouse Classroom site of grace. A sorcerer in beige robes that patrols right outside the room in the hallway that leads to radagons red wolf can drop it. Just spawn, start sneaking to the bottom of the little stairs and pause 2 seconds to let him pass you. Get out, un-alive him and get back to the grace - takes only about 20-30 seconds per try and no other enemies get involved. Fun Fact: The Lazuli Glintstone Sword is actually made of wood.

Dual wield staff of loss for casting night comet (I think is the spell name) to do the maximum amount of damage in the game in NG1 or later. This multiplies the spells damage by 1.3 then by 1.3 again. Start with Rennala's or Ranni's, then Terra magical, then night comet. Remember that the scaling isn't the only measurement, you have to multiply by the school buff if there is one.

I used the Regal Scepter my entire 1st playthrough but then I discovered the power of Night sorceries. Staff of Loss +25 in my right hand, Staff of Loss +24 in my left, and Night Comet has been my favorite setup. The biggest waste of FP is when enemies dodge your spells. I also find myself using Ambush Shard quite often which is also buffed by both staffs.

When you cast something, only the scaling of the item you're using to cast is taken into consideration. You don't need to upgrade the 2nd staff. Just having it in the other hand for the double dip from the passive is enough. Same happens with seals.

Sword of St Trina is another decent semi-Int weapon that you can get early with just a stonesword key, it is more of a quality weapon than an Int one. It has very low stat requirements, decent move set, and can do sleep a very underrated status aliment. It's not powerful and doesn't scale well in late game but its a great item early on. Its a sleeper weapon, pun intended.

Lately I’ve been using the meteoric ore blade to wreck imps around corners. But Nebula works the same way, as does cannon of Haima. I love killing enemies through walls and obstacles.

I just finished my second play through using my first ever mage build in a FromSoftware game..I ended up using meteorite staff up till the end game then I switched to Azurs staff and those two carried me through the game..I had 70 int 40 vig, 50 fp, and 30 end with a little bit dumped into the rest for spell usage..I used rock sling,great glintstone shard,azurs comet and the bow that shoots 4 arrows..I used a rapier and upgraded it and used the grand carion ash until I got Wing of Astel then fully upgraded it..That combo worked well for me and let me destroy anything insight…Wing of Astel completely melted Elden beast in 7 blasts lol..Almost forgot I used the Perceptors armor set as when using this build I found I didn’t take much damage at all because of the distance you can have while taking out enemies along with spirit ashes on the bosses I didn’t take much damage…

Another weapon that hasn’t been getting love or use is the occult serpent curved sword. It’s custom for ashes but it’s unique since any kill in range(caused by you or someone else) replenishes your health per death. Lesser or greater enemies give you health.As long as it’s equipped, either free hand or main, it will give health. It doesn’t even need to hit, just there. It can be paired with Wings since they are both curved and use of nebula on groups will give you like a second life!👌

Why no love for Glintstone Kris? The Chargeble AOW glintstone dart (with appropriate talismans) can cost less FP and hit harder than Lazuli Glintstone Sword's glintstone pebble, with the same lunge-in follow up. It's chargeable too. Hits harder than comet, for significantly lower FP. Plus it scales on Int and Dex (rather than Str), and Dex has better synergy for an Int build (faster casting time). It's my go-to weapon for stealthing around a dungeon one-shotting many of the monsters lurking about, then switching to a stronger melee weapon like Moonveil or Wing of Astel for the bigger challenges.

As far as 125 to 150 builds go, I feel the beast jaw is very tough to spec into. For higher level builds I assume it’s easy, but for people trying to stay around meta levels you may have to sacrifice to make a build with that work

I've made almost every build that this channel has posted about and none of them quite do as well as chain casting ancient death rancor with 2 death staffs fully buffed. Send out a summon to take the aggro and charge the first shot. I've never struggled with this build, ever

I think the Sacrificial Axe, The Glintstone Kriss, and the Claymans Harpoon deserve an honorable mention. The first for High int low mind builds. The second for its charged attack and pairs nicely with the Crystal knife. The last for dealing with undead and being awesome. You can put sacred blade on a normal claymans harpoon and still have an intelligence buffed weapon and do faith damage. You can also give it spinning weapon and buff it with scholars/frozen armament and put the pizza cutter to shame.

The Clayman's Harpoon is a MUST HAVE for any Intelligence build, no other Intelligence weapon can be tailored to fit what you want it to do like the Clayman's Harpoon can. I swear that thing was DESIGNED to be buffed with Scholar's Armament. It deserved more than just an honorable mention, it deserved as full spot over Loretta's War Sickle.

Wing of Astel and Regal Scepter for the Win on a 80 Int build easy. The ash of war has insane poise damage as well. Too many strength points needed for the Falling star Beastjaw. Consider adding the Gravity pull ash of war to your favorite basic weapon and add magic scaling to it.

I got every single thing in the game on my first playthrough, I reckon. Took 265 hours so I hope so. I combed through every map very thoroughly. Killed every single thing on the map besides the ghost dragon dudes in the consecrated snowfield.

The death poker is great in PVP. The ash of war is unpredictable because the initial start of it will do insane frostbite damage if you poke them right before they attack you and then you can still roll away, or you can punish those who try to trade by smashing them with an explosion, usually knocking them over, or create some safe space between you and them by leaving black flames on the ground. Plus, the unique charged heavy attack will catch people rolling 9 times out of ten. Paired with the blasphemous blade in my left hand, and people never know which way I'm going to smack them on their ass. The worse part about fighting someone with a death poker is they can trade for insane amounts of damage. I can't tell you how many times the ash of war has given me a win even though I technically died first from their swing, because they walked into my ash of war and died from frostbite after they hit me. I don't know why it counts as my win, and I always feel bad about it. It's overpowered in PVE, but in PVP its pretty fair because of its slow speed. I have fought many of people who know how to abuse its spacing with the small explosion radius, and if they have a longer weapon, its very easy for them to roll away and come back with a counter before the animation for the ash of war is over.

Another semi-niche pick is Clayman's Harpoon. Mostly because you can choose any ash of war and buff it. More an early to midgame option as it doesn't compare to to very best INT weapons. I do think it's better than the Luzuli Glintstone Sword and I like that quite a bit.

If you put impaling thrust with ice, it will help with bosses by breaking poise and those pesky shield enemy’s. It can break the stances of two handed knights and warriors. Also putting glinstone phalanx can be a bonus for poise breaking and then cast another attack with your staff in the other hand👌

@@ruKUSS_.117 also if you're willing to make use of Scholar's Armament and buff the thing then you have a much wider pool of Ashes of War, Flame of the Redmanes in particular can be used to reset Frostbite (Adula's Moonblade, Glintstone Icecrag, Freezing Mist, Ranni's Dark Moon, Zamor Ice Storm), Specrtal Lance has excellent reach that can be boosted with the Arrows Reach Talisman, and if you're a Dex/Int build then Thunderbolt is a good choice with Keen just to name a few of the unconventional options you have.

I prefer the pike for spears since it’s the longest of all spears and using that your your build would benefit it a lot since enemies just have a harder time getting in stabbing or cutting range.

Rock sling is amazing, the single best spell untill you get night comet, at least for PvE. The poise damage is extreme and it does physical damage. It melts bosses. Night comet is undodgeable and quick to cast so it's the best. There is an invisible staff but it's not great. Not sure about this but I think it buffs effect time of the actual invisible spell, which is very helpful for PvE mages. Regular enemies are more dangerous to mages than bosses are.

I think the darkmoon greatsword is definitely the best one, after all the buffs and fixes. The R2 gets buffed by magic dmg buffs, charged attack buffs and skill buffs (like shard of alex). It's ridiculous, and it doesn't even consume FP. The only things that come close, imo, are Nebula, Moonveil and maybe Fallingstar Beast Jaw.

You must have missed the past patch notes but Falling Star Beast jaw poise damage got nerfed into the ground. Making it now a C tier Int weapon at best. Moonveil, Wing of Astel, Death Poker, are the best top tier Int weapons in my opinion. Darkmoon Greatsword is good, not a great as many claim, but I'd put it over Beast Jaw now.

The dark Moon gs is either the best or second best weapon in the game. The only one even close is the blasphemous Blade. I one phased Margit yesterday in Ng. I was a bit over leveled because I did the entire underground minus the mohg boss fights.

@@joshuatucker2521 ok I just one phased margott killed duo tree avatar before they split into two. I used it before too and it was decent but the added weapon detection on r2s is doing 2-3.5 k with no fp usage. I'm shredding bosses faster than I did with the blasphemous blade. I'd say damage wise the dark Moon is higher but the bb has the health regain. I don't even have the magic charm talisman and I still have to get the shard of Alexander. I do have the Godfrey icon. It works for charged r2s and the ritual sword talisman. I'd say try it again. You're wrong

Not really unless you're going to be super over leveled. It's better to dump your stats into one or two damage categories. Like dex and int or str and faith. Quality builds with equal str and dex are usually underpowered in comparison to a dex or STR build. Good thing you can use a larval tear and Respec if u need to

@@sablemae8853 it’s kinda disappointing since there are so many cool weapons and armor that I just can’t carry without a ridiculous amount of endurance, but that would make my other stats suffer. I guess if you’re going for an absolute tank build it makes sense, but that armor seems like the only way to survive scarlet rot and poison, I see people running effortlessly through Caelid on foot and it seems to do nothing to them.

@@necrogenesis1981 there is and when I first started souls games I was the same. But if you spec into a couple categories you'll still have a lot of choices and they'll be more effective. There's a lot of weapons I could use still even on a focused build. I think with 40 endurance you could probably hold a couple weapons to switch between. Without knowi your stats and where your at in the game that's about all I can say. I'll finish of with my stats for my int build. I'm level 115 vig 43 mind 22 end 24 str 16 dex 20 int 52.. my focus was get to the base weapon requirements for the dark Moon gs get my health and int up with enough mind and endurance to where a few different outfits. Even at 24 endurance I have blaidds armor with the carian helmet. Hopefully that helped in some way

Demihuman staff is not worth upgrading at all once you take into account that Meteorite boosts a hefty 30% using rock sling. You're much better off spending those resources upgrading a longbow and a rapier as sidearms.

I have to disagree, on my Strength/Intelligence build at +18 (can buy up to that point) it's my strongest Staff, I have 31 Intelligence and 26 Strength (31 with Starscurge Heirloom), eventually it will be outclassed by the Academy Glintstone Staff when I go to 45/45 Str/Int, but you can get a LOT of mileage out of it. Also getting it to +12 isn't that difficult as you can get the Bell Bearings that allow you to buy your way up to +12 within the first few hours of the game. It's an excellent staff for builds that put a big part of their stats into either Strength or Dexterity and tend to have an even distribution between them, if were talking a heavier focus on Intelligence, then you have a bit of a case, but the Str/Dex melee Sorcerer hybrid builds can get a LOT of mileage out of that thing. This thing and Scholar's Armament kind of go hand-in-hand with each other.

Not including the Clayman's Harpoon was a big mistake, no other Intelligence weapon can either be BUFFED or CUSTOMIZED like the Clayman's Harpoon. Its hands-down one of the best Intelligence weapons in the game because of its flexibility that NO other Intelligence weapon offers. Buffing it with Scholar's Armament is insane and allows you to use ANY Ash of War on your Intelligence build that Spears can use, not just being locked to the Magic, Cold or physical ones. Some good ones include: 1. Flame of the Redmanes for resetting Frostbite (and poise-breaking enemies pre-nerf) 2. Thunderbolt on Dexterity/Intelligence builds (Keen, its Strength oriented, but Keen does solid damage) for some unexpected elemental damage, note that the damage scales off of Dexterity, not any innate Lightning damage (making the Lightning affinity worse for Lightning AoWs) 3. Spectral Lance for a long-range stagger machine (Arrow's Reach Talisman helps amplify this) 4. Blood Tax for health recovery and rapid-fire thrusts 5. Golden Vow if you're willing to give up an Ash of War 6. Sacred Blade/Sacred Order/Shared Order, for keeping Skeletons down, not much use otherwise However if you're looking at going either Magic or Cold Affinity then these are some good choices: 1. Spinning Slash, sweeping attacks 2. Piercing Fang/Impaling Thrust, gives you a thrusting attack with good reach 3. Sword Dance, another non-thrusting attack 4. Any Magic/Cold Ash of War the Clayman's Harpoon can use, this one is self-explanatory, Ice Spear and Loretta's Slash in particular are worth mentioning.

after getting the meteorite staff and rock sling you can also grab night comet and staff of loss since your already in the area. after killing the big dragon with bleed and using a gold foot, you will get to level 38 im pretty sure, which equals to 45 int, so you can use night comet right away. with that you should be strong enough to beat the nox boss and get the lusats staff right at the start of the game, there is really no reason to use any other staff besides meteorite staff and lusats in my opinion, everything else is outclassed by default. only the death prince staff will eventually get better than lusats once your level 250 or so, but thats NG+ only, so it doesnt really matter. also you dont seem to understand the value of lusats judging from the video, yes lusats will make your spells cost 50% more fp, however you fail to understand, that if you kill an enemy in one hit with lusats where you would need 2 hits with a different staff, that means your cost is actually 50% lower than the other staff, and its twice as powerful, even if its only 1 more point of damage, 1 hit is twice as strong as needing 2 hits, so lusats is way better in 99% of cases. and also for bosses there is the cerulean hidden tear which removes the downside completely. so its better for fighting regular enemies and also better for fighting bosses as well, its a no brainer. if you wanna minimize fp costs the best way to do it is actually use your spells wisely and dont overkill them with night comet, if you dont really need it, just carry glintstone pebble arround if you think you dont need the extra power from night comet. think of it this way: a pebble from lusats costs 11 fp, a night comet from any other staff costs 21, so lusats wins in fp consumtion once again, provided the enemy is too strong to be killed by a weaker staff with pebble, but you dont really need a stronger spell when using lusats. i also think all of the other weapons are not that great when compared to casting spells, no matter how good these weapons are they are all close range which kinda defeats the entire purpose of doing an int build, and they can never compete with the dps of comet azur or adulas moonblade, even the moonlight greatsword is pretty weak by comparison. they just add extra weight which forces you to spec into endurance which you cant really do early on without losing some damage, and you never wanna lose damage as a sorcerer. you never need a close range option, since there is stuff like carian slicer and adulas moonblade. there is no universal rule that forces you do use a melee weapon, just because you can do it, doesnt mean you have to, its not a waste or whatever you wanna believe, i view it as a waste if you use sombering on a shitty weapon that couldve went into upgrading lusats instead. the best offhand weapon for a sorcerer is actually the jellyfish shield, since that will boost all your spells by 20%, or staff of loss if your using night comet, for 30% extra damage. everything else is redundant, the most useful thing you could use would be a random light dagger with assasins gambit, but thats for utility, not for damage and it doesnt need to be upgraded either. to me using an int weapon that isnt a staff is kinda like chosing to use the basic club when there is the giant crusher available, will the club get you through the game? probably, but the giants crusher would make your life 100 times easier, same goes for using sorcery vs using a melee weapon, even if their ash of war is very powerful like wing of astel, you dont really want to get that close to the enemy to begin with, its way easier to snipe everything from range. the falling star beast claw has actually range, but its really weak and needs a ton of stat investment, once again handycapping all your other sorceries, i would do either or, either specialize your entire build for some ash of war, or be a optimized sorcerer, mixing it up is not the best idea, but i personally think sorceries heavily outclass even the best ashes of war.

Loretta's war sickle isnt that good imo. You can literally get the same moveset with the Guardians Swordspear, and you can also put the Loretta's Slash aow on it, which scales even better than on the War Sickle. TLDR: FromSoft, please buff the war sickle.

With how well Elden Ring has sold it would be STUPID for them not to make a DLC, also LanceMcdolanld seems to know stuff about issues that happened behind the scenes that he can't talk about just yet. It seems like the Arena Update was supposed to be a small part of a bigger DLC. That and they ADDED like 30 new slots for bosses as well as some other stuff in the game's code that leads to the idea that there will be DLC (new map IDs that aren't currently used), you don't just add that stuff in for no reason.
