From experience I'd say I get your point, but elbows are still more effective than punches, as long as you don't mind taking a few hits to the face, that close range elbow to the jaw is a one hitter quitter
@StillElias
@StillElias 7 жыл бұрын
Joshua C thats using your elbow as offence which is a good idea, but using your elbow to block punches seems like an unnecessary risk when your other option is to dodge, clinch, use their forward momentum to throw them(ippon seoi nage)

Chrisferatu that is the best advice the man gave. Do NOT punch unless you have a clean, unobstructed path to the opponent's chin or chest or nutsack. This isn't MMA or boxing, this is street brawling without rules. The absolute best thing you can do though is to avoid such situations altogether. Just walk away and stay alive.

I actually broke my friend's hand when he chase me in 'play' fight when i ran, then i stopped immediately when he's about to punch me, I ducked my head and raised my elbow backward. He hit my elbow with full force. I didn't even realized he hit my elbow, and he's screaming in pain and his hand swell for 2 weeks. It's 10 years ago So I think elbow will definitely crush a fist if you're in fight and someone was trying to punch you wildly. Of course you have to move your head and elbows too...

However, many here, forgot the purpose of this lesson, which was NOT how to defend against a punch, but to demonstrate the possible consequence of throwing a punch, in a street fight.
@oneandonly3037
@oneandonly3037 7 жыл бұрын
The point of contact could be the elbow, or the head or wall, if you miss. You might be better served, striking with a palm or edge of hand. That's what I've come to understand, after initially focusing on the elbow block.

Most street fights aren't between professional fighters. They usually know better and don't have anything to prove. Breaking your hand is a real concern, they don't even have to put an elbow up. If you punch someone above the forehead you can also break your hand. I've heard people say open palm strikes are good. But really it depends on who you're fighting. I've punch a lot of people in fights, never broke my hand. Haven't been in a fight for almost a decade but In my personal experience, what usually happens is people throw a few punches than someone grabs the other person, this is where wrestling comes in handy. Most people are terrible at wrestling, I've defeated people a lot bigger and stronger than me because of it. So if you're concerned about self defense I would say boxing, Muay thai and wrestling are the way to go. Boxing will teach you how to throw a solid punch. Muay thai teaches you elbows and kicks. Wrestling will cover grabbing.

if you drive a low toe pinto to the ankle it won't be a risk to loose your balance, I mean if you loose your balance toe punting a ball for example you should just run from a fight really, let's be honest martial arts are great but some shit that comes out of these guys is utter shit! elbow? one the most sensitive nerve places on your body? come one, stick to improvisation in a street fight if your not in a martial arts class!

@timithy4569

Go to a boxing gym and box a newbie to find out. The answer is a yes. You can raise your arms up in the time that someone comes up and tries to punch you if you notice the threat is coming. You can get your arms up, turn your body, and nail the guy after his punches wiff. If the person knows how to throw a jab and distance, that is a bit of a different story. Imagine a dog running at you. It doesn't take long to turn your body, and to protect yourself. If the person tries to hit you as fast as possible, that's a different matter.

Florian Ju Hands can crack skulls too. What point are you making?
@florianju5638
@florianju5638 7 жыл бұрын
Tunji Legba It is not important if the opponent actually blocks anything. You should never use an unprotected fist against anybody's head. Only attack soft targets with a fist, use your palm/elbow/knee for everything hard or pointy. Given that you want as unhurt as possible, of course. If you break your hand by hitting somebody's head, you decrease your chances of winning the fight and failed to stay unharmed. This ist particulary bad in those chases, where there might be more than one attacker, or the one you are fighting and just broke your hand on is still standing. So he is not overestemating his opponents. Although he only talks about purposfully blocking, same goes for hard/ponty body parts in general, be it "hit by accident" or UNDERESTIMATING physics.
@tunjilegba
@tunjilegba 7 жыл бұрын
Florian Ju Ive been in 6 fights on the street and numerous group scuffles. Never broke my hand only bruised knuckles. Ironically i have mashed my elbow where I couldn't straighten it for a week. There is no one size fits all advice when it comes to street fighting. Broken bones are generally accidents. Different people have different bone density some people have hands of stone some people just ride pain better.
@florianju5638
@florianju5638 7 жыл бұрын
Tunji Legba *laugh* What point are you making? The number of people who got seriouse hand damage from actually HITTING bones is far higher, then the number of those, who stood unharmed. Fact. And YES, that makes it a one size fits all advice. Generally you are very much better of, if you train NOT to use your fist. Even for trained bare knuckle fighters that is a valid and good advice (i.e STOP bare knuckle fighting at all, IF you want to stay unharmed). There is nothing to argue here. Good luck denying physics though.

One thing most people don't realize in that some places a closed fist punch above the neck can be considered deadly physical force. When I received defensive tactics training in law enforcement we were told a lot of what is in this video and it is an excellent video, because if you use a close fist punch and you get the guy in the throat or he happens to have a seizure, anything, etc. you could face charges for that, we were taught nothing but a palm strike above the neck and I know several guys who are now in their 50's and 60's who used to get in fights in bars, and can barely write their name because of all the busted knuckles. Great video.

Well what I meant was, we taught people how to avoid a fight as well as how to handle yourself while in one. It is absolutely an instructors job to teach the discipline to not use fighting skills unless necessary. My father ran a dojo and I wasn't interested in going but I started getting into lots of fights, he forced me to start training and I stopped fighting outside when I learned to fight and more importantly how not not fight.
@MinkiSansChannel

jesycomb I have a 2nd Dan, I have trained in 5 different martial arts. I can tell you for an absolute fact that I have had less fights since learning to fight than I did before. Training to fight gives you the self control and discipline to not get into fights. I am old and fat now, but when I was younger I would be fighting all the time. When my Dad made me train to fight properly, I simply didn't feel the need to get into fights. I am a Dad now, and I will make sure that my son learns to fight so that he doesn't get into fights either. You will be surprised how few people want to mess you up after you stop looking for trouble!

I wonder how many people think like this but I am pretty sure 100% they are so pussy to ever get in a fight. Even iron Mike Tyson broke his fists in street fight.

Julian Maguire It's completely legal if its self defense. Call you local sheriff's office and ask them, "If somebody attacks me, whether an adult or teenager (minor) Do i have the legal right to: pepper spray, stab, baton, or shoot the attacker?"; and the answer will be "Yes".
