The real issue is thinning hair at the scalp area due to the weight of the locs as they grow over time. After 12yrs I chose healthy hair over locs. I cut them off. And went to the dermatologist who helped me restore my naturally thick healthy again hair. I do not regret getting the sisterlocs and I don’t regret cutting them off.

@@SharidaM They will definitely feel heavy after they are washed or in the summer due to sweating and needing to wash more frequently. Every summer I consider cutting, but I know that is just temporary. I live in the desert so the summers are brutal. But just daily (hair length is down to top of my behind) they do not feel heavy, possibly because I've just gotten used to it as it has grown out. Additionally, since there is no product being put in my hair all the time, there is nothing to weigh it down unless it is wet. Ask people with long hair that is not loc'd, they have the same issue.

My install was 400, 10 years ago with a few inches of hair. My reti now are 30 per hour and it takes 2 hours to do my hair. I had a lot of dandruff prior to my install. I have not had any since. My install was 24 hours. I have 594 sisterlocks. I get my reti every six weeks. I have no sisterlock breakage. I used products to curl my hair. In the beginning I colored my hair before my install and touched up my roots once a month. I did a full color at 1 year. I used a particular shampoo that helped my sisterlocks seal within 6 months. I'm sisterlocked about 9 yrs at this point. Everything Sharida said is 100% on point. I'm here after all these years, loving my hair, but tiring of the regular retightening and the time and money it takes due to the length and fact I have very thick hair which means I probably have over 600 locs. I'm not one to do a lot with my hair in regards to color so that was never an issue for me. I love not having to buy a bunch of products for my hair. My hair was and is beautiful. People know what they are at this point so, I never get asked that question anymore. Remember whatever you do to your hair, you are doing it FOR YOU. This is not a committment you take on to please anyone else. I have enjoyed my loc journey, but a 2nd big chop may be coming in 2022. The funny thing is the same folks who didn't want me to loc do not want not me to cut my hair...but again, it is my hair reality, not about their hair dreams. :-) All types of locs are beautiful. Pick what what you love, have time for, and can afford. I think if I do chop and decide to loc again, I would want to learn how to to do something I can completely maintain myself.

This channel came thru my feeds. This is the first video I've ever seen of this channel shout out to the beautiful creator 🥰 But since I'm here I just wanted to share my natural hair story. So I was stressed in 2018 and my hair started falling out. I went from a head of hair to a mini fro within months. It was devastating. At the time I had a friend who rocked a short fade and said go for it. So I did. I cut off all of my hair for two years. I loved it. During year two my hair started growing faster than I could afford to cut it at the barbers so I let it grow. During that time I learned my hair is really dry when left in a fro. So I remembered a friend from highschool who kept her natural hair twisted all the time. And it was down her back. So i twisted mine for awhile and noticed my hair locked in moisture well like that. Then i said hmmmm let me do this same thing with braids. I have a term called intermittent locking in which my hair is in single box braids no weave and I treat them like locs. I wash my hair with them braided everything. My hair is growing by leaps and bounds. Every few months I take them down and refresh moisturize and rebraid. I do it just short of my hair trying to Permanently lock. It has been the best for me. I never heard of sister locs but they are beautiful. However with the way my bank account is set up at the current moment 😭 it's a strong no for me and I have dermititis like baddddd dermititis. But they are simply beautiful and I'm still going to continue to research about them! Thank you Queen.

When I began my locs, I started off with brotherlocs (sisterlocs, but for a guy). It was much more inexpensive then, but expensive for the time (this was about 13-15 years ago). Because of my hair type, I stopped going because the process wasn’t right for my hair type. My hair started thinning; one of my friends with finer hair than mine had the same experience. At that time, my income tax checks were $2,000. I was, like, whet? $2,000? My hair ain't even that long! She, said, it's not about your length, but that you have alot of hair and it's going to take a super long time to do it. Sister locs are gorgeous but I'm not getting done for all these reasons. I remember when my friend started her loc journey and told me she wasn't getting sister locs because they are expensive to maintain. I am also someone with thick hair so I don't think it would work for me. Plus I don't even have the patience so I hurt admire them on other women lol.

I had a hairdresser years ago that told me to stop putting grease in my scalp. I followed her directions thinking she was crazy. After 2 months I had no dandruff and healthy hair and scalp. Apple cider vinegar rinse and thats it...and I did not have sisterlocks.
@SharidaM Жыл бұрын
Yeah so much of dandruff is simply dried oil flaking off the scalp so adding more oil to the scalp can cause it.

Thank you for this excellent info! I can't stop looking at how gorgeous your locks look! 😊 I've wanted sister locks for years, but I thought that with my very fine and thin hair, it just wouldn't be possible and/or wouldn't look right. I am happy now to see that thin/fine hair is not a barrier for getting sister locks, and I am relieved that I am more informed about the process before I make that leap by watching excellent videos such as this. Thank you so much! 💯

Some of this is subjective. I've been locked going on 11 years.... my reties started out at every 3-4 weeks but once my locks matured I go every 6-8. I paid $75 and I only pay between $85-95 depending on the consultant I go to because I have two.

Thank you for this. I don't have your hair texture but I've learnt a lot from your video. It's interesting to know about more various hair care routines/treatments and understand better what people go through with their particular hair type. I have very thick bushy/ wavy asian hair and always sort of petrified of going to mainstream hairdressers who tend to cut for more volume! I find I always get a better service with a Japanese or Korean hair studio.

Once you learn to self retighten “teach” a family member. It’s a time commitment but it’s worth it. As far as medication on your scalp, talk to several SisterLocticians. If a dermatologist says you can use it, the consultant will likely say it’s also ok.
