I love how respectful and honest you were in tackling this subject. It's rare to see with someone who actually has Sisterlocks. I was the third in my family to get locks. Two of my sisters were installed by Sisterloctitians whose names were gotten off of the website; only one actually got Sisterlocks. When I decided to lock I went the Microlocks route because I've been a DIYer for majority of my natural hair journey (now 8 years and counting) I fully intended to keep it that way. I felt that 250 locs would be something I could handle by myself when it came to self-retie (this was even pre-pandemic). I ended up with 237 and boy! when that volume kicked in, was I glad I got that few

I have microlocs and I love them. My locs looked like sisterlocs for the first two years. Now four years later they are the size I wanted and I interlock every two months. I braided my hair to start them and used the sister loc grid. I do not palm roll ever and my hair is waist length and not heavy . I get compliments on my hair all the time. My ends are not locked that's just my hair but I love my microlocs.

My microlocs were done with the interlocs method and I have tiny locs. 450 locs on very fine low density hair. I had sisterlocs previous. My hair didn't do well with it for some reason. My microlocs seem to be a tighter install and they are just as small. Both methods are great. As you said it depends on the person and what they like and want.

This is by far the best video I have seen on the difference between Sisterlocks vs Microlocs, thank you for that! Your hair looks amazing!! At first I wanted Sisterlocks but for me it was the price that deterred me. I did Microlocs myself by watching KZbin videos. I am happy with my hair, of course the grid not that great, but for me it's fine and I wish I had done it sooner and didn't waste money on relaxers. One thing I would have done differently is took more time to get thoroughly educated on locs in general first. That said I still am very happy with my choice!

I have 280 microlocs 😊. I’ve always loved sisterlocs but i wanted to be able to self maintain. I wanted my daughter, (a licensed cosmetologist and loctition), to install them. I also wanted them on the medium to larger side if i had gotten sisterlocs. This is my 3rd set of locs. (They were traditional before.) Best decision ever!

Thank you so much for this amazing unifying video! I had micro Locs for three years, then have them unraveled and cut my hair. Now I am planning on having my locks re-installed after four years. I was debating which route to go the last time I had my hair done. I used too much Shea butter, resulting in a lot of buildup and lint. I wholeheartedly. Agree on doing a lot of research before you have an install. My loctician was from Brooklyn. She herself has micro Locs and her Locs look absolutely amazing. That is a telltale sign right there. Sadly, she has move down south and I am in New England. I have found a sisterlocs consultant and a microloc Loctician in Boston. After this video, I am going to cancel my appointment with the Sister Loc consultant. I have a number of children husband home practice I just have way too much going on to be able to maintain my hair. Time is of the essence. I wholeheartedly agree that women need to stop bashing, one another, and develop some form of respect. We don’t always have to be right, and this stems back from our ancestors history of trauma. Many of us women have a lot of work to do. Thank you again, both you and your Locs are beautiful 🤎🤎🤎

I have sisterlocks. Had them since 2013. I did a lot of research. Almost got "sistah locs" from the braid shop that was down the street for $50. I found a natural hair salon with a consultant and a trainee. It wasn't too far from me. Price was decent too. Win Win. If I lived in a different area or if I found a microloc person I would have went that route.

I’ve had sisterlocks. I absolutely loved them. The only area of opportunity is this: when a loctician puts 800 locks in your head and then charges you more because your retie took longer then the set time. This literally was my only complaint. Micro Locs: I feel if you are a DYI’er it’s doable. If not you just have to be very careful on who you have start them. I had a bad experience there as well.

I have sister locks, and I love them. I wish I had of had micro locks installed only because of the price. I researched sister locks for months and my loctician was thorough with the information and teaching. And honestly, I didn't see the tool she used, and she is strictly by the book. I've had them a little over a year and they have expanded. I wanted them really thin, but my hair density wouldn't allow it. It took 3 days about an estimated 21 hours. I'm actually planning to take classes to become a loctician. Thank you for this video, I'm still looking for ways to keep my hair healthy, and I found this interesting.

This video was really helpful. I just shaved off tailbone length locs that I grew for 6 yrs. I had smaller ones in the front, really big ones in the back, and no middle or right side part. I'm bald now lol, but when my hair grows back out, I definitely want to go way smaller with a more consistent grid. I can always combine them later if i choose to go larger is my thinking. I also wanted an understanding of what micro locs were so I could decide if that was what I was going for. I want smaller, neater locs that are small enough to give me even more volume than I had before, but without being so small that I HAVE to go to someone else to maintain them. My threshold is that I need to be able to take care of them myself if needed. If I can't, they're too small and too specialized

I had a consultation with a certified sisterlocks consultant, who does not use the sisterlocks tool, she says she uses the reverse 4 pattern on everyone, she takes only two days to install everyone and that I should follow all the rules. Here is the kicker, my installation price was $1800. She was lovely, beautiful and had great energy, but give me a break my hair is not even 15 inches all over, but you can install me the same mount of time as a person with 4 inches. I would never pay that much for the installation and more importantly there were too many red flags.

@@shanahoward1868 This ultimately comes down to how your hair decides to lock itself (genetics) and how long it takes to lock. I've seen results similar to her's on both Microlock and Sisterlock wearers with some women years into their journey. Some people's curls go away after 5 years and look like traditional locks. Others hair kept the curls and just got longer with more volume. I don't recommend starting this journey expecting your hair to look like someone else's. It typically ends in disappointment.

Beautiful commentary on SL 😊 But please be careful out here when it comes to your SL , everyone is not out here for your good on your hair periodT. I let a girl In Hayward CA, name Kristin do my Sisterlock install- 🤦🏽♀️ she was awful to say the least and very unprofessional. I went to her for a couple of more months, but my gut told me to stop going to her. She did not know what she was doing. She did not do the Sisterlocs grid- she messed up my hair- and had the nerve to get upset because I stopped tipping her. In the meantime I was looking for a new sister Loctician ….and I actually reported her to Sisterlock foundation . I have a new lady now , in San Leandro California. She is amazing ! Some of these folks out here do not want to take care of your hair. They only want the money. And her attitude was definitely from the devil.. If you feel it in your gut, please do your research. New follower great video. I look up your stylist her page does not come up on IG? Is there a link you can put on the description of her handle?

I'm so tired of watching her videos and looking at her gorgeous locs. I had the exact same question. Thank you! I'll be giving her loctician a call today. I'm done with indecision! I'm ready! Peace and blessings to you!💕
I want sisterlocs but this is just too much…🤦🏾♀️🙄

Yes...better to realize that before hand lol. So many don't and end up starting over or combining them.

I love your hair❤️ I have Sisterlocks also 498 of them, I’m currently 14 months locked. I’m pretty sure once my hair gets to your length it will look similar. I started with 2 inches , this is my 2nd set. I love them, they are already at my shoulders ❤️❤️❤️
