Bleaching my locs was the worst mistake I made at the beginning of my loc journey. I have 4c hair and had major breakage especially in the back since it’s the most fragile. I had to do major CPR to my hair after that. Never again!! I started with 3 inches of hair almost 5 years ago, and the regret is still there because even though my hair is growing healthy now past my shoulders on my upper back, the back of my hair would’ve been longer if I hadn’t bleached!! I don’t ever see myself cutting my locs. I’ve tried everything from braids, weaves, lacefronts, short cuts, etc to get it out my system before I committed. Nothing satisfies me the way locs do!! I’m in it for life!!

Genetics I will say is the number one precursor to how fast your hair grows, the thickness, grade and curliness. Love your hair and think it’s gorgeous on you! I will say, you looked amazing with your natural straight hair too.

I love you hair sis, I also started with long hair and those ends are still the same just swirly curls. My hair is also fragile which is why I had to start retightening my own locs 5 years ago, two loctitians were over tightening to where it was causing traction alopecia. I’m 8 years in now and waist length and it’s healthy since I’m maintaining myself. So happy more woman are locing, 8 years ago it was rough not as accepting and awful comments from our own people. Smh but it’s better now they can’t believe how beautiful we look 🤣

Hey Sharida! You and your locks inspired me to get mine 15 months ago and I’ve loved them from day one. My loctitions were retying my fine, fragile hair too tight. So I did my first self retie last week and I survived, it was rough😂. But I definitely learned a lot! With the help of my daughter I think I got this💪🏾😁.

I love your locs!!! I’m a year and a couple months into my micro locs. Everything you said is true about taking care of your locs. I don’t do anything to mine. My loctition just started me coming every six weeks because of my new growth. She washes my hair and everything. My hair is also curly on the ends which is strange to me. I went through breast cancer a year before locing my hair, and the texture came back different. Very curly. I got locs because I no longer knew how to take care of that texture of hair. I have people ask me why my hair is curly on the ends, and I tell them it’s just how my hair is now. I can’t wait to see how long my hair will grow. It’s currently on my shoulders. It has never been this long in my life. It is definitely a journey, but if you can fight through the ugly stage it’s so worth it.

My 6 yr sisterlock-aversary is 12/5. I started with 7in & my locs are lower waist, almost butt length. I still have some loose ends, but I like them. I color my locks from the mid-shaft down. I'm a woman of a certain age who can't let hair dye touch her scalp, so the color on the ends helps distract me from all the grays. I use the olaplex system once a month & oil my scalp as needed. I don't use gels/edge control, but I love a good foaming mousse for braid outs or rod sets. I learned how to do my own retightenings during the pandemic & I haven't looked back. Lately though, I've been thinking about cutting them off for a cute pixie. Women & our hair! 😂😂

Yap! I have micro lucks for 15 months now and the shrinkage is real😂. But I the only problem I struggled with was unraveling due me washing my hair without the proper way pre-wash protection. But now I get the hang of it you said. But girl I don’t think those end will ever lock, though they are beautiful the way they look. ❤❤

Your hair is so gorgeous, I love it so much. My husband is Guyanese, and he has way more thick, natural locks, that I will help him re-section out so he can crochet it himself. WAY less maintenance than even your hair, but I totally get what you mean about shrinkage! Took him forever to get any sort of length. I'm curious if either of my daughters (mixed) will want to lock their hair at some point. And it's so interesting that they have such different hair textures! My oldest has very tight coils, and my younger one has MUCH looser ringlets. Super cute for both of them. I love it all. When I was younger I actually wanted to be a hair dresser, and worked for one for a while. She did all sorts of textures, and even specialized in mostly silk wigs. I learned so much from her.

Your hair is beautiful! I'm 4 years with Sister Locs on 11/20! I have so much length and fullness it's not even funny. I did have a trim a couple months ago because of the varying lengths from the initial locking process. By the end of the year I'll be almost bra strap length or very close to it. I love to do pipe cleaner curls on me because it literally lasts a month and doesn't require much manipulation after. Then the rest of the time I let it hand straight. I love I have so much hair freedom, confidence and always vacation ready!

Its crazy we started around the same time I hit 4 years in April... I go back and forth on combing them out for micro locs but it seems the same regardless on the size with maintenance..... still debating because I don't want to loose my progress

I use the shampoo. It does a great job o cleaning without stripping. I am also baffled by people going months without shampooing. Shampooing regularly is necessary for many reasons. It helps the hair lock, helps the hair receive moisture, and cleanses. Thanks for sharing.

The only issue I've really had (if you can even call it an issue) is frizz. That and I've got some wily, disrespectful grays around my edges🙄 But this has definitely been the best hair decision I've made to date! Two and a half years of (mostly) hair freedom. I couldn't have imagined this feeling as a loose natural😂

I usually just do a light spray with water and tie down with scarf to kill the frizzy look, which is major close to retie time.

You will never know what results you will get. 2 people with same hair type can still have very different looking locs. I always just say stay open to the journey.

I’ll be 6 months in on 7/14!! I love my hair!! I’ve had one little mishap but hopefully it’ll be ok . Other than that- it’s been a beautiful easy breezy experience!!

Sharida, you sister locks are pretty! I'm good. My hair is super thin. Sister locks looks so fragile.

They are definitely not fragile. They are small but strong! I have no thinning, damaged or lost any locs.

They will have to be cut at some point lol. I definitely don't want to go past Classic length. Guess I will for sure have to say bye to my curly ends then.

Hey! My experience was like yours. I loved every stage. I have no problem. Started in 2020 as well. My hair was shorter though. My routine is also very simple. I do moisturise more often cause I'm in the Caribbean and it's very hot. Never done the edges. Did the Bleach and colour once. It was fun. It has grown out now though.
