Try to think about what it is you want to do as far as which vehicle. I jumped in head first and spent a ton of money, only to find I am interested in mostly off road 4x4 type vehicles. My two favorites are the 4x4 Rustler VXL and the New 4x4 Stampede. If you can identify what vehicle you want, you can limit your upgrades to what it is you want, without spending too much on a vehicle that ends up sitting on a shelf. These are the words of experience. If you can get involved with others that have RC cars, try and theirs to see what you like. I have been selling the cars I do not care as much about. I have given a few to my family members.

I bought an old beat up non working nitro Jato, and with my nephews help we configured it to a brushless rc. And we yes, we committed sacrilege, we put a hobby wing brushless motor and esc, instead of a traxxas brushless motor and esc. it runs fast and fine.

You can buy the Clone Huanqi 727 backslash for half the price. Its a straight up "Back Slash" clone, so all Slash parts fit it.

You can put the rear slash shock tower on the front of that Sluggy build, it just needs to ba flipped around and the shocks need to be pushed forward about 5mm. I did the conversion on my race SCT build. Haven’t driven it yet, but I’d does look and feel way better. The front preload does have to be pretty low so it doesn’t sit squatted though.

Everyone freaks out over price of traxxas rc cars and say traxxas tax but then will pay double msrp for a real car because it says Cadillac or its a brand new realeased model/body style and they have to have it(i work at a dealership and see it daily)if people didnt pay the price they wouldn't be sold at that price. I only honestly think Traxxas dropped the ball on this one. Between it being called the Jato 4x4 to it being very lack luster for a new release. They should have done a vxl with sway bars, a center diff, and a 3s to 4s power system. Then later come out with the bl2s for for budget friendly customers.
