Do Not Touch The Art!!

Installation in the Energy Gallery at the Science Museum London, 2004 by Christian Moeller
The Installation is part of an exhibition along the theme energy. A five meter tall stainless steel pole is standing in the center of a huge warning sign on the gallery floor telling the visitor "do not touch".
It creates a conflict by tempting the visitor to do precisely what he is warned not to do. This conflict, when resolved through disobedience results in a jolting physical experience. Whenever somebody decides to ignore the warning by touching the pole he receives a significant electric shock amplified by sound.

That's not scientific curiosity. It's just the forbidden fruit effect. If a human is expressly told _not_ to do something, they will feel a great urge to do so.

The brain sends electrical signal to other parts of the nervous system, which is why we feel pain. Also blood has a lot of salt in it, making it a good conductor for these signals. Skin is a poor conductor, but it still conducts (an electrical current can still pass through). The heart even keeps rhythm with electrical signals. Are you saying the people touching the "do not touch" pole have to be brain dead to touch it anyways?
