Join me and Justin from ‪@WheelinWithWally‬ as we take on Rausch Creek Offroad Park. This Park offers three Jeep Badge of Honor trails with trail #11, Crawler Ridge and Crawl Daddy (Crawl Daddy being my favorite). However, we may have bitten off more than we could handle as one of our Jeeps encountered major damage on this trail ride!

Wallys jeep is embarassing for the TJ fam. metal cloak , cross over steering, and all the weight is ridiculous. Metal cloak lift kits allow for larger tires, its not a kit intended for off-road performance and capability... His whole setup is working against him. BE a good friend and suggest Currie for him. For petes sake reduce its weight. Less breaking and more fun.
@TrailExpedition
@TrailExpedition 25 күн бұрын
I think he was initially building it out to be more of a compact overlanding rig, hence the added weight. He recently got a Gladiator as well so I think that will be more of the overland rig. Maybe the TJ will get a refresh?

@@TrailExpedition gladiator as overlander, TJ as a wheeler is an excellent idea... w/ TJ properly setup there isnt a better plateform. As heavy and bouncy as the TJ will definitely lead to broken parts or pulling line. I once read only a fool installs heavy steel bumpers / armor. Knowing the difference, its hard to disagree. aluminum everything, except for skid plates. Currie is worth is weight in gold. Their progressive springs are perfect. Their free length keeps them in the bucket, their coil rate helps articulation and reduces rebound effect during climbs. i recommend 3" coils on the TJ plateform. imo, currie, is the only lift that should be installed for any coil sprung jeep. Their coils and anti-rock off-road sway bars separates itself from any other lift. It really is night and day difference. ive been at it all my life. My current is a 2006 TJR, that I've had since new. Keep the wheeling content coming. Looks like yall have a fun time.

😂 calm down big fella. My TJ isn't a buggy and I'm not gutting it or chopping it up to save weight. I drive it all over the country and have completed plenty of hard trails with it. You clearly love currie which is fine but metalcloak isn't just for large tires. It's not cross over steering, and it's not that heavy. Most of the armor and add ons are aluminum to save weight. The sliders and a few skid plates are steel. The rear bumper is heavy but tough and walks off hard hits no problem. The rack holds my roof top tent when im overlanding. Its beefy but I built it to take a beating. I don't think my whole setup is working against me because it's working for exactly what I built it to do. If I had tried to build it as solely an extreme rock crawler then maybe you could say that.
@alec4699
@alec4699 25 күн бұрын
@@WheelinWithWally Never said to chop or gut to save weight, im against turning TJ's into buggies. Most TJ's turned buggies wind up on marketplace. metal cloak is entry level waste of money for every platform they offer.. I do love currie, because of results. Those that know frown upon dual rate MC coils for because of unwanted mannerism of their dual rate. MC wont even release their spring rate numbers. MC doesn't offer any form of offroad sway bars except disconnects. QD's are just plain bad. I can explain that if you want. Your steering isn't factory Y lync, there's absolutely no reason to veer away from the factory Y lync steering unless a complete axle assembly upgrade, say D30 to D60. Sliders/skids need to be steel, aluminum grabs, doesn't slide which is why it isn't recommended for those to be aluminum. bumpers/body armor should be aluminum, IDEALLY. Your setup is most definitely working against you, i can tell with every obstacle it encounters w/ what you're trying to do. Its top heavy, its bouncy, rear articulation is hindered from stock rear sway bar so your rear axle is in constant combat with front sway loc. sway locs should be outlawed. You breaking and pulling line is a direct result of your setup. There's a ton of weight w/ the rear of your TJ.. You can either have a wheeler or an overlander. You can not have both. The TJ doesn't have to be a full on buggy to perform well and will even out perform other platforms if properly setup within its limitations of the factory wheelbase. I don't imagine you break often, I'm not suggesting you do, I'm saying your setup is the reason you did. AND Capability is most certainly hindered by your setup. That's fine if it suffices you, but it could be so much better. You "cursing" the TJ, when it isn't the TJ's fault, but a direct result of your setup. Just educating the masses. I'm never calm.

@@alec4699 @alec4699 I'll be honest with you it's to late for me to reply to all of that. But some quick thoughts are: you obviously hate metalcloak even though tons of people run them successfully and they have a large following for both quality products and good customer service. I have metalcloak springs, which im open to trying other springs as that's all I've run so far, I have metalcloak fenders front and rear and and metalcloak rock sliders. All of the body armor is aluminum, fenders are aluminum. The sliders and fender flares are steel. My skids are all steel except for my gas tank skid plate. The only real added weight is the bumper and the rack. The rack is maybe just over 100lbs. Even with the tent on it I've done multiple badge of honor trails including holy cross, Steel Bender, Metal Masher, elephant hill and poison spider. While it did add some weight it's hardly aggressively top heavy especially with the tent off. I've used my winch a total of 3 times I think and in this video I still could have backed off of it and went around like scott did. I'm not a steering expert but my steering is stinkyfabs 1 ton aluminum steering. It's much beefier than I need but I bought it early on before my first trip to Moab. It's not factory but I would still say it is Y link. I do in fact have a factory rear sway bar but as I drive it everywhere I don't think I'd enjoy the added body roll swapping it out to an antirock. Both scott and I have swaylocs so maybe you could elaborate on why you think they should be outlawed or why you hyperfixated on calling my jeep an embarrassment when it does pretty damn good and has racked up some decent trail badges in a short time. Again I agree my rear bumper is heavy. But I love that bumper so I suffer through it for the extra benefits it brings along with the look I enjoy. Other than that though as I've mentioned the rack isn't very heavy and most of what we both agree on that should be aluminum is. If I popped the rack off I'm maybe save 100lbs. If I swapped out the bumper maybe at best another 150-200lbs. For the small weight savings I'm not willing to give up the benefits they bring me. So I'm not sure where else you want me to save weight. As for having a Wheeler or an overlander only and not both I disagree. If you want to be an extremist then sure you can only have a really comfy overlander or a really great offroader. Or if you are happy with a few concessions on both sides you can have both. Which is how I built this. Obviously it could be built better and be lighter to perform one specific goal. But it's built to perform multiple roles like I said. You are only trying to judge it through a tiny lens. If I didn't want to drive it and I didn't want to camp out of it and towed it to trails you are right it could be one hell of an off roading machine. As is though I've still outwheeled a lot of rigs. Even on this trip as is normally the case with short and long wheel bases scott struggled in some places I didn't and I struggled in places he didn't. Now I thought this part was pretty obvious but cursing the TJ was in jest. Who dumps this kind of money into a rig they hate? All in all calling it an embarrassment is a hell of a stretch. Hope you are able to calm down eventually. That's not healthy. Maybe we can all hit a trail someday and you can share some knowledge instead of whatever that first comment was.
