Pyro actually research stuff for his video, Power Pak says in the video that GZDoom doesn't remove limitations from Doom, if he took the time to do a 5 seconds Google search he would discover that yes it does, is the whole appeal of the fucking sourceport. On the other hand Pyro mentions and explains in various moments how the mod is working and even recommend DavidXNewton that made very good videos going into a obscene amount of depth about how the mod works (also he is responsible for organizing the biggest community mapping project of the year Ramp 2023), just goes to show how Pyro at least care enough to research what he is talking about instead of just playing the thing and reading forums like Power Pak did. Power Pak video is pure lazy retrospective garbage that is flooding KZbin right now and people are praising just because the run time is long. Pyro did a way better job and there's nothing worth to return to Power Pak video.

They say the actual fear in the horror genre comes from the anticipation of something dreadful happening instead of the actual scare, and boy did the wall Shrek and the staircase accomplish that perfectly.
@tarunvesireddy9360 Жыл бұрын
some games technically arent classified as horror, because there is no scary monsters or any real jumpscares, but instead, do the horror using atmosphere and ambient noises. A great example of this is G-string, specifically G-string:Beta, because it builds such a horror esque atmosphere using heavy film grain (to give a washed out, dilapidated, radiated look) while still making us remember that this is what most of America is now, but instead of total collapse, plenty of people live in the urban hellscape of a city that G-string:Beta presents us with, just that they are barricaded inside their homes so that they don't have to deal with the brutal government and cops and radiation. Also it takes inspiration from brutalist architecture, and mangas like Blam!, which also make great use of brutalist architecture. It too, utilise z "dread over fear" like pyro said in this vid.

I see it quite the opposite way. The guy worked his ass off to make a cryptic game, people were creating cool theories and trying to figure the game out with their own interpretation. Only for her to outright say "it's actually about us and our house :)" for a miniscule amount of tiktok clout. In my opinion it takes away from the project. Same reason why creators such as David Lynch often don't want to explain their stuff or magicians their tricks.

Imagine breaking up with someone, only for them to recreate your house and details of your relationship in a mod, and release it to the public. From the first post Pyro showed it seems she had shown the house on tiktok with no connection to the mod and people didn't believe she lived there because of the mod. The mod forced itself into her life, not the other way around. Now I don't blame the guy. Maybe he just thought people wouldn't make the connection, or maybe they talked about it beforehand.

Nothing could have prepared me for the theory that the MyHouse pk3 map was Steve's personal trauma loop, or at least that's what I thought before I realised *nothing* could have prepared me for the conclusion of the video. "Happiness has to be fought for" is such a profound message in itself. The idea that a house is only a home with people in it, the fact that life is a series of blank slates filled with memories and the fact that choosing how to deal with your issues is the most important part of moving on, is something so relatable. The idea that, at the end of the day, it's either fight for your happiness or keep reliving your trauma. It's not just trauma from a single event either, life isn't that simple, every problem in your life compounds and builds until sometimes it feels like it's too much. There are so many opportunities where you could pull yourself away from the path of true happiness, even after living a full life - like with the ending where the house is sold and the one where it's sold after collecting all of the items - but if Steven let his problems conquer him - retreating, in an attempt to wipe the slate clean (like with the sold house endings) - he might as well have died when his friend "did", as shown on the tombstone with the QR code. Personally, I think this is the most important messages you could get out of this ARG. Even if his friend wouldn't actually have died, and it was some other big traumatic even (or series of small ones), choosing to wipe the slate clean would be an incomplete way of dealing with it. There is no "final chapter" in your life, like with the "fake beach" ending, which I believe symbolises the desire for all your troubles to end / to feed into the trauma by running away from everything instead of dealing with it. If he had chosen to "wipe the slate clean" or made an attempt to conclude that phase of his life as something separate / that he can just get rid of by running away instead of fighting for his happiness *despite* all the things that went wrong in his life - his stillborn baby being the worst, assuming that was his (as part of the arg hopefully and not a real mishap), then he might as well have died when it all became too much. For example, if the final straw that made him completely broke down was Thomas' death, like was implied in game by the his own Obituary on the Gravestone in one of the Sold House endings. You can take comfort in others, like he may have done with Amy, but even the good moments can end totally separately to the other bad things in your life. His separation (despite being on good terms) is probably one of the things he's struggling with as he's shown by a few of the artifacts' messages and locations. Like with the wedding ring being incredibly hard to reach and the baby bottle saying "it wasn't meant to be", you could even tie an Airport miscarriage theory into this (which would be a pretty messed up reason to have that part of the map... I still wonder what that shirt could have been). All of these problems piling up on each other may make you want to break down or spiral infinitely out of control. Something that once made you feel safe or secure could one day be the same thing that makes you cry down the road. It may make you want to deny that these things have happened, like your life is a movie with chapters that can just be concluded. But you won't find happiness if you just try to mimic what you want happiness to look like. You'll just live the rest of your life with an emptiness inside, eating away at you until all that's left is the wish that things could have been different (like they are in your dreams). Which is why the fake beach ending is in the mirror world, it's imaginary happiness. The winking Steve in the mirror and the winking Steve standing at the beach feeling fulfilled felt like a completely unattainable reality, which is why he dreamt of these dream/mirror Steve's and himself as different people. But, there's nothing separating you and the you you see in your dreams besides the actions that you take and the ones the you in your dreams had taken to reach that point (you don't see these, you just see the results)... The "you" you could be, who could be living your best life and the you who you are right now are only separated by the fact that you could either wish for / imagine that happiness or you could be doing everything you can to try attain it. Maybe what Steve needed at first was to work on the MyHouse pk3, getting all his thoughts out there, but eventually it became something unrecognisable to just being his friends' house and something that was once therapeutic began to eat away at him. The map grew along side his changing dreams, then he started implementing these dreams, then it got to the point where they were a world apart from what he originally planned. He wanted to make a tribute to his friend but ended up making a tribute to his mistakes, tainting his memories until finally realising that the ending all this horror needed was to let the map end with one last *big fight*, finally concluding on the same beach that he saw himself standing on. Letting the player, who is actually Steve, fight for their happiness and finally escape that place (with his doggie). I don't know Steve personally but he made a very good ARG with a very good message.

This mod is incredible in it’s story telling. Even keeping “in canon” so to speak and “in story”, ignoring the direct parallels to the creator’s real life, the story is still deeply powerful and moving. A man consumed by grief and sadness for the loss of his friend, becoming trapped in the memories and emotions of it. He tries to deny it ever happened and forget it by crossing out dreams of the fire (which presumably killed his childhood friend) and literally having an un-killable fire demon block him from his happiness, directly linking to his friend’s death, but in many endings before you discover the true ending, the house just vanishes or burns down. He can’t avoid the memories or change the past, it’s a harsh snap to reality. He needs to accept the past and move forward to find true peace and happiness after the grief. It’s only by reliving the painful memories through objects from their past and processing everything that he can fight for and ultimately find happiness from the grief from losing his friend. Replace childhood friend with ex-wife/love and it still fits hauntingly well.
@h0td0gwater Жыл бұрын
The funny thing about memories when in trauma-brain is that they actually do all loop around, criss cross on top of each other and become muddled like this. A memory of a specific moment can become tainted with little details from before and after that paint a larger picture than the moment is able to, compounding the trauma vibes. Sorry for th eineloquence lol - I just love how perfectly women the mental turmoil is into the gameplay experience, as you said.

Clicked on this out of curiosity and ended up watching the entire video to completion. Very well made and the voice over work for the notes is a nice touch. I like the raw opinions and emotions, as well as the present speech used to avoid making it feel like a review, this felt like walking through the story with you. I also liked the twitch clips shared to show the honest reaction and emotions. Would also say I loved when the mention of nothing came up, as if to say the dullness or quiet is so loud that it itself creates dread. Very good video. Surprised a dude I used to watch play subnautica while talking about keemstar evolved to make this cool content.

Y'know, it almost gives the same feeling that The Beginner's Guide gives, especially with the relationship between Steve and Tom mirroring that of Davey and Coda. It's masterfully created in that people can craft their own theories based on their own life experiences. And also really nice to see the absolute detail he laid down by intermingling the story about his "friend" as well as his true life with his ex-wife. Definitely one of the best mods ever made of anything.

Pyro did an amazing job in finding, exploring, and analyzing all the secrets in this map. That ending revelation is crazy. Connor's voice acting is so crazy I didn't recognize him at all. When I play these games, in a way part of me doesn't want to believe that the reality of this game is this personal until I know for sure. The other theories are easier to entertain, but this one is like breaching in someone's privacy, but worse, knowing that this person who made the piece of work you are consuming has gone through hell, and what you had just experienced didn't come from fiction. It was all real. It was so bad you are inclined to believe it's fiction, but it really wasn't. It's the same feeling you would get if you found out that Cry of Fear was an exploration into the mind of the developer.

How time flies. Can’t believe he went from 45 and living in his moms basement to 14 and living in a real bedroom.❤ So proud!

Unironically one of the better videos you posted. Not to shit on your prvious video but this one for some reason has a lot better and climactic ending, no theories, no unconfirmed conspiracies, a lot of the stuff I didnt know about even after eatching the essay about the map 3 months ago. Genuinely a lot of work has been put out for it and the animations with the voice actor are just the chefs kiss. You did good Pyro, you fought for it.

This is one of the best videos I've watched on KZbin in a long, long time. You've really outdone yourself, showing off the genius of MyHouse needed something of similar quality, and you delivered. Amazingly well done.

First time ever I watched Pyro's video from start to finish The creator of this game is truly a genius Not really a horror mod but more like an uneasy feeling mod filled with his personal experiences Idk if he actually suffered from making this mod, but the end result turned out really great Shout out to the editors, animators, and voice actor for this video too. Really great job here

The main thing with the mod is that it's like *laser focused* on making people who are familliar with Doom as uncomfortable as possible while playing, it's kind of an artform. Even something as simple as having a downstairs is something that simply can't exist in Doom, but then you get the polyobject doors, the smooth weapon animations, the music slowly collapsing in on itself, it's incredible. I also don't know if it's brought up yet, but myhouse makes the character ever so slightly taller than usual, which isn't noticable until you reach underhalls.

He makes quality slop but my tik tok brain can't sit down for 9 hours straight. This was captivating beyond what was considered as possibility.

Pyro isn't pregnant but he never fails to deliver.
