DO NOT WATCH IF CLAUSTROPHOBIC Cleaning a Grease Trap

I was just about to crack an ice cold frothy when i had a phone call from a great client of mine. His grease trap had just been pumped out and i needed to attend to jump inside and make repairs before the grease trap filled up with rotten sludgy grease again.
The blocked drain connecting to this filthy grease trap was blocked and it was full of grease and kitchen waste. I sent the water jet down the blocked drain to clear. Drain unblocking is always best cleared with a water jetter. In this video I'll show you some grease trap cleaning.
Drain cleaning a grease trap doesn't make you filthy rich, it does make you filthy though! I had to strip off from my dirty clothes in the car park and bin my clothes after!

Claustrophobia definition - Claustrophobia could be related to dysfunction of the amygdala, which is the part of the brain that controls how we process fear. The phobia can also be caused by a traumatic event, such as: being stuck in a tight or crowded space for an extended period of time.
Claustrophobia Symptoms
Shortness of breath.
Fast heartbeat.
Sweating.
Shaking or trembling.
Nausea.
Dizziness.
Dry mouth.
Hot flashes.
Claustrophobia is classified as a mental and behavioural disorder, specifically an anxiety disorder. Symptoms generally develop during childhood or adolescence. Claustrophobia is typically thought to have one key symptom: fear of suffocation.
Claustrophobia cannot cause death. However, patients with this condition may be prone to asking this question. Claustrophobia can trigger symptoms similar to those found in panic attacks, including overwhelming anxiety, tachycardia and shortness of breath.

Worst was in the area where they comb out the solids, toilet paper, the wipes people should not flush etc. you plug your nose but you know that you gonna inhale that crap lol. I don't think it made me gag but..i think rancid fat or rotten meat might make me gag, but excrements haven't managed it ... yet.

Only thing I was worried about was you were climbing into a confined space, normally we need a toxic gas detection buzzer/kit on us and a spotter over in burgerland for that. Otherwise job well done! I've found that baraklean will take that gunk right out if you can get ahold of a jug so long as you throw the coveralls/clothes in a greaser washer. Next best thing is adding some simple green to the wash as a "detergent" or soaking them in simple green-water for about a day before sending through the wash like normal.

I did notice that. Strange that other countries are supposed to be more safety-minded than us and yet being allowed to go into a confined space alone is pretty crazy to me. I think he doesn’t necessarily need to worry about gas because maybe it’s not a sewer and just a grease trap?

We loved the video and the running commentary. The longer video like this is really neat, and going above and beyond is a great way to work. About 25 years ago I could have crawled in there but not now. Also for your clothes, a good soak in degreaser and hot water really helps to get the grease out. Of course so does making your clothes water/stain proof help with the laundry.

Hi. Bruce. Just watched you go down into a grease trap mate. I've worked in subways during my time and it's so easy to get caught out, I sure you already know but thought I mention it. Gasses and there a loads of them especially in sewers can build up removing Oxygen . You will pass out and be dead before anyone realises. Get yourself an Oxygen monitor and put in in the hole before you go in, it's only got to save your life once. Have a good day

Yeah I liked seeing something technical in your work,,, I would keep about 5 pair of those paper coveralls that after use you throw away when doing a job like that. It's 100% that you took care of your customer even tho it was penciled in for a later day,,, I remember what dropping weekend plans when work calls was about.
