the disappointing part is, if there is a competition in costume, someone who wears the stereotypical stuff will win, and you who dressed historically accurate, will be dubbed as "lazy" and "unprepared". i've only heard stories like these. some had even wore their grandmother's/great grandmother's dress and they have been called "unprepared". that's sad.

@@itschrissspy The tricorn was not only for show off. It was a general fashion item and a pretty normal hat. Kind of the 18th century equivalent to the baseball cap. With the military it depends, but with military officers the tricorn is actually less common that the Bicorn.

Even though I am from America, I personally prefer the term dinner suit. Sounds much more elegant and makes more sense to me
@themoderndandy7132 жыл бұрын
UK terms almost always make more sense than American terms. Which makes more sense: "waistcoat", "suit coat", and "overcoat", or "vest", "suit jacket", and "overcoat"? I suppose "suspenders" makes a bit more sense, but that's about it. Don't even get me started on "football" and "soccer"...
@Mr-R.R.2 жыл бұрын
A tuxedo and a dinner jacket are different. Tux follows a very specific guidelines whereas a dinner jacket/suit are worn with odd trousers
@themoderndandy7132 жыл бұрын
@@Mr-R.R. This is partially correct. In the US, the term "tuxedo" applies to the full suit, whereas "dinner jacket" applies to the off white jacket. In the UK, the terms "dinner jacket" and "dinner suit" are synonymously used to describe the full suit (with the exception of the off white dinner jacket being refered to as such). As a side note, in Continental Europe, the dinner suit is refered to as a "smoking". The Black Tie Guide covers these terms comprehensively.

Speaking of braces/suspenders: A tutorial on how to sew on suspender buttons without penetrating the visible side of the waistband would be most helpful! Great video!
@emjenkins4644 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is loose thread looping (sew it loosely them pull it tight loop by loop to avoid knotting) and using a two whole button or doing one diagonal on a four whole button then the other. Also use a fine needle as it's easier to tell how many layers of fabric you're catching with each stitch.

most slacks/trousers have more than one layer on the waistband. i suggest using a sewing needle to go through just the top one or two inner layers of material with a sturdy thread. i have sewn buttons on almost all my slacks and it works perfectly! just make sure you space the buttons evenly and make sure they are symmetrical with the other side. hope that helps

It was very good in tems of costume design actually, it just wasn´t historically accurate. I want to take German language lessons. My great-great-grandfather born in 1827 in America had an accent, from his upbringing I suppose. His military records indicate this fact. My grandmother, born in 1900 often told me, "she was a flapper." She maybe was, in addition to being the lifelong breadwinner. How she had time to be a flapper is a mystery!
