Short answer is very likely yes. In a few recent randomized controlled trials those on vegan diets reaching this 1.6g/kg protein amount per day saw the same muscle growth and strength gain as omnivores. Going above 1.6g/kg is fine to do but there are likely to be diminishing returns the higher we get. The international society of sports nutrition has a general protein recommendation range of 1.4-2.0g/kg of protein per day for athletes and active people.
