Do Ragdoll cats shed? | Ragdolls Pixie and Bluebell

Hello everypawdy! 🐾
Do Ragdolls shed? How often do you need to brush you cat? How much dooes a Ragdoll shed? Ragdolls don't shed!? How often do you need to hoover when you have a longhaired cat? We could keep going furever!
Hopefully, this video is going to give you a good idea of how much our two Ragdolls shed in Spring. And yes, it is important to stress that we are in the SHEDDING SEASON now, so it doesn't look like this all year round. We might do a similar video to compare how much cat hair we find around in a few months, when they are fully transitioned into their Summer coat :)

Omg, this is my life... I have two ragdolls and it's summer here in the US, and... they shed like dying Christmas trees, BUT they are too cute so in order to deal / manage this, I vacuum obsessively.

One cat is even enough to have hairs all over the place. We're actually thinking about buying such a vacuum cleaner! Cordless must jsut be so much easier to use it frequently! Also, in case you didn't know it exists, there are some washable lint rollers that work good as well. Like unlimited sheets, just a sticky surface to catch them all! Some fabric brushes also exist to catch hairs when brushing in one side, and release them going the other way.

Oh thank you! the washable lint rollers sound great, will definitely look into that! And yes, cordless vacuum is such a convenience, we used to keep our large, old vacuum in the cupboard on the balcony and just getting it out was a hustle, so having our Dyson mounted to the wall is just so easy, it also really is a great machine :)

I own a beautiful ragdoll and he does shed a lot. So before owning one do your research 🧐but we wouldn’t change him for the world! Be in mind I’m someone with an OCD so I hoovered my house every single day no lie I do it five times a day so if I can keep her animal like this, I think anyone can. ❤

Thank you so much for "shedding" light on this Ragdoll issue!! I have the Catit long hair brush set too. I also follow The House That Made Me and they recommended The Furminator deshedding tool. I've got the one for long hair large cats and ohmygoodness it's a game changer!! Doesn't eradicate everything but wow it's the best brush I've used yet. You should absolutely check it out. By the way I've not been paid to say this I just wanted to share the recommendation from one Ragdoll lover to the other 💕

Haha thank you! 💕 our breeder advised against using Furminator, unless there are mats that are otherwise impossible to get out, we also heard from other cat owners that sometimes Ragdoll's fur didn't fully grow back after using it, so I would probably advise to be gentle with that one ❤

Of course, it's the same with my 2 Ragdolls! 🤯 Before them I had 2 Birman cats who shed a lot. Hair everywhere! What I do is, I roll the brushed out hair between my palms until I get a felted ball. When it's big enough, the cats have another toy to play with. And it even doesn't cost anything!😉 I love your cats and your videos a lot.💝 Keep going, thank you! Best wishes from Switzerland 🙋🏼💕

birman cats shed alot ? I have been doing a lot of research into cats since Im wanting to get one and everywhere I search it says birman cats dont have an undercoat and thats why they don’t really shed a lot Ofc cats shed but with my schedule I dont think I can clean up a lot of fur but at the same time I need to keep everything clean since my father is allergic. But I also want a cat that doesn’t shed much Edit:(any insight would be helpful)

It is definitely shedding season here too. Charlie (Ragdoll) and Alex (British shorthair) is both shedding like crazy so I need to vacuum everyday. I brush them both everyday too, at least now in the shedding season. Alex is actually shedding a lot more than Charlie, he is losing his undercoat and he gets these dots of fur sticking out all over so we can see when he needs some brushing, he sometimes needs to be brushed more than once a day. My problem is that Charlie is white so I can't wear black, but Alex is black and brown so I can't wear white either LOL. Still I could never imagine my life without those two furballs, they are sooo cute and cuddly, just like Pixie and Bluebell seems to be too :)

Ahh they are worth every single hair on your clothing! 🤍 I didn't consider that it's actually so much easier with one colour of cat hair! At home, we try to wear light coloured clothing and pretend it's not there 😂

Hi, its shedding season in sweden as well, our 8 year old ragdoll Doris started shedding about 2 weeks ago. We only had her since november so we dont really know what her summer fur will be like. She also have OSD (obsessive sofa disorder) so now i brush the sofa twice a day with a natural hair brush, that helps a lot. The sofa is her favourite place in the world.

I just finished brushing Bianka, my 8 month old ragdoll. Fur all over the place. I'm a birman owner too and in comparison, ragdolls shed three times as much. :D So much for "they don't shed as much because they're a single layer breed. " :D But again, worth every minute. I wouldn't change a thing. Love my cats.

How much do birman cats shed Like if that kitty sat on you would it leave u covered in fur? I want to get a cat but I need to get one that doesn’t shed much I have been doing a lot of research into cats and I read people claiming that birman cats don’t shed much as they don’t have an undercoat But I really need a kitty whose shedding can be mainly managed with brushing since someone in my family is allergic not a lot but yes I don’t wanna risk it and don’t want a lot of fur around the house I love the birman cats I just don’t know if they are suitable for me.. edit(any insight would be extremely helpful)

Hello from Zurich, Switzerland, French-Americans here :) We just lost our Turkish angora to a "painful" vehicle accident 3 weeks :-( BUT, I am sure my girls and us are eyeing on 2 ragdolls in Autumn- Winter because of the similarities in treats I see with Turks & Raggies, except for the longer fur but same texture x 5 time more LOL... You are comforting me "how much" I have to do daily as a Ragdoll mother haha...I love your cats' patterns/colors :-) After brushing them DAILY, do they still cough out any fur balls??

I have no idea who decided to list in the bred descriptions that Ragdolls shed less than other longhaired cats, but my two obviously didn’t read their bred description. I’ve had Persians and Himalayans before, and by far my Ragdolls shed the most of any cat that’s ever lived with us. Great personalities, but my house and clothes have been completely covered in cat fur for the past 15 years despite investing in special vacuums & many contraptions to catch cat hair in the washer & dryer.

We have a oriental shorthair and a ragdoll and I'm so glad we have a robot vacuum cleaner that can do the downstrairs area. And we also have the dyson v11 (the nummer😂) that we use for the upstairs rooms and the couch. ⚽️🏐⚽️🏐

@@PixieandBluebell Nona (the OSH) is a real drama queen, she can give you 'the look' that says "you will do as I say servant " and very, very, very, very, very, very chatty. She can talk for hours😅 and if she wants attention... it starts with a quiet meow and gets louder when you don't say anything back. Zoe the Ragdoll is the quiet one, but she's learning how she can be the drama princess in her way. If she doesn't get something her way, she just drops herself on the floor and looks at you as if her whole world is falling apart, or she will give you the Puss in Boots face 🐱 including fluffy tail effect🤣 If she wants attention, she just gets in your face, figurative sense😂 So with this in mind, these 2 very different personalities can sometimes cause drama overload. But Zoe knows, Nona is the queen in this house and is okay with that.

It was similar for us, we brought them home in March two years ago and didn’t see any shedding until Autumn, it was not that bad though. The first “real” shedding was probably last Spring, when they were just over a year - 1.5 years old 🥰

Hey! We don't have any experience with these, someone we know uses it, but they did end up getting a cordless vacuum after a while anyway, so I guess it may not replace it completely!

Yes mine are 11 months old and they have only just started shedding a lot for the first time. Never been an issue before but they are definitely changing their coat for the summer and there is fluff everywhere
