I'm firmly convinced that Aussie music of the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's was the best in the world, and we had it all to ourselves😁And I'm sure our 80'a were somehow far more awesome than everyone elses. Still, it's great fun seeing the world finally discovering our incredibly talented artists.

Big call. I think Aussie music definitely carved a great niche but saying it was the best music across multiple decades is a bit of a stretch... I mean Beatles, Stones, Led Zep, The Who, Hendrix, CCR, etc, etc. They definitely more than hold their own against Aussie musicians.

Saw Deborah a few years later in a small room in a pub in Richmond, just her & Willy Ziegler in the early years of her solo career. One of those rare voices that it can actually make you quite emotional hearing in the same space, real power without effort. There's something about being up close to great female singers, the natural talent, I find it quite moving. Katie Noonan, Sarah Blasko, Megan Washington, Missy Higgins, Suze DiMarchi, Wendy Stapleton and the little known but utterly amazing Sherine Abeyrtane from Big Pig. Of course Chrissie Amphlett, of course the Bull sisters, of course Renee Geyer and the incredible, sublime and other worldly talent of Wendy Matthews. Think I'm glad I wasn't an ancient mariner. I know I am a year late, but here with a *Fun Fact* (or two): Man Overboard official music video was shot in Sydney with all the footage of men drinking in the pub was on ANZAC Day 1985. Many of the younger blokes were Diggers and NCO's of Alpha Company, 17th Bn, The Royal New South Wales Regiment and some of the older men were Veterans of Vietnam and a couple of the older WWII Diggers were from the 2/17th Bn (2nd AIF). Deborah also starred on screen and in one of my favourite Aussie movies of all time, "Running On Empty" (released in America as Fast Lane Fever)... other stars of note included Max Cullen who is not only a great actor, but writer as well. He wrote the screenplay for "The Man From Snowy River" as it happens. Debbie Conway is a *Goddess* both in voice and looks and Do Re Mi are one of those bands that every Aussie who appreciates music will recognise as soon as the 1st chord is played. Gen-X often claims these great bands, but let's be fair here, a big shout out to the *Boomers* who gave us "S3x, Drvgs and Rock 'n Roll" and great performances and fantastic music!

I never saw Do Re Mi perform but I saw Deb Conway at a small local bar and she was just as good at commanding a small, intimate space as a great big one. Absolute, effortless self-confidence and that acid-tongued attitude that you can see coming across in the lyrics here. My favourite line of hers is probably "In a jar with insincere I-love-yous/Next door's camellias" but "Turn around, be polite/I'm so sick of listening to your crap about the breasts you like" sticks in the memory as well. And "Will You Miss Me When You're Sober?" from String of Pearls is a wonderful juxtaposition of biting words with soft and lovely music. (She's a pretty good improv lyricist too, she got huge laughs at one gig when she forgot the second verse of one of her songs and just freestyled about not remembering the song until she got back to the chorus.) Vika and Linda had a new album out last year and if you're up for another double-track video their songs (and videos) "Raise Your Hand" and "Heart Is In The Wrong Place" complement each other beautifully.

This is one I've been seriously hanging out for. You've covered a lot of magnificent female Australian singers, but any tour would be incomplete without the amazingly powerful voice of Deborah Conway. She has such control over it, and uses it to perfection. I would be remiss if I didn't give full props to her bandmates, Helen Carter on bass, Dorland Bray on drums and Stephen Philip on guitar. Looking forward to watching both of wigs getting blown right to the back of the room. If you're looking for a follow-up, I recommend 'Warnings Moving Clockwise', 'Take Me Anywhere' and 'Theme from Jungle Jim' from Do Re Mi, or 'String of Pearls' (a particular favourite of mine), or 'Under My Skin' from her solo albums, or one of her collaborations with the Bull Sisters from 'Bitch Epic' (I'm especially fond of 'Madame Butterfly is in Trouble').

But what I didn't know at the time was Tracy Mann the lead actress wasn't signing and it was actually Debra's voice on all the songs. So I lived through this period from the 70s,80s Aussie bands in Pubs. I even roadied for a small country rock band. You had to bring your Act or the crowds would turn and a quick F Off or Wankers would be heard. And yes hanging out with most of the Bands was easy as Australia had a curfew of sorts where Pubs would shut around 10 and Footy or RSL clubs might stay open longer. But to meet the bands was where I as a Sailor would drink on a regular basis....Kings Cross and St Kilda (open all Hours). Thats where they went to unwind after a gig and we would usually swap jokes, drinking stories etc Derek and Clive were popular back then.

Great bass. The Whitlams and My Friend the Chocolate Cake are two other great bands
