An epic song. Debra Conway has got a fantastic voice. Everything about this song is awesome, the guitar riff, the bongos and that bass line. Friggin awesome 👌 This is a piece of lyrical brilliance.

Putting all this bitter sentiment to music that's rythmic is quite the achievement too.

I think 'next door's camelias' describes a guy trying to make an impression by bothering to buy her flowers, when in reality he just grabbed them from a yard on the way to see her. It fits perfectly with the general commentary of the song.

That's what I thought about that line too. Hence why I said "Didn't even buy them himself" lol. That part cracked me up cause it's such a more common thing than people think. Humans are wild.

OMG this song says it all, it’s so god damn relatable 💥. Your breakdowns are just so real, love that you do this for every song. This one is going on my rotation, thanks to Susie for requesting it. 🖤💜

Do Re Mi were a great band, if short lived. The lead singer, Deborah Conway has had a successful solo career since. Easily their best song though.

I also love the lyrics and music from Do Re Mi's song Adultery, think I might go and listen to that right now 🥰 "In a playground, you and me, we can not grow up, but we can commit adultery".

Mate, what a song to dive into lyrically! It's honest, direct and intelligent. Anything but subtle, there's no doubting she means it. One of my favorite lines, 'I've watched the wallpaper peeling, from slamming doors.....' I've been in a situation like that... Another great one VK, cheers Wes.

The power of this is really awesome imo. Deborah Conway is a classic, big thanks to whoever requested this. The 80s were strangely androgynous in a way, the boys looked a bit like girls and vice versa, looking back it was a reflection of new attitudes. I used to watch songs and wonder all week. Not that it matters 😂😂😂

Yeah that social rebellion was quite beautiful here in the States. Huge hair, leather jackets, tight jeans, band tees, and bandanas lol. It's a wonder I turned out how I did with a Dad that cool 😉

First song with lyrics like 'pubic hair'. Quite controversial when it was released. I'm sure it was nothing to do with attacking abusive males in relationships. Been a fav of mine sine it was released.

This was not just about the lyrics or the words, the film clip also communicates that which was not being dealt with and could not be spoken, so it was sung. This is the moment in Australia's History, particularly in Sydney, that we went enough is enough. We were finding our voice, because we were made to live in silence, so the musos were our voice. We were expected to change things. The male were treating the female like garbage at the time, we are talking generations. It wasn't just personal relationships, it was how they were behaving, they loved their addictions more. The males together, generations drinking together but the female left alone without friends and no one to talk to, not able to deal with domestic violence and abuse, and the general way society treated women. Having to stand up to your mother because you don't like the way your father treats your mother. That was what was happening at the time, there were places the females could not be, and the men gathered together, after all you look after your mates and you treat the women like crap. We were falling apart before everyone's eyes, this was also the moment before the worst murder and cruel inhumane treatment, that men could ever do to a female. Sydney can never forget. That generation learnt to be friends with each other, but also we know that our love and our life was trashed. This generation can not be with each other for too long and have meaningful relationships. The singer also processing sexuality issues. This was also veiling a cry for help, and alarm, that the world still doesn't get or can deal with. So the Australian women dealt with what the men could not and would not face. We had courage despite the fear and anger.

Debra Conway had a strong, expressive voice and looks to boot (as a model). She did much music work with her husband Willy Zygier. Another popular song from her is, 'It's Only The Beginning'.

I haven't heard this in a minute. Deborah Conway is the lead singer. She sang a duet with Jimmy Barnes on his Flesh and Wood album called Let It Go that your Grandma might like. 🌸 This also ties in with your Divinyls reaction previously as she was one of the artists in the Breast cancer awareness advertisement singing Chrissie's song, I touch myself.
