What to do if you breakdown on the motorway:
ALWAYS REMEMBER #Go_Left Check it out below! Here are the top tips to staying safe and what you need to do ...
1. Put your LEFT indicator on
2. Move into the LEFT lane
3. Exit LEFT at the next junction/services, or
4. Exit LEFT into an emergency area or hard shoulder
5. Put your hazard lights on EVEN IN THE DAYLIGHT
6. Get behind a safety barrier where there is one; keep well away from moving traffic
7. Call Highways England on 0300 123 5000; then your breakdown provider for help
REALLY IMPORTANT! Deaf people can TEXT Highways England on 0738 028 3600 for help. If it’s an emergency, text 999. You need to register for the 999 text service before you travel.

7:08 I agree, have you seen a car accident of deaf people anywhere? Well maybe there are, but they are rare. Most of the car accidents are from hearing people! We can drive because we have EYES!

I was very fortunate to have an experienced driving teacher who was from the UK herself who taught me how to drive. Much like America, learning to drive here in NZ is completely up to the learner and driving teachers aren't compulsory, so people often learn from older siblings or family members. My parents and I decided that a driving teacher would be best as they were terrified of teaching me! Having an experienced driving teacher was great as she had taught a huge variety of people, including amputees, repeat driving offenders, and epileptics to give some example of the variety. I felt really comfortable with her as we worked together for about 2 years to get me up to scratch to pass my restricted test. I'm hard of hearing and oral so I communicate verbally, but she was great as she always said what she wanted me to do before I did whatever action I was going to do. We did discuss what the best way to communicate would be and what I would need to do or adapt in situations where I might have to do things differently from most people. Was always really funny when I thought about it as she did ask me if I could hear x or x thing and my answer was always "probably no" as I can't really hear what's happening outside the car but there are a lot of visual or tactile cues that some people don't even realise are there. I personally feel like driving is one of the few everyday things where hearing doesn't really matter if you're paying attention and know what to do. The only other driving instructor I had was terrible and had his face glued to the road code book several times in the entire lesson!

I am Hearing, I have been signing in the USA since 1996. This is one of my favorite questions. "How do Deaf People Drive?" I reply, "They don't, they teleport." After my wife and I got married, (She's Deaf) People ask me, "How do Deaf People have sex?" I reply "Sloppy and loud, just ask my wife."

I used to teach new drivers how to be bus drivers. I was thinking about becoming a driving instructor and because I’ve finished my level 4 sign language, I’d be able to teach deaf students. I think I’ll look into it.

I'm deaf and also blind in one eye and I found out that my center of vision is slanted to one side vs. other people, so when I went to take my driving test I kept going half way over the center road line and the instructor had to keep pulling the wheel back to the center of the correct lane and I couldn't understand most of the directions so I messed up a ton. So I wasn't able to get my license at all and they said due to my vision being shifted to one side that's it's unsafe for me to drive a car so I am unable to get my license and I will never be able to drive no matter how much I wish I could. I really hope the invent driverless cars some day, that would make it so much easier for me

Your video is very amazing 👏🏻👏🏻I’m also Deaf from Essex Shame I didn’t ask you question about how deaf people can hear when to change the gear because normally when hearing people change the gears can hear the engine goes high means telling you change your gear but deaf can’t hear... damn I didn’t ask you the question!! Nevermind!! Would be lovely to meet you!! Matty Ford

Such a great topic! I’m hearing and I also rely on the flashing lights from firetrucks and etc because the siren sound is so loud that I can’t tell if it’s coming from behind my car or if I’m driving towards it.

You sign breakdown for car 🚗 is wrong. This sign is for “communication breakdown”. If sign car breakdown. It should be sign for car break and palm flat out turn face down with hand spread out. It’s proper sign. Ask other deaf people how they sign car breakdown.
