have been watching Mari unpack the many, many dresses she received for her Project Dress a Girl and your pattern showed up multiple times. I myself have made it twice (for the same organization) including with lining to make it 'reversible' and find it to be a very well planned and easy to sew/follow directions. So wanted to thank you for that personally.

Wow! Awesome idea! Sewing to help non-profits is an excellent idea! Instead of sewing a toile to discover what is needed to adapt a pattern to himself/herself and throwing it in the trash, a person can sew a garment and give it to a non-profit after using it to know how to fit the pattern to self. I wish that non-profits could give sewing classes.
@oodles_of_noodles.3 ай бұрын
This works if you are a confident and competent sewer and you are just using it for general size and fit because any donations should be with high quality fabrics and sewn to the best of your ability. If you wouldn't wear it yourself then it shouldn't be donated. Less experienced sewers will still probably need to make muslins first ( speaking in general and not just for this project as I feel you are also ). Each non-profit organisation will have information on their websites about the requirements for what is being donated plus various links to get you started, which sometimes will be links to sewing classes, generally online ones. In this case it is dresses for girls around the world aged 1 to 14 years old that are required and this video of Alissa's gives you all the information needed, a pattern for a size 3 dress, a sewing tutorial for making it ( so it IS essentially a sewing class ) and links to many other KZbinrs that are also sharing patterns and tutorials. Face to face sewing lessons are awesome for those who don't do so well with online classes and for most people their local community college or sewing dealers will run classes. I hope this is of some help.

For your raglan shirt, do you have a pattern for mixed fabric bases, as in a shirt with both knit and woven fabric? Last year I made and donated masks to medical professionals but the whole time I honestly felt like I wasn't doing enough or doing a good job so I had to stop after a while. I really would like to do something good with sewing again though.

how to cut out the bias tape?? didn't see a link to how to do that. I did buy your bias tape makers a while ago. do you cut it first out of the fabric or after you cut the pattern out?
@ThoughtfulCreativity3 жыл бұрын
Pattern first by folding opposite edges in and cutting back and front on the fold, then cutting the ruffle and what is left goes to bias tape. Also, if you look at the first page of the pattern it says - it does not have to be one prolonged piece, I have combined what I have to make longer bias tape pieces. Also, another solution would be to add a contrasting bias tape, so that way you can cut yours from a completely different piece of fabric and not worry about it. Bias tape tutorial here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnndpqCObNylkKc I am using red bias tape maker for my bias tape for this dress.

I tried the link for the pattern three times and when I got onto Wix through your link it said there was an error. Please help. Thank you.
Very confusing. Sometimes you add the seam allowance outside the pattern and sometimes within the pattern . I slowed the video and could not determine exactly where to add allowance because it looks like you add it in different places ( outside the pattern and sometimes in). Pleas clarify. Thank you. Seam allowance depend on my choice , so what seam tripe sewing for what alliance???
@susie37907 ай бұрын
She explains this at around marker 5:50. She adds 3/8" to the shoulder seam, not to the front neckline, keyhole, or front armhole. She then adds 3/8" to the side seam opposite the fold as well as 3/8" allowance to the bottom of the dress. I think the dress now requires at least 1 pocket and she adds 1/2" to the top and 3/8" to the sides and bottom for folding under before sewing to the front panel. It's easier to cut 2 pieces for each pocket and with rt. sides together sew around the pocket leaving a 2" hole at the bottom for turning it back to the rt. side. Then your pocket is lined. This time sew it down to the front but only on on 3 sides of the pocket, leaving the top open. Be sure to catch the opening at the bottom that you left for turning! Have fun!
