Do soundproofing curtains actually work? That is a popular question and these curtains should not be called sound proofing curtains, they are actually SOUND DEADENING CURTAINS.
Sound deadening curtains are capable of making a room sound better by absorbing the echos and making the room less noisy. There are better alternatives to soundproofing Curtains that will actually work in blocking sound and not just absorb sound.
I will explain in this video why soundproofing curtains don't work when soundproofing a window and I will show you 4 alternatives to these types of sound absorbing curtains.
Here are some of the soundproofing material I recommend. These are affiliate links that gives me a commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting my Channel!

I'm trying to make it so sound doesn't escape from my house. I just bought a manufactured home in a quiet community, and I'm hoping I can still swing having a band practice in my house. I think sound escapes through the windows more than the walls, so I was hoping sound deadening curtains would be the ticket, but your info makes sense. The windows are at least double pained. I'll still get the curtains, but maybe go for one big one with no gap.

I had the same problem. I use Flents Quiet Time 32 or 32 maybe it is 33 DB noise reduction ear plugs. They are the purple ones. When the neighbors A/C is super loud, I barely hear a faint amount of it. Once I am asleep, I do not hear anything. I would not be able to sleep without these. The sound vibrates and shakes the walls too. It's very hard to stop A/C noise. Also, you can call your city code enforcement and have the decibel levels checked from your bedroom with an open window. If they are too high, they will force your neighbors to fix the problem. I have to sleep with ear plugs regardless of the A/C though, because I sleep late due to working nights. So, in my case I did not try and get my neighbor to reduce the nose since a cheap set of ear plugs solved the problem. I also don't hear the A/C during the day as I watch TV and stay on the opposite side of the house. @@liendiep3404

Yeah, about the selling the house thing. We lived near a shipyard and had a boom car kid next door, we gave up and sold the house for just under $400k in a high demand Canadian city. We didn't buy back into the market, that was 2004 and we still don't have a house. Left the province and been uptight since about buying and running into a similar issue (which I have as a renter). Housing prices shot up where that house we sold now would fetch $2 million, and the market we're in now was cheap but also nearly a million here as well. Stay and fight, don't run or wait.

Yes, all modern men need to learn to be handy men and fix up their house when situations like these arise. Don't leave. Hardwork is needed anyway, whether you move or decide to solve the problem, so why not stay. I mean I'm just a regular middle aged woman, but even I am having to learn and labor. I encourage everyone to man or woman up when problems arise. Don't run as you say.

@briankehew579
@briankehew579 Жыл бұрын
That's a complicated question. It usually cost thousands to isolate a room. But you can kind of drop the level in the room for less money. Anything to contain the sound close to the source (an electric guitar/amp or speakers for a video game) will sort of help it from bouncing around the room. Cheaper things like blankets and curtains, rugs on the floor, they help a little bit but not very much. You can read about it and check some videos but it's pretty expensive to soundproof her room that's already built.

It wouldn’t do much to stop noise. There would be a gap around the mattress. Even if the mattress was stuck to the wall, sound would still easily go through because the material inside a mattress will not block any noise.

We got velvet blackout curtains for our 1st floor downtown San Francisco apartment and we were able to have 2 panels. It’s not a big deal. Where they meet you don’t have a gap because you make sure they’re overlapping. They really did help with sound deadening. We had a homeless guy shooting up under our window for 3 days and 3 nights and it blocked almost all sounds except for when his tweaker friend wouldn’t stop talking. The only other sounds these curtains weren’t able to block was bass from cars parked outside of our apartment. We did move, though. The upstairs neighbors stomped on their hardwood floors all day and night, and there’s no curtains to block that sound.

@@smetljesm2276 I think you need a curtain with at least 2 layers, one thick and DENSE layer of material that blocks the sunlight and sound (usually synthetic or plastic-like, or made of vinyl), and one layer facing the room that is softer to absorb sound saves. Good information here. IMHO, they work for their intended purpose... to help control, but not stop, transferred sound. People expect them to (nearly) totally stop the sound transfer, outside to inside. That is just not realistic and partially the fault of poor manufacture's marketing expectations. I use them for another purpose... to help control echo inside a room, mostly from my home theater/stereo system. I need more "mass" to help control the echo in my family room that the furniture and area rug just could not control enough. It helped immensely, without the need to use/mount ugly deadening panels to the wall.

You might look into noise-cancelling speakers. They are used in offices in the middle of noisy factories. The way they work is to produce the noise they hear but 180 degrees out of phase to cancel it. Sorry, I have no personal experience with it, and don't know how expensive it is, but I know it works.

Terrible dishonest video. I have spent more than a Thousand dollars on Sound reducing curtains They absolutely work. You can take a sound meter and see the difference. My Home Theater is Treated with multiple layers of thick cardboard and several layers of Curtains. 3 feet away outside of my Home Theater you can hear Nothing. I have 2 Home Theaters treated similarly. I can Now blast my Home Theatre and my Neighbors cannot hear anything. The curtains do an outstanding job of absorbing the sound and using cardboard is a tried and true method of sound proofing. For interior doors putting a curtain over the door decreases sound 50%. Where I live to be able to enjoy my Home Theater I had to sound proof my home theater and I couldn't have done it without using curtains. Have you ever had Music Class in School? I have. School's all over the world use curtains to sound proof their Music rooms. Music rooms for hundreds of years have used curtains for sound proofing because Curtains work to absorb Sound.
