Do the Amish truly know Jesus?

Have you ever wondered what the Amish community believes about Jesus? In this video, I explain what I have learned throughout my experience in leaving the Old Order Amish culture and lifestyle. In the Amish, we are told that Jesus has died for our sins to give us a chance to go to heaven. There is really no further explanation on how He accomplished salvation for us who choose to put our faith and trust in Him. When we question the Amish beliefs, we are told that we as humans are not supposed to be able to understand a lot of things in the Bible. I have found that to be incorrect, along with many other things in the Bible that are very clear. I hope this video gives you a little more insight into the Amish religion. And remember, we love the Amish people. It is their religious beliefs that we do not support as it does not match up with what the Bible teaches.

I came from a Roman Catholic background, and I am now since 2001, a born again Christian. Repentance of my sins, trusting in Christ and Christ alone. Keep up the good work. Jesus is the ONLY WAY to Heaven (John 14:6). Jesus is God & over 100 Verses prove that completely (Your John reference is a great example). Only Jesus died on the Cross for your sins and rose again. In the Old Testament, sin was covered by animal sacrifices. In the New Testament it says in Hebrews 10:10, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." * I have MANY Amish friends and shop at their stands weekly, and they are the most dedicated to God/Jesus & Family that I have ever seen. @@AmishTransformed I understand your frustration. I was raised an evangelical and likewise, the Divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ was not rightly explained. It is good that you acknowledge that Jesus Christ is "God" and not just a "god" as the Jehovah's witnesses say He is for the Father called the Son "God" as He is "Begotten not made" as the Orthodox and Catholics and Protestants affirm in reciting the Nicean Creed. The Jehovah's witnesses are Arian and rightly condemned as outside true orthodox Christian doctrine in this regard. The problem however with what you are saying in "Jesus is God" is that you are confusing the the shared substance ot the three Divine persons with the personal title "GOD" which in the absolute sense refers only to the Father who is alone Unbegotten. I encourage you to interpret the phrase "and the Word was God" not as an affirmation that He that was with GOD is part of a manifold deity, but "the only Begotten God" who was with "the Only true GOD" (the Father). For though His substance is received by the Son from the Father alone, He is not His own first cause as if "self existent" or "Ase". It is entirely orthodox to say the Son was generated by the Father and that without Father the Son and Spirit would not exist, but the Father would still exist if the Son was not Begotten and the Spirit would not exist without the Father from whom He was "granted that the Son should have life in Himself". For as Seth was Begotten so to the Son was Begotten before all ages by the Father, and the Spirit proceeds from the Substance of the Father alone (Eastern Orthodoxy) through the Instrumentality of the Son (Roman Catholic and Reformed protestant). Nicea is not an inspired council though it does provide some clarity, but muddles the true teaching of the apostles in the Apostalic Constitutions. For the Spirit is also one of only Three persons who are the GOD-kind. But as Origen who affirmed the trinity said in his explanation, "the Son is older than He" (the Holy Spirit) the "Athanasian creed" is a western invention and the Eastern Orthodox reject it as a false creed. For there are three Divine Spirits Father Son and Holy Spirit. One Unbegotten by another of His kind as Adam was unbegotten by another of his kind. Seth is the image of Adam, Begotten by the Unbegotten father of all humanity WITHOUT A HELPER, THE COMFORTER, and the Spirit proceeds from the Substance of the Father alone as Eve proceeded from Adam alone through the Instrumentality of the Son. Irenaeus of Lyon says the platonic gnostic emanations of Valentinius who was an early proponent of falsehoods from Simon the sorcerer mentioned in Acts was in error and thus the nicean Anathema on the early church is evil.

RELIGIOUS people (law followers) only read what their churches tell them to read, and they listen to what their elders or pastors tell them what scriptures their reading actually mean, instead of letting God speak for himself (by his word) all scripture is given by inspiration from God but for some reason MOST men think God needs their help in getting his point across, as a 70 yr old man that has read and studied daily for 40 + yrs this just baffles me but I certify you brethren the Gospel which is preached of me (Paul) is NOT of men neither did I receive it of men nor was I taught, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ muslims believe in jesus, a prophet unto mohamed lds believe in jesus the brother of Michael the arch angel jw. believe in jesus the lesser god buddist believe in jesus a good man and prophet true believers, know Jesus the Christ the son of the most high God, the great I AM, Adoni Elohim, the beginning, the end, the first and the last, the Alpha and the Omega, etc. etc.

I'm an Amish man , yes that's right with a smartphone ! 😂 I grew up in an Amish church very much like what you explained and it's very frustrating ! I can tell by how you talk and dress , that you grew up in a (certain) old order church . I could tell you , story after story , as you could tell us . Just know that what I have found amongst most Amish (a large percentage) is that they are not willing to hold the word of God higher then their traditional ways of life . And yes I don't think they know who Jesus really is . They want to use him to beat you in the right direction , instead of cleaning their hearts of sin so the light and love of Jesus can shine through them and show you the way to heaven ! I would love to do a podcast with you sometime . There's so much to say on this topic ! Also , where am I today ? Well I'm traveling 2 hours to an Amish church that believes in the miracles and powers of the Trinity you spoke of ! May God bless you on your journey ! When you refer to Jesus as the Son. Words are symbols they aren't always literal. God is trying to communicate a narrative. Jesus is his son, part of the trinity, Jesus is God bc he's a part of God sent down to communicate to man. It's not that hard.

I don't know why this young lady didn't investigate the faith that was behind her family's and church's ethnic tradition, and her congregation's apparent substitution of outward Amish tradition for the Amish faith, before going Protestant and then making curious claims about the faith in social media, but the Amish historically sing about the Nature of Christ in their Ausbund hymns and they embrace the Dordrecht Confession. (Jakob Ammann thought that they should be teaching the Scriptures such that a separate confession was unnecessary, but he had no substantive objection to it.)

There is one with God in the beginning Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! God is omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time. He can be in numerous places at once; he can be in heaven and in spirit form and in bodily form all at the same time. He is that powerful. He is that big. He has no limits. He is not restricted the way that mankind is. He is able to manifest himself in multiple ways. He is not divided or weakened. He is one. A man can be a couple's child, a woman's husband, and a child's father all at the same time. One man can be in those 3 roles without being divided. Surely God can be in 3 roles without division or restriction. God said in his word that he is one. I believe it. I believe that God is One. Jesus is God. This is what I follow.

Jesus explains that he operates under the authority of his father and that he came from his father. He said that he does not do his own will but that he does the will of the one that sent him. He said that he does not have his own doctrine but the doctrine of the one that sent him. He clearly understands that he is less than his father. He also knows that he is our God. That He made us and that he is our father just as his father made him. He wants us to be one with him the same way that he is one with his father. You and I are NOT God and yet Jesus says that he wants us to be one with him the SAME way he is one with his father. That lets you know that he is not the same entity as his father but that they are in perfect unity. That is the oneness that he speaks of. Also, if we need Jesus to come into the presence of God, but he IS the God that he is going to be our mediator for, then we don't need a mediator and we are already in his presence. These concepts only make sense if the Father is a separate entity from the Son. The son, born of the father is like the father. He is a God to us. Study the bible more, it is all in there.... It's good to see you learn the importance of the deity of Christ. However, the Gospel is not that Jesus came to cover our sins. The first time the Gospel is preached is in Acts 2. None of the elements you identify as the Gospel are preached there. If we take an average of elements from the different places the Gospel is presented, it looks like this: The Son of God descended from heaven and became man of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, suffered, and died for our sins. He was buried and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He is coming again to judge the living and the dead. This message forms the central part of every ancient creed. Every summary of the Gospel has some of these elements (Acts 2, Rom 1.1-5, 1.16-17; Phil 2.6-11, 2 Tim 2.8, I Cor 15.1-5). Neither does "died for our sins" mean he covered our sins. God does not believe white lies. He doesn't look on the blood of Jesus and see Jesus' righteousness instead of our sins. The blood is to purify us and make us pure. For instance, in Revelation 21.27 says nothing profane will enter into the New Jerusalem, which would include people who are "covered" but not pure. For these subjects, I can recommend some Bible scholars (mainstream and men subject to review), one from Evangelicals, one from the Orthodox, one from the Anglicans, to leave little doubt on what the contents of the Gospel are: Matthew Bates, "Salvation by Allegiance Alone" Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick, "Arise O God: The Gospel of Christ's Defeat of Demons, Sin, and Death" NT Wright, "Why the Gospel is News and What Makes it Good"

From my understanding, their traditions are the focus, not so much the Bible. They basically read the Bible on Sunday, and do whatever the bishop tells them to. Many of those who start reading their Bibles end up leaving or getting kicked out.

Hi! I realize I don’t know you but your story makes me so happy for you. To come to the realization of the gospel on your own. You are a brave young woman and an inspiration. I know you understand that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Have you been baptized in Jesus name? This is the true baptism. For so long I believed something entirely wrong somewhat like you and a pastor showed me in the Bible about baptism and receiving the Holy Spirit. (He also taught me to compare everything anyone says about God or being a Christian to scripture like you are doing) I would like to recommend some Bible reading for you:) Matthew 28: 18,19,20 Acts 2:38 which is the fulfillment of John 3:5 The whole book of Acts and especially chapters 1 and 2 where the disciples receive the Holy Spirit as Jesus promised and spread the gospel as Jesus commanded. John 14:16, 14:26, the promise of the Holy Spirit to come John 15:12-15 Colossians 3:17 (baptism is a deed) Jude verse 3 (there is only one salvation everyone is saved the same way) I hope this helps you as has helped me. ​@candma4240 I believe that one of the best ways to be a light to the Amish community is to be kind to them. You see, most Amish have a negative mindset on anyone who is not Amish, (even though they won't admit it) and when I was growing up I definitely noticed when people were kind and loving and it made me wonder. It helped to realize that just because we were Amish doesn't mean that we are so different and so much better than others. Also it helped me with my relationship with my family (to be kind to them) when they were trying so hard to keep me in the Amish.

@@AmishTransformed Thank you so much for the reply. That is very helpful. In our area, some Amish are old order (Schwartzentruber) and some are less restrictive. There is a wide range and some whom I've talked to who are definitely believers, though they weren't old order. I've found that the old order Amish women seem particularly closed off, while the men are a bit more friendly, perhaps due to the men making business? (Our area has a lot of tourism). I'm a woman and will do everything I can to be kind and show the love of Christ to the Amish women. Some of the old order Amish women just look very sad, closed off and stern. I feel like they seem unhappy. I pray they can see the love of Christ through me. Thank you for your ministry, sister. I pray God multiplies it and uses it to reach more Amish.

While Christ has been given authority or all things by his Father (making them equal, according to Philippians 2:5-11), there is a hierarchy (see John 14:28). While they are one, they are separate persons as well. It’s because we have sinned against God, we have broken His law, and Because God is perfectly Just, Holy, Good, and the one thing that God must do is keep His word. He must punish our sins, but God is also perfectly Loving, and so He sent His Son to die for us. Jesus gave His life freely for us. . We have hen receive this and want to follow Him. That is incorrect teaching about grace, but that is normal for everyone that is Christian to think that way, as Jesus leads the blind home. People could have made it into heaven and Jesus did not need to die and suffer for us. This whole wide world can be good before God, but none of you people seek the face of God to understand to depart from evil, that is why God gave a offering to save the blind. You believe as do every other Christian you are cursed in sin, which is not scriptural. No where does God say you are cursed to be sinners. As Christians pat each other on the back we need a perfect person to beg to not have the cross and suffer for us and we love it that God loves us. Christians think they have free will, but with those with sight if there are any, you will see you are all slaves to the evil one and no one can be good.....as Christians laugh only God is good and we love it that way and we are free with free will, not realing you are slaves to sin.....or as God puts it to Christians slaves to righteousness as they serve sin.
