I have no horse in this race, but isn't the statement at 6:27 (refs aren't going to get involved with marginal contact) completely contradictory to some of the fouls called against the Raptors (e.g. 3:30 on defense and 6:55 on offense)? I am sure every call can be explained in a vacuum, but in the context of the game, I want consistency from the refs. And even from this video I don't see consistency when one no-call on the Lakers is accompanied by the statement that "AD will get the benefit of the doubt - deservedly so" and another by "I can shrug at this no-call". 3:30 compared to 4:27 also doesn't look much different to me, but it's called differently. Consistency from the referees matter and when they are inconsistent, they better be on both sides equally in all phases of the game - when they are not, situations like these occur. Didn't watch the game, only this video, but I can see why the Raptors may have felt wronged.

Not a raptors fan but you definitely missed a lot in your “analysis” here. For example, you mentioned ticky tack fouls on the raptors, but didn’t realize that the lakers committed the same thing on the other end but were not called. Just because you had referees on this channel before, doesn’t mean you should ignore how bad the referees have been over the past few years.

This video did highlight some inconsistencies (they were consistent in some ways), but those inconsistencies throughout a game is what leads to frustration. If, you wouldnt call that cannot from AD to Scottie (the 70/30 no call) then dont call that for the rest of the 47 mins. Players understand the level of reffing fouls changes per game but that changing during the game is what WE ALL HATE.

AD was fouled 16 times and Lebron 6. It's hard to stop AD and fouling is just trying to play good defense on him. The same for Lebron. The opposing team is not gonna just let AD and Bron score without swiping at them or playing them agreesively. Similar to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Embid, they are the top free-throw shooters in the league. You damn near have to foul them in order to keep them from easy baskets. On the flip side, AD is a great defensive player that doesn't have to foul a lot to make a defensive impact. He plays a clean defensive game. That is why you rarely see AD ejected or foul-out. Lebron doesn't foul much either simply because he doesn't play impactful defense. He just goes for steals. I get mad watching him play sometimes because he lets players fly right past him. I remember Kuzma had to push him in the back to just to guard his man. So when you got your 2 best players (AD and Lebron) drawing fouls, and not committing any. There will be a lopsided foul ratio. I guess you poeple want the refs to go out of their way to call any little foul they can find on AD and Lebron to even things out, but that would not be fair to the Lakers organization and fan base. I have a simple solution, stop fouling, and play clean defense like Kawhi, PG, and Gobert. They get the job done without sending players to the line.

@@wayneerichsenwatched the whole video. The point that Coach made is that a lot of the fouls were close calls, and reasonable no calls. The problem is that the Lakers got way more of the close calls than the Raptors. And in a one point game, it shows why that is so important. The Lakers got were 3-4 calls in the 4th quarter that could have gone either way, that would have decided the game. The Raptors had 2-3 similar possessions in the 4th that also weren’t called. Also, his point about the moving screen on AD is negated by the fact that AD DID THE SAME THING ON THE PREVIOUS PLAY. Plus, Coach said multiple times that since AD is such a good defender, he gets the benefit. I completely disagree with that, either the refs see it or they don’t, if they don’t see it, don’t call it. This video is beyond painful to watch, Nick your bias is showing here. The whole point was that the degree of contact is not being called on both ends, your out here saying “oh well there was a bit of contact on the back of Thad Young and a bit of contact on the follow through but it’s not a foul” and then during your prize picks coverage you show LeBron using the off hand to push off Scottie twice and dislodge him twice with his whole body. Gone I can’t stand your coverage of reffing these days because you’re just toeing the line for refs. And my fucking god man,”Darko isn’t even mad”, what the hell is that? If a coach gets mad then he’s over reacting but if a coach is not mad because he’s not trying to get thrown out of the game it’s reason to say there wasn’t a foul.

I’m confused. I pointed out the Thad play because it was could’ve been a foul. Lebron is a beast to have to referee and it’s the most difficult job in the world to figure out when the defender fouls and when he commits an offensive foul. Barnes wasn’t in legal guarding position on those which is why it’s an easy call

@@bballbreakdown I was wondering if this play was going to be covered in your vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmPQZGyrhs-kmdEfeature=shared&t=285 Where Lebron just plows Scottie in the chest with a huge shoulder before going to the basket.... Exactly how in the world are you going to defend that?? I tell you how Lakers/Lebron/AD style, flopping... Notice Scotties playing actual basketball and takes the push and doesn't flair or flop around like a flipping fish out of forking water? And guess what the reward is, a foul on him. Awesome!!!!!!!!!! I'm almost sure if he had flopped he might have gotten the call, almost because we are still talking Lebron. Isn't it nice that a player who is playing real defense with purpose not just playing passive wait to be hit and fall backwards with hands up flailing defense get rewarded like this. This game at best just shows it pays to flop instead of true stand up defense and driving to score the basket instead of baiting a foul call from the refs. I fear this kind of crap will teach great young players like Barns that "They need to sell it to the refs"... Garbage. Like others have said there is supposed to be some kind of crack down on flopping... They might have forgot about that memo this game. I usually love your vids too as the breakdown quality is really high, but I was hoping for a unbiased opinion which I feel was not quite the case here unfortunately.

@@bballbreakdown Yes I understand that but there are other examples you use of fouls called in favour of the Lakers that you just brush offas being a foul and don’t provide any criticality to them. Even the intro shows you fallen into the exact same hole as nearly all of the ESPN talking heads, that it’s about the number of fouls when it is painfully obvious to someone who watched the game that the main problem is the contact is not being applied equally. As for LeBron, he isn’t a “beast” to referee, refs have just accepted that he gets away with things. And you’re not gonna convince me that LeBron ramming his whole body weight into Scottie is a legal move when LeBron initiates all of the contact. Otherwise you’re just saying no one can guard him which is tantamount to legislating defence out of the game for certain players. *Edit* And I will add that you saying that it is so difficult for refs to officiate NBA games is ridiculous because umpires and refs in other sports have just as difficult jobs as NBA officials do and guess what, they don’t fuck up nearly as often, they don’t have nearly as many players who hate them (like Scott Foster among others) and they somehow manage to no be the centre of attention at during games of their respective sports.

I think im done with this channel after the commentary on the rj foul on Christie. "To show you how good the refs are" and "check the right had raking down on Christie's left arm" common man, you cannot tell if there was any contact with the right arm in the replay, at the very least you could have said there may have been contact but it is hard to see, blatant bias showing. Compare that to the commentary of the pontential fouls on scottie earlier in the video, "impossible to tell if there was contact, lets just move on". Feels like recently any sense of impartiality has gone out the window on this channel and you are just trying to push an agenda.

The recent news of Darko being fined for speaking out against the corrupt practices within the NBA is alarming. It is unacceptable that referees are allegedly deciding the outcomes of games. Such actions violate the spirit of fair play that should govern all sports. We demand that those referees involved in such practices be held accountable and immediately removed from their positions. Additionally, the affected teams deserve justice and must be compensated for any losses they may have suffered due to these corrupt actions. It is time for the NBA to take a strong stance against corruption and uphold the integrity of the sport.

That means that, _FOR SOME UNEXPLAINED REASON,_ on average, the Lakers were getting 10.25 MORE FTAs than their opponents in the final 32 games of the season. This increase began immediately after the loss to Boston and before the trade players saw any minutes. Why did they triple? Who knows? When you have fans of the nba, not the raptors, complaining and voicing their displeasure, you know your wrong. No one gives two craps about the raptors, they have a bad record and they don't have a superstar player. The fact that everyone is supporting our fanbase speaks volumes about what the refs did and how wrong you are on your takes. One thing is clear, you clearly showed your colors here and where you stand in terms of integrity of the game. The fact is the lakers will make the playin this year. The nba will make it happen and I think they already have the plan in motion. Make enough questionable calls against teams below .500 against the the lakers and they will likely win enough games to make the playin. That is all the league has to do is to allow the lakers to make the playin. The refs can get them into the postseason and rig that playin game. Once they make the playoffs, its a win for the league and a win for laker stans. The lakers are a garbage team. Their record the past 20 games show that. But somehow they get the benefit of calls. 6:40 this is the pick n roll problem i have across the league. You mention the moving pick n roll foul later in the vid (which should have been called a double foul - foul for the moving pick, foul for flop/embellishment), but here Davis is setting a pick and maintaining contact all thebway to the post. At what point is he 'setting a pick' and then - because they switch - when is he 'battling for position'. Davis uses his forearms on Siakam to set a screen and extends / pushes off to set himself up in the post. If I'm setting up in the post I cant extends my forearms to get position. I can use my arms to establish position/find the defender, butnI cant extend/push. If I'm setting a pick I can set my forearms but I can't extent/push. So why do I constantly see (not just here) big men extending arms on picks as a variation of a push when they roll to the post and not get called for some sort of foul? Was I just taught incorrectly and pushing isnt just for me and my streetball buddies?

I'm not saying the raptors didn't foul, I'm saying and what most other people are also saying is that the discrepancy was fucked up. 23-2, 15-2 without take fouls shouldn't exist in today's NBA when most of the non calls on the Lakers were called on the raptors. Plus the Lakers getting so many fouls ruined what was a great game, no one wants to watch constant free throws

If it can be 'construed' a flop...it actually is a flop. Davis sold the call. Selling the call by exaggerating the force of the hit and flying onto the ground by someone 5-6 inches shorter than you...that's the definition of a flop. Scottie's basket should have counted and then a technical free throw by the Raptors...a potential 4 point swing right there. And yes...Barnes was fouled by Christie...so should have been a 3 point play there too. In a game that was ultimately decided by 1 point...ALL OF THAT MATTERS.

dude, i love your channel but you're completely out of line on this one. I watched the game live, then rewatched the 4th. I'm with you in a vaccume... taking individual plays one at a time out of context. There was 2 or 3 blatent missed calls on the raptors... that was about it. And probably one or two missed calls on the other end. The problem was both teams weren't being held to the same standard. The lakers were getting calls according to the playbook. the refs were VERY tight on calling the game when the raptors were "maybe" fouling. not a single margin call went the raptors way. meanwhile the lakers got a very lose standard for fouling. in short, they could do the shit the raptors could not, it wasn't the same type of calling, that was the problem furthermore, those cherry picked "foul call" stats should be bellow you and your channel. this channel is usually the gold standard for basketball content, but you really cherry picked some stats to make your case. Last year the lakers had 400+ advantage in the foul calls, the second best team was at like 110... it's the same this year. the +- on calls is heavily weighted for the lakers this year. Sure they might not be getting a LOT of calls, but they get, on average WAY MORE then their opponents. Just like how they got the favorable reffing against the warriors in last years game 7. The way the refs called the uneven game the other night was a travesty.

This isn't new anymore. Right now all the talk about the lakers is that they have a "slim chance" of making the playoffs. Just like last year and the benefit of the time out call in the In Season Tournament, the whistle is going to guarantee them bare minimum a western semis appearance.

As usual ref favouring takes. Take another look at the Barrett ball swipe from the CORRECT angle. All ball and no arm whatsoever. Wrong call. Also you state they are being consistent with marginal body contact. Then why no call on Barnes at 2:35? Basically the same move as Reeves at 5:34. And the illegal screen call on Barrett is BS. AD should have been called for a flop on that.

Usually quite good analysis on this channel, but this one is absolutely absurd. Well, not all of the moments that are looked at of course, but there is a whole bunch of ridiculous comments and opinions in this one as a whole. Sure we can all agree and see (at least everyone that is not totally biased) that maybe it should not have been an even distribution of free throws and yes, propably many of the calls in favour of lakers were actually fair. But to look at that video and blatantly say that everything is well and good, cmon??? Seriously? :D Even a 3 year old lookin at this would understand that something is not quite right here. Oh and by the way, such thing as a "deserved benefit of the doubt" DOES NOT EXIST when you're watching and analysing a slow motion replay of the game. If one (star) player gets their "benefit of the doubt" in the game, and another (not so star) doesnt then thats what is called UNFAIR officiating period! It may be somewhat excused when the refs do that during the game and when seeing everything only in realtime...but dont go and watch a video in slow motion, call yourself unbiased and talk about some kind of freakin deserved benefit of the doubt! Unreal. The calling of fouls in this game was not consistent and there is really nothing to discuss here. And I can easily say that not being a fan of either of those teams, i dont give a damn how this affects their end result, but I dont want to see sh*t like that in any NBA game

Everyone knows that things are rigged, yes rigged, for LBJ and the Lakers. There's nothing new when it comes to the NBA, you know the fix is in when you see the Lakers. Good on the Raptors head coach to call it out. Commissioner Cue Ball has made it so blatantly obvious that he wants rigging for LBJ it's hilarious. Team owners need to call out the rigging.

Please bring back the game from the past! Who wants to never know what the heck the referees just called? With all due respect coach.. you're wrong around the RJ swipe down at 5:57. He never hit his arm, the ball was dislodged and that caused Christie to lose control of the ball but the referees are hyper aware of L.A's tendencies hence why they got that call. The play when Austin Reaves drove the lane into Thaddeus Young in comparison to Schroder is also nonsense because they were inconsistent the entire game with that call on both ends of the floor. I take out my biases as a Canadian, I respect LA in terms of the past champions and their franchise as a whole but that type of free throw discrepancy is unacceptable. Most fans just want the PLAYERS TO DECIDE the game, not these ego-driven foot locker referees. That's not too much to ask but there's definitely some strings being pulled behind the scenes with the league and sports betting! Anyways have a good one.

@@jansmitowiczauthor78 1. The warriors damn near led the league in fouls per game last year. 2. Lebron is obviously going to get calls cuz he drives hard to the rim often, and AD is gonna get calls cuz the Warriors literally had no one to guard him + he’s already a dominant inside force which leads to more calls. On the other hand you got the Warriors, a team who relies on shooting much more than the Lakers, who focused on dominating the paint and getting to the rim. Hell, the Warriors were afraid to even go in the paint cuz AD was locking it down so they just relied on the 3. If you watched the games and had a elementary understanding of the game, you would understand this.

Interesting Lakers facts below: 1. Did you know the Lakers free throw differential over the last two seasons is well over +1000 more free throws than their opponents? They lead the league in that category. The second place team doesn’t even crack +350. 2. Did you know that if you combined the free throw differential of the teams in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place the Lakers would still have a comfortable lead over that team? 3. Did you know that the Lakers have shot more free throws than their opponent’s in 19 out of the last 20 games? The one game they shot less was by 4 free throws. 4. Did you know that during a recent game where the Lakers played the Timberwolves they shot 31 free throws to Minnesota’s 11? This was a game Lebron missed and Anthony Davis sat for 3 and a half quarters due to injury. 5. Did you know the league outright attempting and succeeding to rig games in the Lakers favor?

I have enjoyed some of your breakdown videos before, but you downplaying every no call on the lakers and highlighting every foul on the raptors is laughable. I have no dog in this race, but you have lost all credibility with this breakdown. 23 fts to 2 in the fourth quarter. The funniest part is when you say the refs aren’t going to call a foul at the end of the because of marginal contact with Davis on Barns driving to the hole and yet with a straight face say them waving off a GAME TYING 3 because of a clear flop is cute. Even if there was contact it was less than marginal. Go play in the park.
