I told myself finish all my old ideas and if I'm not feeling an old idea, just turn it into a loop for a future sample pack or send the old ideas to my friends and see if they can expand on them.

Sort of the beauty of bitwig, the way it lets you have multiple projects open. Get stuck, open up a couple of ideas and merge together , move forwards. Getting hung up on the perfect sound, as you say happens to everyone. Tutorials are great for inspiring , but until you go through the process yourself it’s not yours. Great video 😊

I'm going to say it: I've never felt inspired by anything I learned in a tutorial video, not once. I want to think I'm going to close the tab after a video and apply it right away, but I rarely do. So glad this was the first tip.

That's amazing. I took an experimental week to not watch anything, just spend some time exploring my DAW and taking some risks. It turned out great!! Learned a lot about myself and about music.

Recently I moved all my project files to another drive and it put into perspective just how little I finish. Literally hundreds of unfinished projects and nothing to show for it. I didn’t release anything last year. Yet I spent the most time I ever have on it. I really need to finish what I make.

Tâches on a streak 😮 love your unique approach, never seen anyone scratch topics no one talks about, yet they resonate. Btw, everytime I watch your video, I rev up video or have it handy when you are showing technical bits while pausing. Like; your pad tutorial, I paused midway and never finished it :( I started making tracks with halfway made pad lol

One of my favorite things to do with your videos is to watch the initial intro where you say that you can do a particular technique with a particular device. Then I stop right there and open up bitwig and try to do it on my own. If I'm able to devise something passable on my own then I consider that completed and if I have problems then I go back to watch your magic. That way I can waste time on KZbin and still accomplish something

This resonates a lot! I started making music in 2009- I sort of had the opposite problem of what you described I probably should’ve looked for more instruction and I lacked basic fundamentals for years. So of course, my music didn’t sound great- particularly from a technical standpoint. That being said, I think it’s actually important for every producer to have a stage where the music they make is not “good” or “commercially competitive” I worry that all of the tools we have available to us now (splice loops, ai music, etc.) will lead to people feeling that they can bypass the 10s of thousands of hours that it takes to master the craft of music production. Bottom line- my message to new producers is open your DAW, mess with some plug ins, make weird sounds- all with the goal of learning and improving. Thank you for the video, I’m off to work on a new project 🫡

YESSSS!!! Leave it to Tâches to make a video telling you to stop watching videos and get to creating!!! As real as it gets! Always offering wisdom, even if that wisdom means less clicks for him--Just get out there and make YOUR ART!!!!

I definitely went down the Bitwig Grid rabbithole and built a lot of cool stuff without ever finishing any music. Going to refocus this year and get stuff done! Thanks for creating a Bitwig community, it's been amazing so far!

And as you go forward, very solid points concerning the learning process. Theory comes hand in hand with application-and the underlying purpose of oneself while creating music, is very important to delve into. It's different for each and every one of us, but it pays dividends to actually know why we eventually produce!

wisdom vs knowledge! Avoidance! Great advice! Also, breaking down existing work in the most detail possible then applying it to your own work is a great learning experience on many levels.

It's so funny, the parallels between software development and music production are almost direct. I'm a self-taught web developer and one of the things I learned was building your own apps as a beginner is a WAY faster way to learn how to code than being stuck in tutorial hell. Just watch a few for the basics, and then dig in. As you run into problems, the tutorials will be there, and your skills will naturally grow. But if you don't run into the problems, you won't understand the tools.

Hey Taches, what's your take on remaking other people's songs to improve (not remixing but remaking from zero)? Is it really an excelent way to improve as some people say or just another way to procrastinate and not work on your own songs? Thank you!

I’m on it! No more vids. Well, in the spirit of ‘backtracking’, I’ll try to use these rules to limit poisoning my Time & Mind with KZbin’s flawed seduction of endless personal growth in all directions: 1. No recommended vids. It must be a specific question / topic I deliberately searched for. 2. No vids unless I’ve got a pen & paper in hand, so I can retain & use the valuable wisdom of Taches Teaches, or in the very remotely possible case, those of others. (FootNote: Given my unutterable ignorance, and perhaps as I’m far more in my element with a 🎸 rather than a mouse in my hands (in each case, whether electronic or otherwise), I do feel obliged to confess that as of yet, I’m not actually too familiar with BigWig 🙃, as such, the illicit vids I’ve relished thus-far related primarily to your general/ marketing/ Top-5 topics and the like). Anyway Cheers Man! Time to get to work and record my Eric Johnson inspired guitar chord solo to FINISH my current track. So I guess this is goodbye 🥲

My dude, I like your videos, and I also like to type internet comments and sometimes I write comments on your videos. That isn't an explanation, but, if you think about it, it's not not not an explanation. Also I loved that painting you showed us and if there's a KZbin rabbit joke I can fall down so I can feel better about not painting myself then please send links. PS watching your videos doesn't make me not make music. I watch (mostly listen) while doing other things, so it's putting ideas in a space where sometimes I pay attention and sometimes I barely pay attention. Main point is, don't worry about what's going on in my head, because that way lies madness. Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah-nagl fhtagn
