I agree 100% with everything you said. I have been following you for sometime and have learned a thing or two. 😃 I am constantly checking my freezers. As a matter of fact, I installed monitoring systems on mine and set the threshold for temp well below a danger zone. I tend to do 1-3 capes at a time, as I am not a full-time taxidermist, but PH is critical, I check daily. Here in the last year, I seem to be pulling customers from other taxidermists. That is not by my choosing, but what I am hearing is cost relative to quality and promised dates, that you mentioned. I have temporarily suspended accepting new work to clear my backlog. Other taxidermist should not be afraid to do so either. This year has been excellent for business, but almost got out of control without good self-control. Good stuff, keep it coming my friend. God Bless!

Great advice but your #5 should be #2 with #1 being "not charging enough".

Most beginners around here charge too much for lesser work and the business is over before it gets started. Also, no business can operate with too much overhead, but taking too many deer is so commonplace that people almost expect to wait 2 years, although bad practice, and it can be adjusted and corrected within a year unlike too much debt

Great advice. One more thing..., never bump someone ahead. Get them done as they come in.

Great info! I would add: Have a back up generator for your freezers (check it once every couple a weeks too) and have emergency cash to replace a failed freezer. One of my freezers died last summer & I had to rush to Lowes on a weekend to get a new one. freezers are Life in this business. Nice video!

Yes!! I did buy one last year. Forgot all about it out it!

@@thecedarridgechronicles Hurricane Michael hit us & we were without power for nine days. That’s when I learned to have a generator. Not only for the shop but for the food freezers too.

Great video, I believe there are temperature monitoring devices that will connect with apps on your phone. They will alert you if the temperature drops below a certain level. I've lost a seasons worth of deer meat due to a freezer going out on me before, and I've had friends tell me about these devices.

If I’m not mistaken I think my brother has one on his freezer. Would be a great investment for sure even for home freezers. Between all the deer and fish I’d be out of food for a year
