@@Splintz246 There might have been some problem with the editting software. I was trying to edit some sound profiles on a video this week and my software crashed multiple times while doing so; eventually the editor might have forgotten what parts of the edit they actually saved.

Best way to restore headlights is the take them off, send them with 200 grits knock-off all the heart buildup, and then keep going up until you hit 800 grit. Then put your preffered UV resistant laquer/clearcoat, then sand orange peel off with 900 grit, and keep going up until desired glossiness

What has worked for me in the past with headlight (I used to detail cars) I would use a very high grit sand paper (ex 1200 or 1500) and scuff the entire surface. Once it was sanded smooth, I would spray the entire surface with a clear coat and let it dry in a relatively warm, dust-free room. The clarity was about 95-98% brand new looking.

What the bug spray does, it does melt the plastic but there is a top layer like a clear coat that reduces UV damage. Once this is gone there is no protection on the lights anymore. A restoration of the clear plastic on the housings, or replacements which could cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars. As a intermediate mechanic, I do NOT advise going with the Headlight trend.

Using random stuff to clean plastic/acrylic can cause it to craze - lots of tiny cracks that can weaken the material and make it even harder to see through. Sometimes it looks scuffed, but the plastic has cracked. Instead, use cleaning products made for cleaning acrylic/plastic. Glass is far more durable and resistant to chemical attacks, which may be where some of this “advice” comes from.

The best approach to avoiding yellowed headlights, is to not buy a Chevy in the first place. ;-P

Yellowing of plastic headlights is due to the UV protectant on the surface of the lens. It reacts with the UV in sunlight and turns that yellow color. Your car tires do the same thing. Once removed like this, you need to reapply a UV protectant. There are a number of off the shelf products that works well. If you want it done the right way, you would need to wetsand and polish the lights, then apply a UV protectant and sealant.

For cleaning headlights in my experience those kits don't work very well so what I did was use sandpaper starting low and working up to 2000 grit than taking mineral spirits and clear varnish and mixing 1:1 ratio and applying that to the cleaned headlights after being sanded by hand and then let to dry for 12 hours and it stays clear for years 😎👍

Windex will FOG your headlights. That's one of the major reasons you see so many fogged headlights. NEVER use anything containing ammonia on polycarbonate.

Honestly, the mashed potatoes could probably be made much better by using just enough water to make them soft, while mixing them with the hand blender. Cause you are right, all the salt/oil/flavors were washed off, but you don't have to throw out that water.

The head light idea!!!. Yeah it works but if you really want to permanently clean your headlights for cheap get some 1000 grit sand paper wet sand the lens and lightly clear coat the lenses and they stay brand new permanently. Nothing can oxidize the clear coat(rattle can)
