This is the sequel to 'Do They Know its Christmas' by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, recorded on 25 November 1984 by Band Aid, a supergroup which included the biggest British and Irish musical acts of the time.
It became the biggest selling single of all time in the UK, and held this title until 1997 when it was overtaken by Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997", released as a tribute to Princess Diana.
'Do they know..' raised £8 million within twelve months the famine for Ethiopia, far more than Bobs original goal of £70,000. This sequel lists many of the items that your money enabled them to donate.
A year later in 1985 there was a Global Concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people).
On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative happened in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Japan, Austria, Australia and West Germany. It was one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time: an estimated global audience of 1.9 billion, across 150 nations, watched the live broadcast.
Here is a link to a fantastic documentary of the Global event in 1985, if short of time start watching at 54mins. (30 mins to the end)
