Everyone reading this, except the newbies, knows that it is SO much easier to safety a turnbuckle or hardware on the bench than it is where it is installed. Excellent video. While I have your attention, when it comes to installing a bolt with a castle nut I like to run the nut down by hand and install a cotter pin so that the bolt can rotate freely should the self-aligning bearing were to seize. What are your thoughts on this?

the threads on your turnbuckle should be even just an FYI.

I work for a major airline I haven't safety wire a turnbuckle and 20-30 years maybe longer but we use Clips I've actually forgot how to do it thanks

Even the General Aviation shops I worked at all used clips. But safety wire is always a skill I try to keep in practice.

Looking at AC43.13-1B, Table 7-8 does not allow wire smaller than .040 for turnbuckles. Maybe you're using .032 just for video purposes? If so, it seems you should mention this. I was taught to always start with the data then proceed with the work. Good rule.

Can you do a video on how to safety wire multiple bolts in series.

Saw another video where the guy crosses his safety wire three times coming down the barrel before getting to the eye(s). Seeing the different ways makes me wonder who's doing what, IAW what? All that said (typed), you explanation and demonstration was gtg man. "jeezus" clips for the win,

You should be using AC 43.13-B. For your IAW. However, I have seen certain manufacturers put out their own procedures. The method I used in this video will get past the O&P and is acceptable for most GA installations.

great now I can tear off the mess I made on my turnbuckles last night and do it the right way. how do I know if I need single or double on my ultralight where I can easily visually inspect it
@brycebuildsit Жыл бұрын
For an ultra light, a single wrapp is going to be fine. I only use a double if it's what the manufacturers recommend, which most GA manufacturers do not. Glad the video was helpful

how do I know how tight to make my control cables, ive got the fiber rollers from spruce, it's in my ultralight. I don't have a cable tension checker
@brycebuildsit Жыл бұрын
You will need a tensiometer, I'd see if you can borrow one before buying it.

@@brycebuildsit I only need to adjust my elevator tension on the kolb firestar and the guys at the factory say they make it tight enough so the wires don't slap in the fuse tube. that checker goes for 200 bucks nowadays!

My safety wire doesn’t want to stay nice and tight in the spiral wrap portion. Does this mean I need smaller gauge wire?
@brycebuildsit10 ай бұрын
Not necessarily, it does help if you use a pair of pliers to grab the wire wrapping around the bolt and pull on it wiel you start the twist. Going down in wire size will help, but you want to make sure it's not too small or it won't have the strength to hold the hardware.
