In this episode, you catch up with us arriving in the motorhome at Fortrose Bay Campsite in Fortrose & Rosemarkie, The Black Isle, Scotland. I have always dreamed of seeing the dolphins jumping out of the water at Chanonry Point. We have visited a few times over the last 20 years to try and catch a glimpse of them in their natural habitat. I had heard so many stories about the dolphins coming up very close to the shoreline, but were they true? Was it worth visiting Fortrose? In this video I also take you on a brief tour of Fotrose Bay Campsite. Filmed in July 2023, using basic camera equipment.

This campervan allows us the freedom of travelling in all seasons, we actually do most of our travelling in the Autumn/Winter as I have lupus disease | SLE | We stay on campsites & caravan touring parks, Aires & wild camp out in nature. We like to walk | hike with our cocker spaniel dog "Charlie" taking in breathtaking scenery of the countryside and the coast. There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy. I'm so happy that you saw them. These dolphins really are the best! It brought a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye watching your video. Chanonry Point is such a special place. Our son and daughter in law got married in Inverness registry office years ago and we went to the point for a picnic for the wedding breakfast and watched dolphins. They had timed their wedding so that we would be there for the incoming tide when they come to feed on the fish! You get no sympathy from us for waiting in the cold. Last time we were there it was April and it snowed! Of course it looked more beautiful than ever in the snow but it was so cold my camera froze and was never the same again. We chatted to lovely Charlie, the WDCS guy, and waited and waited and eventually the dolphins turned up, just before we got frostbite:) Thanks for this lovely video guys.

@@vansforthememories We went to visit Fort George a few years ago, which is on the opposite shore and just happened to see then there when we looked over the ramparts. Quite by accident and unplanned. We were very lucky.

Just wonderful!! So glad you got to see them. We were there June 22 - loved every second. You got some brilliant footage Em. We just made it for when the tide turned - a half hour later and we would have missed the show. I honestly think that when they finish feeding they put on a show. It’s almost as if a switch is flicked and they say - ok show time and they just enjoy themselves. Some of them are huge and they get so close to shore. Brilliant Em and Gary. How cool was that!! Congratulations on catching the dolphins up close and personnel like that, been to Chanonry point a few times and saw nothing, frozen solid.. so it is a bit of hit and miss. the car park is a nightmare, and the whole area is lovely but you can see the dolphins other places than Chanonry Point but that is where most folk go. We watched them across the water to InverGordon, near the Harbour. They are such beautiful show offs, well worth watching though, never get tired of seeing them. Take care both xx

I've stayed at Rosemarkie 4 or 5 times and Fortrose once. I always have a walk along to the point and have seen a couple in the distance before but nothing like that. Well worth braving the cold.

Black Isle is another of those places on my must visit list. Maybe later this year... The closest I've got to dolphins was in my little sailing dinghy at Abersoch. We thought that we saw either seals or dolphins, sailed that way and they saw us, came to investigate and ended up swimming alongside, leaping out of the water and diving under the boat. If I hadn't got my hands on the tiller I think that I could have leaned out and touched them. Then they spotted a proper yacht and decided that we were too common for them. It was a bit scary having 15 ft of solid muscle playing with you when your boat is only made out of 3/16 inch ply & 11 ft long while you're about a mile out to sea.

Yes you must, you’d like it 😎 Ahh Abersoch, we holidayed there every year as a child, I had an inflatable dinghy & one time, was out in it on my own with our dog X yorkie x cairn, the tide took it from the close to the beach all the way out to where the yachts are moored 🙈 I was only about 10 😳 I was found by one of the yachtsmen & rescued & my mum n dad were “advised” ooops 😊 Oh wow 🤩 Tony that sounds amazing! Yes I can imagine it would be a bit unnerving , I think I would be thinking of jaws 🦈 🤭 But what an amazing experience! Hope you’re now shingle free. Thanks for watching, Em 💜

The site looked really busy compared to when we went there, although I think we went in the October and saw no dolphins at all. But we did see them pre KZbin days and they were absolutely amazing.
