Which Way To Drive The NC500? East Or West? | Arriving At Brora Camc Site

In this episode, filmed in July 2023 you catch up with us arriving in the motorhome at Brora CAMC site Scotland. In this video I also take you on a brief tour of the campsite at Brora and the surrounding area. We also have a close encounter with a stray golf ball from the nearby Brora Golfcourse!
We then drive along the NC500 from Brora through Helmsdale up to the tip of Scotland and the famous landmark John O' Groats. We really enjoyed the beautiful drive of the East Coast of the NC500, we had glorious sunny weather for it.
Brora CAMC is in a beautiful location, it seems our rogue golf ball incident was an isolated incident. We would return there to stay!

This campervan allows us the freedom of travelling in all seasons, we actually do most of our travelling in the Autumn/Winter as I have lupus disease | SLE | We stay on campsites & caravan touring parks, Aires & wild camp out in nature. We like to walk | hike with our cocker spaniel dog "Charlie" taking in breathtaking scenery of the countryside and the coast. There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy. Well Brora looks really lovely. And we remember the drive down that you went up Couldn’t believe it - we mentioned those big pods on the way to John O’Groats as well. Seem very out of keeping!! And when we got there it was so much more commercialised than we realised. It wasn’t what we imagined at all!! And we didn’t realise how close Orkney was! You had a beautiful day for it though guys. The Brora site is really nice & very peaceful! Its a lovely drive in the right weather, not as dramatic as the west but a charm of its own. Its been many years since we last went to JOG & its certainly got a lot better! There was nothing really there last time we went, one gift shop & not even a cafe! 😂. It is a lovely & peaceful site, I (Em) was furious about the golf ball, not just cos of the van, but it could have twonked any of us on the head. Ah, my favourite road, the Berridale Braes, not as scary as they used to be. Stayed in Brora Caravan site, that was the place we had a grass pitch and they told us no vehicles on the grass. John O'Groats is always such a disappointment lol... Dunnet Bay is lovely though. Thanks for the tour, take care both xx

I know it’s so expensive these days, tbh that was cheaper than most sites as it was in July. 😐 You raise a really good point there about how close those pitches were & at the time we didn’t even think about it, probably because we were not side by side, but that’s definitely not a 6m space between those pitches! How lovely to drive up the A9 in the sunshine. The big skies on that road are amazing. I love it but perhaps because it usually means we're on our way to Orkney 😊 What is the tune you play over the driving? It's very catchy. We've stayed on grass at Brora too. It's a quieter corner of the site but we didn't find any golf balls on our pitch! Thanks for taking me back to Scotland again and summer😊

I know it was actually the 2nd incident we had there, I also almost got twonked by one on the site dog walk 😮 I struggle with hearing & I had ppl screaming “get out the way” 🤪🙈 Thankfully we were leaving that morning, cos I couldn’t relax on that pitch. We overnighted at John O Groats and filmed the aurora while we were asleep lol. How things look different in the sunshine. As for the golf ball, I'd have been peed off too and Karl would have been swearing his head off 😂

Haha I don't blame you! Yes, looks lovely in the sunshine, we were blessed with the weather! I was furious over the golf ball, could have killed one of us! I'd already had a near miss on the dog walk, by one of those golfers! I think someone should have taken up baseball insead of golf! Thanks, Em & G💜

We visited on the way to J O'G Orkney about 5 years ago and there was a lot less there then and, probably because it was mid May, it was a lot quieter. I liked it better then (and not just because it was free in those days) because I go to Scotland to escape commercialism and crowds.

Hi Tony, how are you? Yeah, I know what you mean, I feel the same with most places, however, I think JOG does need to offer something (like it does now) as its such an iconic place. Especially with the many walkers and cyclists doing the LE JOG, its nice to have a bit of an atmosphere there. 😎 It is so much better than it was when we last visited over 15 years ago. @@vansforthememories I'm getting back to match fitness and should be out in the cmper shortly after the family holiday over Easter. I'm concerned that JOG will end up as tacky as Lands End, particularly as the same people own both places. If I'm in Cornwall, I much prefer the Lizard to Lands End.
