I'm very new to Acoustic Guitar, today is practice day #5. I'm trying to follow your step#2, but I don't follow how to produce your notes with just the video and the above notation. Am I trying to go too far too fast? I really enjoy your videos. I was searching for guitar instruction videos in Japanese, since I'm also studying the Japanese language and wanted to work on immersion at the same time. Thank you so much for everything you do for us!! -Tim
My kids are all aspiring guitar players. They live with their mom six days a week. Sundays we have visits that inevitably turn into guitar lessons. I have shoulder length dark hair and wear Lennon glasses. My son said, “Dad, it’s like having an Asian version of you teaching me how to play when you’re not there!” They’re all subscribed to Guitar Wisdom. Thanks, Tomo.

You know what I like about this exercise the most, Tomo San? I like it because it warms my fingers up to practice on my piano. I practice on the keyboard right after this warmup and then I come back to do the guitar practice. 3 months on guitar now and I am starting to know where the notes are on the fretboard. The finger exercise has helped me move faster on the fretboard.

Great routine. I get up every morning at 04:00 and do what I call my Morning Mechanics. Slur studies, arpeggio studies, left hand coordination and stretching (carlevaro). Then go,to,electric for legato routine, cross string picking routine. About 90 minutes total. All very slowly with metronome for accuracy. Morning Mechanics is not about speed at that moment. Then when I get home from my job all have to practice is whatever classical or electric repertoire I’m working on.

Haha I'm a singer and songwriter but I'm getting back into guitar, it's interesting since I always internalize all the possible melodic runs in a progression and I feel the general placements of notes on the fretboard. I started guitar back in Middle School (At the academy Classical Guitar was a required class, loved it) but had a large amount of years until after graduation from High School (Family found work and so I had to move from school to school), but now I'm back on with a classical guitar! (wasn't able to get a guitar but we did have a keyboard haha!), I did sing during my highschool years though and my mother (retired ensemble singer, helped me progress vocally), I really enjoy the vocal qualities of the guitar, vibrato and whatnot -- a beautiful instrument! I think that learning how to produce (Audio engineering and creative process) as well as composition and songwriting has some effects on my playing as well! In any event, I came across your channel some months ago through a mutual friend and Blues Rock Guitarist out of Kyoto, Masa! I've seen you spring up in the comments of Rick Beato as well haha. I'm sure I'll have an adjustment period to using an electric, but I think I'll find the thinner neck welcoming, even with my 9-inch hands shapes can be awkward further down the fretboard

Yes, thank you, Tomo. I'm an intermediate guitar player, i have fairly good technique, can improvise fairly well with chords, fills, triads, double stops, etc. But, I've noticed that sometimes my playing gets sloppy, and I'm making too much noise while I'm playing. This usually happens when I'm playing fast. So, i go back to basics, and start practicing them. Thank you for these exercises! They will serve me well. Better than the scales I've been playing. 👍 👌 🤪

Mr.Fujita my name is Rob and I started playing about 15 years ago at the age of 40yrs. old. I love music, in general and I wanted to use it to help me quit smoking. In the hopes it would keep my hands busy and my mind occupied. Well, I'm happy to say it worked for me as I have been smoke free since then and I have learned to play guitar. (well somewhat) Like many others didn't have a teacher and I didn't know how much I was going to love to play - I turned to the internet and found Justin to teach me some chords. I now have a good sized collection of songs to play for fun which I share on my channel, my way of giving back. I feel my strumming skills are the strongest, I enjoy finger picking (not too bad, although arthritis is setting in my middle finger) but I fall apart when it comes to flat picking. I pick with my fingers (most of the time) like I'm playing a bass guitar. I will try this routine and see if I can a build a good foundation so I can start soloing. The end goal, being able to hybrid pick - because I don't know how much mobility I will have in the future. I follow a wonderful young player named Corey Heuvel (KZbin) who has really inspired me to keep playing. Everyone hits roadblocks in their journey, I need to get past this. Now that I have found you (and know a bit about you) I have a feeling with some patients and your help I will get past this. Thanks for posting your content. We all need inspiration in our lives, a good reason to get out of bed in the morning. lol

@@TomoFujitaMusic I'm honored, I really wasn't expecting a reply, just knowing that you actually read it would have been good enough for me (that's what I'm used to). I appreciate the acknowledgement. I remember when I was a greenhorn I knew nothing. So I'm glad to have made something for people to go and jam a bit and practice to the music. It's not perfection mind you, but I think beginners can get some serious mileage from it. It's all in good karma. I used to have a full song listing in the discussion section but KZbin took that away. I guess I'm not big enough.

Thanks Tomu for a great practice routine. Short and simple. Better to practice everyday for a short period of time then every once in a while. And for all you new guitar players out there I strongly recommend you use a metronome. I have a free one loaded on my cell phone. If you play loud and can't hear the metronome through your cell phone speaker use a simple bud type wired or wireless headphone set and only use one bud. This way you can hear your guitar with one ear and the metronome with the other. BTW the second shuffle exercise will teach you to count measures. After all it's a 12 bar blues shuffle.

I took 30-day challenge to do this everyday. I warmly encourage you to try it. The first exercise chromatic is very difficult to do on electric with loud amp, bridge pickup, all treble. I’m serious try it. I hear so much noise when I started. Need perfect rh/lh synchronization. And when you hear noise …. Go slower. Light touch. Omg. Humbling!!!

@@TomoFujitaMusic I took this seriously enough to do it every day for 2 months now. Just 10-15 min per day. (Actually, I did only 3 exercises every day... 1. Chromatic, 2. Crazy chromatic, and 3. Bb Blues from other lessons). I turn up my amp a little bit loud, high treble amp setting, no reverb or tremolo, guitar on 100% treble and bridge pickup ... so I can hear everything good and bad. Just try to play slow and nice every day. So far result is very good. I am very happy with the return on this small 10-min/pay investment. Because now .... my touch is so much lighter on both hands. Very light touch. When I go back to play all my old songs ... I feel "why am I pressing so hard?" "why am I making noise?" "be more relaxed, light touch") and I can play more relaxed now. Everything relaxed, lighter and easier. These exercises help me "feel" what proper relaxed guitar technique "feels" like. Then I try to feel like that in everything I play. Thank you! (I am TFGW student too. :-) )

These videos are so great, I wish I had this as a beginner, very high value stuff that most of us overlook. Imagine starting with this content, I used to give myself exercises to build muscle and muscle-memory, but this is a lot more diligent and purposeful. Thank you Tomo!

In a way this is very basic, as in understandable, but still opening up new ideas for someone (me) who is moderately capable with chords, positions, and scales. Thanks.

Similar to Tomo's chromatic scale practice, I'd recommend doing the "spider walk" along with a metronome at like 65 bpm. It helps build dexterity and picking ability similar to Tomo's example, but it's sort of a bit of a step up from the chromatic scale as you play fret by fret, string by string, both vertically and horizontally. It doesn't sound very musical but it works wonders if you feel your hands are "too small" which is a major misconception beginners have, it's just your hands aren't dexterous when it comes to playing, very similar to handwriting.

If this idea came from players... I am not sure how good to normal people...

@@TomoFujitaMusic your practice works perfectly, I've been playing roughly two years and the spider walk helped my dexterity tremendously. I enjoy your practice routine more as it's more musical than the spider walk. Also thanks for responding to every comment I've made on your channel, now I can brag to my friends I've talked to the guy that taught at Berkeley and jammed with John Mayer lol.
