I agree with the doctor to some extent, but not entirely. I initially adopted a zero-oil diet and noticed a significant lack of lubrication in my body, which felt like a clear deficiency. Similarly, while moderation is key, a blanket approach of eliminating all fats or meat isn’t necessary for everyone. If you have very high cholesterol or triglycerides, it's important to reduce meat and oil intake, but completely eliminating them may not be necessary. Balance is crucial.

Claim: "Indians are genetically prone to develop more cholesterol, more triglyceride, blood pressure, sugar... If your family has a history of heart disease, it means their liver produces double cholesterol." Fact Check Needed: While genetics play a role in heart health, this statement is oversimplified and potentially harmful. It risks stereotyping and may discourage individuals from taking responsibility for lifestyle factors. Individual risk varies greatly. Potential Correction: "Genetics can influence heart health, and family history is a risk factor. However, lifestyle plays a significant role. It's essential to get individual assessments and not rely on generalizations." Claim: "Oil has no taste... Cooking with water is the best option... All oils are the same, they are just triglycerides." Fact Check Needed: Oils do have taste, and different oils have different nutritional profiles. While reducing oil intake is generally beneficial for heart health, completely eliminating oils could lead to nutrient deficiencies. Potential Correction: "Reducing oil intake is beneficial for heart health. Choose healthy oils in moderation and explore cooking methods that minimize oil use. Consult a nutritionist for personalized advice." Claim: "Statins should be given to anyone with high cholesterol... Side effects are rare and only at high doses not used in India." Fact Check Needed: Statin prescriptions should be individualized based on risk factors and potential side effects, which can occur even at lower doses. Potential Correction: "Statins can be an effective treatment for high cholesterol and heart disease prevention, but the decision to prescribe them should be made in consultation with a doctor, considering individual risk factors and potential side effects." Claim: "You can dissolve a heart attack clot by chewing and swallowing two aspirin (325 mg), two clopidogrel, and a statin (80 mg atorvastatin)." Fact Check Needed: This is extremely dangerous advice. While these medications have a role in heart attack treatment, self-medicating during a heart attack can be fatal. Potential Correction: "Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect a heart attack. Do not attempt to treat it yourself." Contradict prevailing medical consensus: Some of Dr. Chhajer's claims, such as the universal nature of all oils or the minimal side effects of statins, differ from widely accepted medical understanding. Offer simplified solutions to complex problems: Heart disease is multifaceted, and suggesting a single solution like eliminating all oils or taking a specific combination of pills oversimplifies the issue. Could potentially be harmful if misapplied: The advice on self-treating a heart attack with specific medications is particularly concerning, as it could lead to delayed medical attention and serious consequences. Respecting Expertise While Seeking Further Verification: It is important to acknowledge Dr. Chhajer's experience and expertise in treating heart patients. He has clearly dedicated his career to helping people and exploring alternative approaches. However, this doesn't mean every statement should be taken as absolute truth without further investigation.

Here me out guys: Although I agree with the doctor on how an unhealthy lifestyle can eventually contribute to your risk of heart attacks, a few pointers that just don't fit the bill: 1. The doctor has not mentioned about the benefits of a balanced diet, rather negating the consumption of meats completely. 2. Red meat and organs provide a rich source of vitamins that a plant based diet alone cannot provide in nature. Bone broths and soups also brings strength to the body. 3. We are born Omnivores for a reason. You can't blame the meats for that matter as it's the method of preparing and the quantity of consumption that leads to your basic problems. People living in Blue Zone areas incorporate meat to their diets but in moderation rather than eliminating it altogether. 4. Lack of excercise and poor eating choices have led to health decline over the years so as a doctor, it is your duty to explain the benefits of a balanced healthy diet and not be biased towards if you chose to be termed a vegetarian. 5. Moderation is key guys.Too much of anything is too bad. Although this interview is about preventing the builtup of excessive cholestrol over bad practices, and the caution to take After or during diagnosis of a possible built up, I feel the doctor should not have a bias take on veggies vs meats.
