I've definitely used something like this before in dussack (a short sword used in HEMA.) Very similar to kali/escrima, so I used what I could from the DBMA videos I have watched, and faking high-- then changing level to hit the leg instead is one of the things I absorbed. Man, is it cool to see something taught that you've already pulled off! Go try it out, people.

Great video and yes I want more kali and I have a question at what point does kali either unrealistically work in a street fight or to train.
@metrolinamartialarts

There's a line it crosses on utility versus endless drilling for attributes that never arise. Stick vs Stick is more of a Duel. Knife vs Knife is in the middle - can be a duel and could be self defense. Knive vs Empty Hand is self defense.

I'd still love to see a Kali footwork video! Never quite understood it from other videos. OFC I suppose it's only important to learn if it's any good haha. Great content! Looking forward to more Kali stuff!

That's an interesting topic. 🤔 Kali has some interesting footwork but I think they all exist across arts. There are special ones which maybe I can highlight

My instructor is also a hand hunter, more for reminding us to be mindful about form, but he can smash hands like no other. And we use the padded actionflex Escrima sticks.

Firstly, yay I'm early! Secondly, as well as a faint, a strike to the hands can come after blade contact e.g. striking down, the opponent parrying, and striking up to the hands. Or, you can simply strike upwards to the hands anyway. Historically this was called a "Hellish Quart (Forth)" or simply "The Turkish Cut" because it was an upwards cut that was difficult to parry. Alternatively, hand snipping can happen where you pick the right moment without attacking when the opponent's hands are evident. This is seen as fo par in HEMA tournaments because it's an easy target, but if you have to hit the hands, you gotta hit the hands.

We mainly strike to hands to disarm! It's a ton of fun to train lol Thanks for watching and all the HEMA background!

Funny story, I had an operation on my left shoulder and some nerves were damaged so it kind of has a mind of its own. I mean I think it's going where I am aiming , but then suddenly it just takes off like an untrained puppy. Consequently pretty much all my students have had at least one fractured finger . It got to the point nobody wanted to do sticks with me anymore . Tick tick tick tick tick THUD tick tick tick....so they all pitched in to buy me padded sticks. How sweet.

That's yet another thing I love about your videos, Sir Eddington Esquire. You often also focus on the Martial *ARTS* and not so serious about "OH SELF DEFENSE REALISTIC!?!!?" Since ya know, I mean--we all know--Kali (or JKD) aren't the best for "realistic self defense." BUT! I absolutely *LOVE THEM* and would *LOVE* to see more videos on both. Ya know...after you move back to where your mom was born. *Haha* yes I had to slip that in there.

Even with my silliness, I still stand by my vote for more Kali and JKD! I don't know what's with other Kali and JKD videos, but yours always seem produced better and are just more enjoyable. Might be that handsome face we're all looking at. 😍
