KIMERA KOLORS are available right now here for purchase: www.pegasoworld.com/product-category/bases-accessories/kimera-kimera-kolors/ In the video I forgot to explain why saturating the lights with a green works well for gold nmm. The sky is blue, the gold is yellowish on the lights, if you combine the sky reflection with the local color of the gold you obtain what? A greenish reflection.

After the last one I really feel like this is sort of cheating to find out there for free, they're so very well explained which turns a short YT vid into an actual effective tutorial. Riccardo paints stunning art, once the green went on and the NMM was against a backdrop it lit up, then he started on the steel and my jaw actually dropped. Practice, practice, practice is a genuine requirement for NMM but I look at the result he made and I then think about how much better I understand what he did and why, to accomplish it just from watching a 25min vid. Wow

Thank you :) The explanation on why is actually the reason behind all these video. I'm glad you enjoyed.

@@kimeramodels I am still coming back to this, and painted some NMM gold in as close to this style as I could today. I have a new question; it seems you do not go all the way to a white highlight on the gold and I wondered why not, it seems like most NMM gold I have seen includes a final tiny white highlight in the brightest places. This is not present in this tutorial and I wondered what the rationale is, though I admit it looks amazing without any pure white! I am debating whether to do some final tiny white highlights on the mini I painted in this style.

@@caseyfrechette I reserve pure white for silvers. Gold never reflects pure white in real life, so that's why i don't do it. When you put a pure white on gold, it tends to desaturate the overall effect. That's why i usually end up glazing the last lights with a saturated color (for example Green Gold)

@@kimeramodels Thanks so much for your answer! I was going to add pure white and I hesitated. I looked at my gold for two days after the green glazed, and watched your video again and again, and I thought that white might desaturate that nice effect, til finally I thought to just ask you!

@@kimeramodels I can't speak to what gets likes and views; but just speaking purely as someone who consumes a lot of painting content, the NMM here has more steps than most tutorials I think, you are teaching some more advanced techniques that are not easy to break down into simple steps, and it might be a smaller audience too who is here for to push our limits. Thinking by comparison of Angel Giraldez, Juan Hidalgo, Don Suratos, Ninjon, who have all made videos on basics of NMM. Don Suratos basic NMM video for instance does it in only five steps, which makes the process easy to understand, and I do love his videos and plenty to learn there too! But I will go as far down the NMM rabbit hole as you will take me. :)
@kimeramodels
@kimeramodels Жыл бұрын
@@caseyfrechette Thank you very much. This one is a "basic" NMM actually, because the complex ones can be extremely complex. So from what you say i gather that i actually should do a simpler version than this video to serve as an introduction and then a more complex version than this video to push it even further. I was actually thinking of doing a NMM space marine at some point, since those are very common and it would help people to understand surfaces... I'll think about it.

@@kimeramodels I'm honored to hear from you! To me this was a bit more advanced than most of what I have seen. I would watch any content you offer here, and probably watch it many times. All of your videos here have been so helpful to me. I learned from this one that I was using the right colors with my oranges and bright yellowgreens, but that I needed to glaze them more thin and careful, and the filter trick with the golden greenyellow is something I am working up the nerve to try. Space marines are a good choice because so many people paint them, even if you are not doing an army they are great to study and learn light placements and probably every mini painter paints plenty of them, and everyone can get a few fairly easily. I don't have an Asteria mini yet but I look forward to painting one. The vidoes to help with mixing and the recent one on limited palette were also of great use. I want to say too that I love that even though this is the Kimera channel, you show the uses of many great paints by other brands too. I noticed some your scale75 brush, same one I have from my scale artist sets. I am sure everyone trying to paint on a high level uses a diverse array of products, even if the pure pigment power of Kimera is an unmatched and incredible tool and we all know it. Apologies for gushing and ranting, but can't express enough my appreciation for your work and tutorials, thanks so much for them and please keep up the great work!

Thank you very much for your comments, it's really a good morale boost to read these things. Making videos is hard and seeing people appreciate them is the fuel to keep going. I actually don't gain anything from these videos and i do them in my spare time only because i like to help out. So this is the best reward!

These tutorials are great. In the expansion set of the Kimera Kolors, there is a guide to gold NMM. I tried that one and it was hard to not end up with a too yellow mix, or too white in the highlights and still getting enough contrast. Definately takes some practice. Not many other tutorials talk about glossy dark paints. I don´t own any glossy paints, maybe I should get some. Inks are a bit glossy, what do you think about for exampel liquitex inks for shadows? And could you use a glossy medium to mix with a matte paint for shadows?
@kimeramodels
@kimeramodels Жыл бұрын
Inks are very good for saturated glossy shadows. I use them. Also satin medium or any glossy medium + a matte paint can work too. That w&n color is very nice for shadows, i use it a lot, sadly though is discontinued so it's a bit hard to find. But you can always use the other two methods. You can also mix inks with matte paints to have a less liquid consistency and still get the same result.

I’ve come to the conclusion that NMM is entirely intuitive and not even a little bit formulaic. This is a great video but I think I’ll never have this level of intuition on this subject.

It's not true, in my classes I explain all the reasoning behind and how to even calculate the points of reflection. Problem is that it takes a class of 6 hours to begin with so I couldn't explain it in a video. But maybe I can do another one in the future going even more in depth
