Thank you for the video, i didn't know i could use the satin medium or the matte varnish in that way. Have you thought about linking old/ other videos in the video when you talk about them? There's an option to do so. That ak teal colour you're using at 7:35, is that gen3? I've been looking for that colour
@kimeramodelsКүн бұрын
Yes it’s gen3. I ordered it through their website actually. As for linking I put it in the description anyway, I’ll look for the option to linking it on screen but the other times I tried it didn’t work well for some reason.

when u mix ultra matt varnish into the paint that makes the paint layer more durable, right? would u still varnish after that to protect the paintjob?
@kimeramodels5 күн бұрын
I never varnish. If you varnish you lose all the differences in glossiness of the different materials you paint. This is for collector level pieces, if you paint for gaming it’s very different and most of this video is useless for that. In the case of gaming you would want to varnish, probably satin or matte first and then a second layer of satin.
@highlordalcadizakyr14795 күн бұрын
@@kimeramodels i always varnish at the end, but i varnish by hand and every piece different depenting on the material its supposed to be, i thought i could skip this step :D
@kimeramodels5 күн бұрын
If you want to do that, it could work yes. Takes a bit of time. Also varnish tend to yellow over time, be mindful of that

17:32 I have the Golden flow improver and am curious how it compares to your favorite you showed here. Have you ever tried it?
@kimeramodels5 күн бұрын

@Wijkert5 күн бұрын
@kimeramodels fair enough
@ricardoflummiremus2 күн бұрын
They are pretty much the same except the golden is much more stronger so you need like 2-4 drops compared to Winsor newton where you need maybe 6. And also the golden is less sticky when dried, which always happens with flow improver because of the “dish soap” which always sticks kinda. Hope it helps and greetings from germany
@Wijkert5 күн бұрын
7:17 like you suggested I use ultra matt varnish to thin glossy paints like inks for airbrush or brush glazing so I can better tell what I am doing.
@Wijkert5 күн бұрын
I have found that you guys satin medium can be more or equally glossy than other manufacturers glossy medium. 5:42 here Kimera's satin medium looks more glossy too. Could that also because of the amount you used? Edit: you mentioned afterwards that the satin medium can be pretty strong in it's effect
@kimeramodels5 күн бұрын
Yes it depends on amount, I used more than the glossy medium. It’s easy to overload because of the thickness

This is a great video. I've been hobby modeling for some time but want to get my hands on painting figures and mini's. I have some knowledge on different dilutions and their uses. But how you describe the way the paint behaves and moves on the wet palette really helps me understand better that I am getting the correct dilution for the situation. Before I was somewhat guessing.

Contemplating this expansion set v the original set for historical ancients. These colousrs look more useful to me but the lack of black and white are an issue. I'm wondering about using my existing white, Pro Acryl and my black by Reaper , to mix w these Kimera paints. Anyone with experience and advice on this ?

how do you create palette where paints are more fluid or watery? m using regress palette with their papers and Kimera paints are more like "heavy body" on that paper
@kimeramodelsАй бұрын
The palette in this video if I’m not mistaken is the redgrass. Thing is I simply added some water by picking the paints with a brush from the bottle to be faster, brush that was a bit wet in the first place. It doesn’t change a thing or if anything it was worse, but I did it to be faster on video not for any painting purposes

Camo green, like the other olive-drab colors, is actually not a green, but a dark yellow; you can see this in a computer paint program by starting with a pure yellow and turning down the luminance; the color will turn drab and approach an olive color, from which it can be tinted to shift the color. The interior protective color "zinc chromate green" is actually a bright yellow with a slight tinge of green to which carbon black has been added to make the coating more durable; this shifts the color to a variety of green-to-olive shades depending on the amount of carbon black added by the manufacturer. It's kind of counterintuitive that you make an "OD green" color without any green in it at all, but that's how your eye works.

True yes. Black acts as a blue too, since it’s often an ivory black with a bias towards the blue.

@@LuisMoreno-sl1zt We agree to disagree. I like both, and the way the hair is done is exactly how Vinnie does it. I do not care who did it first, or who is "better" - only very narrow minded people cannot look beyond the borders of their own limited preferences. And limit theirselves and the huge amount of joy that is waiting for us in this wonderful hobby. Have a great day, friend.
