I'm a privileged class and gave up on my Brahminism and happened to be lucky that my family supported it. More often than not, I get astonished when people talk about meritocracy without acknowledging their privilege! I did my higher education in Chennai and could see first hand how higher reservation (69%) has benefited the state and its people. I guess the only way it can go when intercaste marriage becomes a norm and surname goes away. That was I like the sytem in South where they use their father's or mother's first name as their last name! P.S. My sister married to a SC guy (from her workplace) and was surprised to learn that my religious parents (I'm an atheist) did not have any issue with it and realized how progressive they were. They are not anymore. So, thank you that you two from privileged backgrounds are discussing this issue. I really liked the fact that the doctor spoke about disabling privilege and that's the only way to create an egalitarian society!

Sanjay was bang on when he talked about the guilt and anxiety that comes after one from the privileged caste startes to educate themselves about caste and the atrocities committed under its name. Ever since I've read Annihilation of caste by Dr. Ambedkar, my lens of viewing the society has been tainted and rightfully so. I hope to read more and more about caste atrocities and break walls of caste immobility by engaging in active conversations with members of the disadvantaged castes and making my social circle more inclusive.

I read in Facebook from an ambedkarite person that a sayyad/ashraf MP approaches Babasaheb to take up Islam as his religion since he had announced that he was going to renounce Hinduism.Babasaheb was well aware of the issue of casteism in Indian Islam then or the castes practices among Indian Muslims, much like brahmin savarnas few upper castes control other lower caste Muslims. So Babasaheb asks that ashraf Muslim MP as to 'which caste would he place him (Babasaheb) in once he embraces Islam?'. This ashraf Muslim MP had no answer and had to return empty handed. So this is the issue and reason why Babasaheb rejected Indian Islam, precisely because of Casteism, it is riddled with similar Brahmanism as so called Hindu religion.

The issue is unveiled in a very critical manner. Although this almost constitutes to the 50% of the problem as the oppressors and the oppressed keep on being reversed in other parts of the country. Distribution of money, credentials, education and privileges has got nothing much to do with the caste and community. Because concerning my state Maharashtra, everyone has got both cards of the perpetrators and the victims, equally usable in the system. Would love to have a direct conversation. This topic and the angle of discussion is welcome but again all India doesn't go through the same issues of casteism, for example in Bengal we don't see casteism as we see in the Hindi heartland, may be north east is also different, casteism in South is different in dimension from North. of all these points you there is also a point of identity deeply rooted in hindu culture and its history why some are different from other the constant of being a proud jaat , rajput, brahmin the pride that is associated with being from a varna or caste is deeply ingrained the social conditioning like an baniya will be good at business etc .... these things result in inferiority of lower castes and mental trauma as being not on equal social platform than , a rich dalit faces more mental trauma than discrimination , i think the acknowledgment and taking pride in ones caste is it self casteism. now i am 100% sure you are randomly commenting or trolling with not even an iota of knowledge ,its fine you have your thinking but caste is a truth of present ...what was in past just serves as foundation of present and these topics are studied , debated to make the society more egalitarian and reformed.. yes in early period there was varna system and easy migration of people from one varna to other was possible but over a course of time varna system turned rigid and the presence of multiple caste itself rose from varna system ...During the early vedic age there were more pastural society so 4 varnas sufficed but when civilization developed it turned rigid we need more people for different occupations like a boat driver , leather worker and also manual scavenging came into existence because humans started living in closed cities , yes an outlook of class also plays but it is not the only factor ,RELIGION , foreign invasion and other factors also came into play and thus we reached present state outright denial of some ones suffering is cruelty as a society discussion and debate are necessary of wellbeing of everyone.

Is labour from Brahmin caste and Scheduled caste is different wages working on same place. If not then what was privileged. Schedule caste got Reservation, Scholarship,. Law to protect them. In this senerio Schedule caste got more benefit. Now all have equality. Is really 3% Brahim doing atrocities on 17% SC and 9% St . Is this really possible.

The term Caste originated from latin language & widely practiced in Europe but brutally imposed on all the colonial lands, in Spanish colonial lands it was called "Casta". Varna system is mentioned in a hymn in rigveda, it was consolidated as a system through various other authoritative texts. For example manusmriti very extensively talks about varnas and related privileges to so called “upper castes” and extreme punishments and hence disadvantages to so called “lower caste groups” Varna system got very rigid in Gupta period although this journey of rigidity had started a few centuries earlier.

Yeah, I got you. Caste is cancer, while reservation is a treatment. It was diagnosed that caste is the reason that equal opportunities are not given to more than half of the population of the country. That's why the reservation is caste based and will remain so until caste, casteism and casteist exist. Now as per your logic, the single problem with the cancer based treatment is that it is cancer based (perhaps it should be diabetes based), which means that the one thing it does very well is to ensure that cancer disease itself remains alive & thriving and if we stop treating it then there will be no cancer. First of all let me say that caste discrimination is just evil and should be annihilated, to all those general class ppl who think inter caste marriages are wrong, blah ,blah just get lost. , The issue that pisses of ‘upper’ castes is not that they are called out for their privilege. It’s abt how their hard work is overlooked and their success is attributed to them being born in an upper caste. Most upper castes are born in middle class households. Are they better off than ppl born in slums? Absolutely. Do they face caste discrimination? Nope. But is their life all sunshine’s and rainbows? Also no. If you are born in a middle class family, you have to be at the top of your game constantly if you are to get into good clgs and jobs. If you didn’t get into a good clg, parents nearly bankrupt themselves trying to fund their studies, or they take heavy loans. And also as an individual, no one wants to depend on their parents money, everyone wants to be self made and be as independent as possible. So there’s that aspect to it as well…so in this context, so after all this, your hardwork and success is just attributed to privilege coz you didn’t suffer as much as a Dalit. What is this struggle olympics? The general discourse around upper caste is very non empathetic, you label them ‘oppressors’ just coz of their birth. Also t as if they have to live their entire lives guilt tripping. Just show some compassion to general class ppl who don’t support casteism. They may not be struggling as much as others, but everyone has their own individual personal and family problems. You can acknowledge the struggle of both, upper caste ppl were left out of reservations as it’s assumed they can manage through their privilege, and when they do that, they are shamed for it. It’s not as black and white as you make it sound and being middle class in india is not paradise too, yeah, much better than 90% of ppl, tomorrow is secured, but the day after is not.
