That was then, now is now. Technology allows governments to monitor civilians on a scale that colonial age empires couldn't even dream of. The American and French revolutions also had a number of strategic circumstances that all culminated together to facilitate a successful revolutionary movement. Consider this, during the American revolution, the British were extremely far away and thus unable to reinforce or resupply as quickly as colonial America. Furthermore, the French helped support the colonists. During the French revolution the monarchy was broke and helplessly inept. Things didn't even turn out that well shortly after overthrowing the king, with a vicious period of paranoia inflicted executions followed by Napoleon.

Charge the cops, all of them, and prison sentences commensurate with the injustice. Let's start with that. And then sweeping changes across the police force to reduce the violence they inflict on black people and create ACTUAL ACCOUNTABILITY instead of their ridiculous citizen complaint's offices which never do more than give them verbal "reprimands" for complaints even when the complaints are about brutality and excessive force. Black people have been asking for the same exact thing for decades, peacefully marching has got us NOWHERE..

I mean Hong Kong's protest from my understanding had nothing to do with the U.S. I think at least. It was Britan who won and got Hong Kong in the First Opium War and kept it for a time and then handed it over to China in 1997 and they promised life wouldn't change for them for 50 years which is why the protests are happening because China cut their time short.

When there were no violent protests in the United States, the United States said that violent protests in Hong Kong were a beautiful landscape, and they condemned the Hong Kong police. What people fail to realize is that yes MLK was able to carry out peaceful protests but that doesn’t underscore the impact of people like Malcom X who found the use of violence to be crucial in a point of desperation. If the American people didn’t believe in violent protest, we wouldn’t be provided the right to form a militia.
@Vince_theStormChaser
@Vince_theStormChaser 11 ай бұрын
1. What YOU failed to realize is that it does somewhat underscores the use of violence. It’s almost like you haven’t read the research on nonviolent resistance and violent resistance. I shouldn’t shocked by this since people like you aren’t intellectually honest. LITERALLY NONVIOLENCE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE THAT VIOLENCE BY 2 TO 1. 2. The right to form a militia is more tied to the Second Amendment and the country’s historical context than an endorsement of violent protests as a preferred means of social change. 1. Also, using the second amendment and associating the right to form a militia with a justification for violent protest oversimplifies the complexities of constitutional interpretation and historical context that often surrounds the Second Amendment. 4. Do your research!!!!! Stop trying to use Malcom X as an excuse to use violence. Because what you will find out either the easy way or the hard way is that violence will only give the government an excuse to slaughter people like you. Do you honestly think that a government like the US doesn’t have a well organized and coordinated plan (let alone the resources) to repress any violent extremism that may arise???? If for some chance you do, then ask yourself these big questions: What type of violence are you gonna do?; And to what end?; If the violence starts, you don’t you think the government is gonna have A LOT MORE FIREPOWER than you or whatever extremist group you’re are a part of? At what coast are you willing to pay?; And what if your answer is ANY, then what does that say about you and your morality? What does that say about your character that you’re willing to allow countless to get slaughtered in order to achieve the end results? And another major question to ask yourself: If the violent resistance fails and hundreds of thousands are killed as a result, how will you explain this senseless violence to the judge when it is your time in court, and how will you explain this to society? Without asking yourself these questions, you should not even think about taking arms against a government? But chances are that you that the government can’t represent these types of resistances, so perhaps you’re not gonna consider the ramifications/ repercussions.

I’ve participated in two violent protests. One in China hurling rocks to a Japanese-brand mall amid the Japanese occupation of an controversial island, another in Paris as the biggest yellow vest protest where we destroyed Champs-Élysées and burned Arc de Triomphe. I’d say both times we succeeded: the mall closed for more than 3 months and the French president halts his controversial policy launch. I guess you forgotten about 2014 Ukraine coup backed by our US tax dollars of $5 billion that funded the Maidan Party as a few key members from the US State Dept. were not shy to admit it and of course under the guise of Pro-Democracy when in fact Ukraine was a Moderate Democracy government and the only difference that Ukraine's President was Pro-Russia and not on board with the US/EU/NATO accord and cut ties from Russia to favor the west that would follow a EU membership and to establish a US/NATO presence in Ukraine that would also complete the Bush's Missile Defense Shield System that requires 3 nations being Poland, Czech Republic, and Ukraine to have a complete operating component system... There were also US government contracted mercenaries on the ground in Ukraine as there is video evidence uploaded to KZbin by local media press and hearing the voices and threats from this mercs was clearly American... The Maidan Nationalist protesters had taken Ukraine by force that was backed by US foreign interests and ousted the democratically elected president... Obama threatened the government of Ukraine not to interfere nor harm the protesters and allow the 'peaceful' protest of the people... the world saw the end result of murder and mayhem of Ethnic Russians and Pro-Russian Ukrainians! Gee, all of that money that was given to the Interim government of Ukraine coming support funding from several countries and even IMF loans as that ended up disappearing to the corrupt officials and they are broke and Poroshenko failed to get more money but managed to get military aid support from NATO and the US... the newly elected President Zelensky is again asking for a new IMF load when they cannot pay back the other loans given and is seeking business trade deals and investment with other nations to get out of the black-hole of debt among other domestic problems Ukraine is suffering besides still waging their war against 2 self proclaimed Republics of Donbas and Lugansk!

@Teringventje Yes, you are absolutely right! China is an authoritarian government that can sound very bellicose, we lose the freedom and the media is brainwashing the people. And they are so fool that they even didn`t realize that.

Martin Luther King Jr talked about the 4 steps to a non violent resistance in a letter when he was locked up in Birmingham jail. 1)Check the facts to determine if there is injustice. 2)try to negotiate 3) self purification, which means are you willing to fight your inner demons urge to give up or retaliate before he can fight the unjust society? And lastly 4) direct action.

One can be persuaded by reason but not by force. Rioters have lost, they should backdown, think about what they actually want to achieve, and try again peacefully in a few years with an actual reform proposal

so what's the protest purpose in HK? to get independence? that's impossible, if things go into that way, i think military intevention is necessary, and there is already a PLA's Hong Kong garrison in HK; to stop the extradition bill? the bill has been already cancelled, so what's exactly the protest's purpose now? i can't get it.

There are protests for fair elections every Saturday in Moscow. Imagine your representative is not even let to be in the ballot. That’s how bad it is. And the most violent thing was that someone threw a coffee cup... The police acts violently. They broke a leg, punched a woman in stomach and gave a head injury to a candidate.
