You may have thought that something that is free may not be what it seems, and while you think you are going to win, you lose. Let's see when this can happen so you can avoid it. A few years ago there was a scientific experiment. The researchers bought expensive chocolates at a cost of 30 cents each and cheap chocolates at 2 cents each. They put them on a counter and started selling them in a crowded place. All the sign said was that chocolate bars were for sale, but "customers" could only take one. Investigators they set the price of the expensive chocolates at 15 cents, that is half the money of what they bought, and at the cheap chocolates 1 cents, that is half again.
As we know, signs with the inscription "chocolates" attract people, who soon started buying the chocolates. Quite rightly, the "customers" discovered a very good offer. They found that they can earn 15 cents if they buy the expensive chocolates. So on that day 73% of the customers bought the expensive chocolates at half the price of what the researchers bought them for. A very good one special offer. Most people realized that the money they were making by buying the expensive chocolates was much more than what they would have made by buying the cheap chocolates.
The next day, the researchers set up the counter again, but this time they decided to lower the price of both chocolate bars by one cent. So they said that the price of the expensive chocolates is now 14 cents, which is an even bigger profit than the day before, and the price of the cheap chocolates became 0, meaning they were giving them away for free. In fact, the customer had a choice between a very good quality bar which he could get very cheaply and a bar which was of poor quality but which he could get for free.
In fact the balances compared to the previous day had not changed. The big profit was again in the expensive chocolates. Logically, the same should have happened the day before. But exactly the opposite happened! In this case customers chose the free cheap chocolate bar and missed the opportunity to buy a quality chocolate bar for less money. 69% of of customers that day preferred the cheap chocolate, reversing yesterday's "sales"!
It seems that when we see the inscription "free" the product becomes irresistible! After all, you can't go broke when you buy something without paying anything. But is it so? Especially in our diet it is often not like that. Just as the customers of the experiment have the opportunity to choose only one bar of chocolate, so the food we can eat is past. Every time we choose a poor quality food justifying to ourselves that it is cheap or free, we miss the opportunity to eat something quality that is good for our health. With this experiment I'm not trying to convince you to buy expensive food products, but think next to me before buying something that you wouldn't buy just because the second product comes "free". If you have been meaning to buy this food, then you should definitely buy it. It's a good idea to fill the cart with it too! It's an opportunity. But if you don't want to buy it because you know it's something of very low quality, but now you find it attractive because with this you can get "for free" something equally useless or of low quality, think twice before proceeding with this purchase. You buy it because you're getting something worthless yet, or because it's really worth it.
In addition to the "free" ones, you should also be very careful with products that say they are "diet". As shown in scientific studies, choosing them does the opposite of what they promise to do.
