Think of it this way: You bought a car 20 years ago. Over the years, you replaced every single part on the car until none of the original parts are present. You still have a car. It might even look the same. However, the truth is, you now have a completely different car. Our bodies go through this process naturally. You are, quite literally, a different person than you were 20 years ago (if you're at least that old). There is no permanent self.

Why is it necessary to claim that there is no permanent self if there is indeed no permanent self?

There is one sentence that encompasses this video in one. "There is no permanent unchanging self." All the answers to this question are right there. And thank you for clearing up something that is always lost in translation in western thoughts of buddhism.

There's no self Because all organisms are being reborn because of the mind desire that create manifestation to the universe We are in simulation of "self" There's no "me""I""mine""I'm" Only hormones, 6 senses, chemical reactions to the brain, and the mind nature is greedy for pleasant pleasure to the 6 senses that is why people reproducing to suffer more

@@Sifat-y9t The manifested universe is an infinite succession of interdependent phenomena which form a whole without beginning nor end, this is in a perpetual movement of transformations and mutations. What we define as “I” or “me” is a being individuated during its experience, but the Buddha goes further in the teaching on the fact of individuality to explain the traps of the ego.
@Rockman-qo7zy9 ай бұрын
@@Sifat-y9t there is something....there can't be nothing at all. Yes , there is something but that something is very deep hard to see and hard to understand, peaceful and sublime, unattainable by mere reasoning, subtle, to be experienced by the wise. But this generation delights in attachment, takes delight in attachment, rejoices in attachment. It is hard for such a generation to see this truth, namely, specific conditionality, dependent origination. And it is hard to see this truth, namely, the stilling of all formations, the relinquishing of all acquisitions, the destruction of craving, dispassion, cessation, Nibbāna.
@sunkintree9 ай бұрын
@@Sifat-y9t It's an illusion. A chair is only a chair because a very specific assembly of atoms organize themselves in a certain way. In reality, there is no chair, it's just something the mind makes up because it finds it useful to point to things and call it names. Likewise, what we call the 'self' is nothing more than a specific assembly of memories, sensations, mindstates.

Great work generally on the channel. First time i take issue with the answer. The language-based "I" does not exist, it's just a series of firmly-held thoughts. Our bodies do exist but are not distinct from our surroundings, like a wave is not distinct from its ocean. The distinction is created by our thoughts.

I was schooled as a Christian and still appreciate being taught the teachings of Jesus Christ. However, when I was about 12 years of age I suddenly felt an affinty with the Buddha. Despite being born in a rich nation, and having a free education, and no hunger or war in my life. Even at 12 years of age, I could see that all attachment was eventually going to lead to pain. People you love either die or leave you. So, for decades I just lived in the moment as much as possible. Now in my fifties I found I am attached to somebody. I care so much for this person, but I am also depressed because I am attached and I know they will die, or I will die, or they will leave me. I think in the modern world, we have all forgotten how important wider relationships are, as we have been sold a lie about pairing off. In fact, we should be living in communes, families and tribes and sharing love and attachment so that the grief of loss is never so horrific.

On this topic we have to consider the fact of interdependence of all things, all phenomenas, all the creations in the serveral worlds , in the Universe which have no begining and no end. When we meditate on it, we can say notably that if all is interdépendant, nothing can exists by itself, as a tree can't exist without the elements of earth, sky and water and these elements can't exist without other elements and this process has no end. The fact of no self is mainly supporting by the realisation of the interdependence into the mystery of the creation which can't be described with a beginning and a end and where all things move in transitional and cyclical ways. The science which is at the origine of this process can't be exposed with accuracy nor in its entirety, so we are a lot of ignorant about "ourselves" . That's why Bouddha did'nt speek about one self nor about God, what or who is God. But he didn't deny nor affirm something about, just teached on how to get the enlightenment to be aware on what can't be said and described. In islam the idea of God is named but it is also said that Allah is indescribable and without beginning or end, that is why muslims people also must be humble regarding to the immeasurable and the science which surpasses all the intellectual concepts of human beings. That is really interesting to recall and meditate. But at a moment we have to let down the mental activity, the analysis. Be careful because when you let go of the intellect, mental activities, to stand is peace and silent, you open the door to a kind of land which is called infinity.
