The Prince Estate is the biggest threat to his music being released.
@sampson31212 ай бұрын
They don't want a hit piece released to tarnish his legacy. The man isn't even alive to defend himself, which is always the way these leeches make their money. Why is it that Mercury Elvis and other famous legends have docs that celebrate the music and Prince has one to destroy it?
@mscapricorn-ce1pl3 ай бұрын
The fans who have been a fan since 1980s would like to see more Prince documentaries about: His music, 40 plus studio albums, singles, music videos, movies he directed/starred in, the music he composed for aspiring/novice singers, concerts, tours, etc.

The doc is by Oscar-winning director Ezra Edelman. This needs to be released.
@sampson31212 ай бұрын
No it doesn't. It's basically a hit piece on a man that isn't alive to defend anything in it. Why would his estate support such a thing?

No we don't. I can sum it up like this. He wasn't as good as some thought he was or worse. He was human. He sinned, had difficulties and successes. In short he was human. He made some bad choices and tried to correct his mistakes. RIP Prince. 💜

Well we know how amazing he is but what about those who don't?what about honouring his legacy and allowing future generations to discover what we already know?
@lavenderbee36113 ай бұрын
The estate believes this documentary will hurt his legacy, their job is to protect it. If the documentary was honoring his legacy, there wouldn't be a block on it's release. Prince will not pass the purity test of the younger generation, nor would any rock, pop, or funk legend of the past

Did anyone really expect Netflix to produce a loving and balanced portrait of a cherished artist? They love to produce sleazy exposés. I don't know how one of the judge appointed banks could have made a deal like this, it's not fair to the estate.
@odiumgeneris7294 ай бұрын
With respect, if it's "loving", then it can't be "balanced". Have you ever tried to tell a parent that's something is wrong with their kid? There's no balance in that reaction. Let me just say it out loud since the comments section is dancing all around it: *we all love Prince's music, but nobody is perfect, and you are just afraid to see the flaws that you may not have known about.* If I were you, and you wanted to protect the legacy of prince in your own mind, I wouldn't watch any documentary that came out about him. Just stick with the music.
@lavenderbee36113 ай бұрын
@@odiumgeneris729 I thought Netflix's Maestro was a wasted opportunity about the the wonderful Leonard Bernstein. The least interesting thing about Lenny was his homosexuality, selfishness and long suffering wife. I wanted to see a movie about the genius, the music, the man who inspired a generation which was completely missing. We are all full of flaws and I'm not blind to Prince's dark side which is out there if you look. Netflix has a knack for sensationalizing the negative and dramatizing it to make money. Cat Glover walked out of the interview and told everybody it was a hit piece. I agree with the estate on this one, they have stated it's an inaccurate portrait. However, I would love to see some of the vault video recordings and music.

Let’s be honest..we DID want to see this documentary. No, we didn’t “need” it, but all of us would’ve watched it! But if it wasn’t accurate (as the estate claims) then I’m glad that it got shelved..there have been a LOT of false stories about the man that have come out since his death in books, magazine articles, cable shows, etc and we definitely don’t need anymore of them.

Well said sir. We don’t need a documentary. We already have one - his music. I want, just like the rest of us, unreleased music, gigs etc. Turning 50 in a few months and time is flying like anything. Please listen to us, Estate!

Do we, purple fam, need it? Not really but new generations do. I was really excited when Ava Duvernay was at the helm but I believe she left because the Estate was trying to manage her. The Estate is saying there are "factual inaccuracies" but are not giving specifics and run-time as to why they are blocking the doc. I only knew about Edlman's OJ doc but have recently learned that he has done the Stax series, which is very well done. I don't need a sqeaky clean doc as Prince was human and had faults. How those are presented or focused on is my only worry. I hope we get to see this doc and I hope it's well done.

@vincelfkАй бұрын
well yeah, we his following have always been satisfied with just the music, & Prince the artist & entertainer.. unfortunately the general public likes taking deep dives into folks personal life, & in a scandal driven society it all gets rocky I can also see the need to humanize a very cryptic personality. Prince music didn't always reveal it concealed, & was his defense against the chaos of the world. So like Prince, this is a very complex situation, & not as simple as the music revealed everything. For me the music is enough, it helped get me through so much trauma. For others who want to know who the man actually was, cryptic interviews with statements like "look 2 the dawn" may not be enough. It's complicated.

The Estate is only going to be happy if it is all positive about Prince. They are not happy about it being disclosed that he punched Jill Jones, groomed young girls, being mean and nasty and his long- term drug addiction Oh yeah, he also had cosmetic surgery. I would love a 9 hour documentary on his music from start to finish

@MrAntsworldofPrince3 ай бұрын
@johnpetrou6 yes unfortunately it seems that this documentary seems to have been more about digging up dirt about Prince as appsose to focusing on his music and his talent. Unfortunately, this is going to become global news due to a new York Times piece about the documentary. The estate are fighting to keep the documentary banned from being shown, but once the news breaks prince’s reputation is going to suffer possibly irreparably whether he is innocent or not.

I think it really depends on who "we" is referring to. As Prince fans, no, we don't necessarily need a Netflix documentary. But if "we" is referring to the general public who may not be familiar with Prince, I think it's absolutely vital to continuing his legacy. Netflix currently has 277 million subscribers and there are even more people who aren't subscribed that will be exposed to subsequent content created regarding anything that is released. While I agree that the Prince fan community doesn't need anything more than what Prince already created for us, I also think it's selfish to not want to do everything possible to expose new listeners to his work.
From what I've heard the doc is just a hate piece. While docs and movies are made about many legends, none have tried so hard to make them look so bad. How dare they do a hit piece and the man it's about isn't even alive to defend himself. I side with his estate on this one.

The BBC showed some great performances on their Prince special weekend - and that slot is used all the time for musician showcases. Maybe leave the ‘woke agenda’ obsessions to the Daily Mail too.
@MrAntsworldofPrince5 ай бұрын
@peterfll well that maybe, but the fact is they needlessly cut out a huge segment of the purple rain show and showing it at that time of night isn't going to attract the masess . Yes, I saw that special, and it was good to see some of those performances again but they did have to fill it with covers as he only appeared on TOTP a handful of times.
@peterfll5 ай бұрын
@@MrAntsworldofPrince it’s not a prime time slot no, but my point was the BBC use it for showcasing particular artists all the time. It has nothing to do with Prince specifically. As for their reasons for cutting short the concert, I agree that ideally that should have left it intact. But suggesting it was due to censorship or whatever “woke agenda” means is nonsense, IMO, they had no issue leaving in Wendy simulating fellatio on Prince 😂 during Computer Blue so 🤷
@MrAntsworldofPrince5 ай бұрын
@peterfll appreciate your point but there is whole lot of stuff they left out which could be with today's mindset considered offensive or controversial. This whole section is missing. Yankee doodle Do me baby Irresistible bitch Possesed How come you don't call me anymore Let's pretend we're married International lover and finally God. I mean, take your pick. Is it prince talking about orgaasm or maybe his arse or is it his conversation with God who knows but it's a massive part of the show gone. Anyway I suppose we should be thankful we are at least getting something.
