I remember years back a 5 year old in my town got lost in the woods. They considered sending a rescue squad consisting mostly of firemen, policemen and paramedics but they decided against it as they were mostly men so it seemed too dangerous and sent a pack of bears instead. Yeah it’s a shame that women need to feel that way about strangers due to cases of random attacks, creepy men and big news stories/True crime about serial killers/rap1sts etc, but the overwhelming majority of violence against women is committed by someone the woman knows personally in their own homes, not strangers - and in the rare cases of random attacks it’s in 99,9% of cases in urban areas, not the forest or countryside. I think if you’ve ever encountered a Grizzly in the forest and know the statistic probability of assault by strangers, you would pick the man every time.

In the past weeks there have been protests in New Zealand and Australia due to femicides...there have been men who stabbed children...they went to playgrounds and schools and homes to specifically stab children in Ireland, England, Chicago etc., Men have shot babies in the US and in Europe in the past 6 months...there have been horrific SA cases in the US lately too involving children as well. There have been home invasions and What planet are you from? On the streets on NYC men were going around punching random women recently not to mention the man with a history of domestic violence who got out of jail and then pushed his girlfriend in front of an oncoming subway train. Expand your horizons and you cannot deny that men are the ones doing these atrocious things and have been since historical journals were being kept. 99 % of the time it is a man. Sure, we're not at risk from the majority of men- especially if they can play superhero- but that sure leaves a LOT (many more than bears!) who would take advantage of our vulnerability.

If you take all the men ages 18-60 in the world and all adult big bears in the world, randomize two candidates of 1 man and 1 bear and spawn them with you in the middle of a remote forest. The bear is infinitely more likely to harm you than the man. The most dangerous place for a woman to be is in her own bedroom or kitchen with a partner/ex-parter or family member present. Attacks from strangers is very very rare.

@@Fluxwux Except for sexual harassment and attacks, you're right. But see, we know that if we run into a strange man in the forest, our chances of being AT LEAST propositioned are extremely high. So no, it's not likely to be a physical attack or attempted murder, but we ALWAYS have to be ready to reject unwanted proposals from men- something we never have to worry about with bears. I work with men who have abused their female partners. I ask them how often the women in their lives (non-intimate partners) have been sexually harassed, street-called, molested or raped, and they severely underestimate the number. Also, they don't really see anything less than a rape by a stranger as a sexual assault.

@@beattitude12 The vast majority of violence against women, SA and murder is still perpetrated by someone that the woman knows - not strangers and especially not strangers in the forest or rural areas. The only thing more common by strangers is unwanted approaches and cat calling (which also is mostly an urban problem, not something happening in the forest by hikers or hunters). Another reason why the statistics is skewed towards men is because women come in contact with men tens of thousands of times every year, while on average there are zero interactions with bears. But that makes the comparison quite dishonest - I can guarantee you that if you accidentally stumble in to a Grizzly in the the middle of the woods, you’re still 1 million times more likely to die or get injured compared to if you stumble in to a random man. I understand why women are more afraid of men than bears because lots of bad stuff is happening and it’s part of most women’s lives. But statistically speaking and looking at it objectively - it’s still not logical to prefer the bear.

I know it can seem strange that most women said they would take their chances with a bear, but I understand when you think about it. Bears generally aren't running up on people and attacking them, and there are also steps you can take to prevent bears from wanting to attack you or even scaring them off. I don't think a woman putting her arms in the air and yelling is going to scare a man off like it would a bear. Bears do not have guns. Lastly, the worst a bear will do is maul you. There are far worse things men have done to women. P.S.: This is not to say that men are terrible, wild, or dangerous on average.

People are ignoring the main point of a question. If you are in close proximity of a bear there is a high chance of death depending on the species. Whereas it depends if you choose the man the type of person they are, within the total male population about 5-6% of those have commit a crime related to sexual assaults but you also have to remember that some of it could also be false allegations where they where arrested without the crime being committed. If you look at that percentage against the male population that is around 200 thousand potential humans. With an estimated population of 1.2 million bears across all species 200k of those in most cases you will die as they are highly aggressive. The other 1m you have a chance to survive but that is with proper training on how to deal with each species. Because it does not outline what species it is you can remove around 750k as the question referees to dangerous species of the amount of bears which drops it down to 450k. That is almost double with the 200 thousand males having potential false sentences. With around 5% of the population being trained properly because they live in zones with bears you can say that 92-93% of the population has not been trained properly as people have probably been taught the basics. This is not including the 1/4 chance to get the highly aggressive species. I can not deny that there are higher numbers of unknown attacks on women but this is raw statistics. With this information it is ridiculous to assume choosing the bear is the best option as majority of the population would want to get back to civilization. Whereas with the bear most people will die in the case they choose it. I know that people choose the bear because of media covering horrific acts that are committed and personal experience but from a logical viewpoint it would be stupid to not choose the man. This is if the question is you directly encounter the one you choose in close proximity, not if you where to find them from a distance.

Not the shark who touched me, not the rattlesnake who I got dangerously close to, not the widows who lived all around my house, not the Coyote, bear or mountain lions I’ve ever seen/encountered, have attacked. On the other hand, at six, I was made to watch a family member R another family member. The perpetrator was male. Molested by a family member at seven (male), nearly R at 12 (two males). I was hit on by three high school teachers (male and one forced himself on me), was R myself at 19 (male), and assaulted or harassed dozens of times. All males. Bear. I take the bear.
