What a fascinating question!! Men have surely failed women in several ways. This is a price we have paid as a species for being human with intelligence in an animal body with instincts, urges, hormones which some men have not been able to control. Women by nature have needed protection from their men in return for nurturing over the ages. Sadly men in nearly all societies have abused their physical strength and testosterone drive. This abuse carried on in urban modern societies giving women limited access to education, workforce etc etc. Sexism is another form of abuse and the fight against it has gone awry .

No. It's what worked. It wasn't "failure". What's going on now, with Men vs Women is really not working, if the super low fertility rate is any indication. Black Widow Spider and Praying Mantis organisms are successful so long as the males are placed in extreme jeopardy while breeding. However, if they became intelligent enough to override their instinct, and chose to stay away from the Females to preserve their existence, they will be the last generation EVER of their species. Humans are brutal, dangerous animals, able to defeat all other beasts and currently dominate the world. What has happened historically was WHAT WORKED, what's going on now, is NOT WORKING.

​@@singh6799you missed the point . The point of question is not surviving but out of respect and fear of getting tortured you have to die either way. A bear will kill you out of defence or hunger. But there's worse things than this with a man alone in woods 🙂.
