I live outside of a very, very small town of like 600 people on a farm in southeast Oklahoma and I wear all of my weird offputting vintage clothes to the dentist or the grocery store or church. And you may ask? Don’t you get stared at? Yes yes, I do. Does your family make fun of you? Yes, yes they do. With my autism and social anxiety somehow I’ve gotten more comfortable and dressing the way that I want to in public. Than I was when I was stuck and not knowing how to dress for myself. Very eye opening for me as a older woman that loves mixing masculine and feminine clothes together and finding myself not dressing like I want to because I basically live in a small town and women typically don’t dress like I like to, but if I visit near bye San Francisco I would dress fully the way I want to and not worry about it. I used to Love platform sneakers but then hated them but i kind of realised it wasnt the platform but more so the BRIGHT colours. I remember one shoe that had coral, bright blue, neon yellow and green. They really didnt look good. My uncle bought me a platgorm sneaker but with chapagne and gold and honestly they're lovely. Sometimes trends have to just be bent to our liking to be sustainable in our closets.

rly good point on the isabel marant sneakers, but i do have to say sometimes designer items are just nicer and have better design, less logos and ugly colours (sometimes!). For example I have always hated sambas and a lot of other "slim sole" sneakers, but I have had maison margiela "replica" sneakers for years and liked them pre samba and still wear them now

as for the 'do you like the brand' point, that hasnt been my experience bc i LOVE my asics sneakers, but similarly to salomon they just have *so many* designs for all different types of sports/activites and while i do love my own pair, some of the designs they put out are just UGLY AS SIN to me lol. but i do agree this point works for smaller brands that are currently trendy and/or have one item thats going viral (example - lirika matoshi w the strawberry dress)

Tbh with footwear I think u r right, it’s a bit different bc if you are buying sports footwear (like ASICS or salomons etc) some of their items will be more directed at everyday wear and others will be more directed to high performance in sports , the ones for us normal folk lol are probably made with more aesthetics in mind than the ones made for athletes ,, idk lol

Ah pls don’t get them right now imo , think how quickly bayonetta glasses came in and out, then jimmy fairly glasses came in and out , now it’s the miu miu glasses. Wait until they aren’t as trendy and see if you still like them bc they r v v expensive for a pair of glasses. SAYING THAT I think they are super super cute and if you need prescription lenses and don’t wear contacts you will be wearing them evey day , if you already wear glasses, have the funds lol and know they are your kind of style I think they are cute, but if you are trying glasses bc it’s cute to wear glasses atm - just remember when all the rich American housewives got laser eye surgery bc glasses were ugly. This is a very helpful video!! But as some one who has always had a strong sense of my personal style but only started consuming fashion content online in the past 2 years, (i know that sounds odd but i swear i just wasnt in the little corner of the internet) The best thing you can do if you are struggling to not be influenced/dont know your own style, is to STOP looking in this corner of the internet.
