Alaimo (Dukat) was really imposing, and could do "composed, in peace with himself," as well as could "war criminal" and "raging mad".

The interaction between Dukat and Sisko always made for great TV during the DS9 run ...... but this episode went next level. EASILY one of the top 5 episodes in DS9 lore. probably top 10 over all the Star Trek series.

Great that Starfleet had the idea to have a high level prisoner on a single starship with no escort!

It was all Starfleet could spare. Kira herself said later that only two ships were available to go on the search-and-rescue mission, and one of those ships was under a strict time limit.

I'm speaking from unfortunate personal experience when I say that Dukat is a very accurate portrayal of a malignant narcissist. They are obsessed that others not view them negatively, no matter how many heinous things they've done. Sisko's refusal to engage Dukat in a discussion of Dukat's own personality and failings and his obvious distaste -- well let's just say I've been in his shoes too many times.

Once again showing how idiotic the UFP can be, you have a high value prisoner the former head of the cardassian union, and instead of waiting until the end of the war, you transport him near contested zones in a war you still have no guarantee of winning, for the purposes of a mere formality hearing? Dumb

Was Dukat angry at Damar for killing Ziyal?
@jackvearncombe9892 Жыл бұрын
@pnorbert2222 it's a bit more complex than that. By that time Dukat had fully embraced the Pah-Wraith Juju and didn't really care about anything but fulfilling their wishes. I believe that, had they both survived the war, and this episode not happened, Dukat had been successfully transported to whatever black-site prison he was going to. He would probably either blame Damar or himself.
@tonyk91369 ай бұрын
I feel Dukat wouldn’t have been angry, as even though he was an egotist, he believed to a degree in some form of duty and punishment. When he accepts Ziyal as his daughter, it costs him his family and position. but despite being given a minor ship for his failings later on, he accepts it because it was the proper thing to do for his failings. I think he would extend the same idea to Damar, yes mad at the loss of his daughter, but recognizing she was a traitor and damar did his duty as a cardassian.

@@BravoDox I'm not sure what you mean. I was never fooled into rooting for him and never thought he was a good guy, I never said any of that. Everyone seen he was a brutal warlord at the head of an oppressive dictatorship, it wasn't hidden from anyone. My comment is was about the writers turning him into a batshit crazy nut job who hallucinates about DS9 staff members and then turned to the supernatural as a means to enact petty vengeance.
@Bitchslapper3164 жыл бұрын
@@BravoDox That is correct but he wasn't completely insane, he was a cruel and calculated warlord. He wasn't seeing ghosts and worshiping supernatural creatures to further his agenda.

I respect your feelings. I like the episode for its acting, but in terms of plot it's kind of out there...Dukat was never the all-hating person he's portrayed in this episode. He's honestly spent this whole show sucking up to the Bajorans, and we're supposed to believe he hates them? It's more complicated than that.
@askjeevescosby29289 ай бұрын
I love this show but the ending where he gets possessed by some demon and burns to death with Sisco is just a stupid way to end it. So much character development thrown out the window for a stupid cartoonist ending. Out of all star trek I feel like dukat should be redeemed. It really should have been him to turn first not dumar. He was such a no name character him turning wasn't surprising at all.
