I learned something new this week. (I just love learning 🥰)
Did you know that an extreme fear of night or darkness is called nyctophobia?
A potential client told me that when darkness falls, she becomes highly anxious and fearful, to the extent that she is unable to fall asleep.
That piqued my curiosity, and I started researching this specific type of fear.
Darkness signals nighttime, and for someone who is unable to sleep at night, that can cause severe anxiety or fear. It makes sense, right? We know that the nervous system refers to our past experiences so if we struggle with sleep, it is activated in anticipation of another terrible night's sleep ahead, creating all this worry and fearfulness.
Of course, I immediately thought about how we could use tapping to address her nyctophobia and reset her nervous system to let it know that she is safe at nighttime. Without knowing all the details about where this fear originated, I decided to see what tapping might look like for someone with this issue.
In this week's video, I take you through a few tapping rounds on how to support yourself at bedtime when it gets dark outside.
If this is part of your experience, I would love to hear from you. My hope is that you find this video useful.
Hugs
Carol
