im so happy people are fighting about against grind/productivity/stimulation mindset/pressure - we need time to let our minds reflect and speak to us and give us ideas and insights - productivity becomes counterproductive to productivity and other things if not pursued in balance #balance

it's been really helpful for me to think - what am I being productive for? as in, what's the goal? is there a goal? am I working really hard so I can provide for my family? great - just make sure I actually spend time with the family. :)

slow is smooth reminds me of japanese deliberation in their small daily ceremonial rituals like pruning plants or preparing tea - we forget what's important and chase mirages and delusions - all the while, the most important things in the world are waiting all around us

agreed, this video made me think so much about the japanese movie Perfect Days

Absolutely beautiful mate, slowing down makes you realise how fascinatingly simple our nature really is. Just the way God has created it. The stillness of the night, constellation of stars, even trees under a moonlit sky. Beautiful things when looked individually are surprisingly simple.

from websters: a stitch in time (saves nine) idiom -used to say that it is better to fix a problem when it is small than to wait and let it become a bigger problem

great saying actually. I guess there's a balance between this & "do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. sufficient for the day is its own trouble." preparing for the future is good - being present in the moment = also good.

Thank you for this video. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me, as I am struggling to balance rest and work. I’m off for Thanksgiving but feel like I have to work to catch up/get ahead, and it’s making me miserable. I really need to put away my projects for a while because I’m getting burnt out. Thanks again, and enjoy your vacation.

hope you had a restful thanksgiving break :) sometimes we do have to work to catch up/get ahead, that's totally valid, but hopefully you were able to take some time off and clear your head.

I have realised that as I grow older, things become more complex and take longer to do. You mentioned something similar in your video 'be the forest fire' where you spoke about the 'how' being complicated but crucial. This new complexity makes me feel like I'm slow and everyone else is moving fast and forward, which is obviously not true and I have to keep reminding that to my silly brain. Simplifying, doing a little bit of everything (work, play and rest) and staying consistent is key. P.S. I can never talk about just one video of yours. They're all connected.
@timdemoss15 күн бұрын
just remember that the world feels complicated now BECAUSE you've gone through and learned the simpler things, and now you're facing new stuff. if it kept feeling simple I think it would be a sign that you haven't quite moved to where you want to be. you sound like you're doing great :) thanks for watching & for your thoughts!

@timdemoss oh wow, that makes sense, I'll make sure to tell this to my silly brain next time it's overwhelmed. Thank you for your kind words and motivation (here and in your videos too). I appreciate it :))

thanks mr. demoss! super timely upload, i just found this channel ten minutes ago and definitely needed that :) i'm reading "the ruthless elimination of hurry" by john mark comer right now, and would definitely recommend it. there's a simplicity section that i'm letting marinate in my mind right now in which he references the same thoreau passage. some amazing stuff about the ideas of sabbath and rest, maybe you'd enjoy it!

that sounds really fantastic, I've heard of it but only in passing. I'll add it to the (long) list :) thanks for stopping by ruby!

I have driving lesson tests (if that's how it's called? english isn't my native language) and I have had trouble reading, but no trouble playing games. Playing games felt like working rather than relaxing. I'm a bit lost - no clue what I meant to say by this. I can read right now - no problem! Your videos are awesome, love from Czechia.
