A fun thing about my unfinished projects. They all have names, but I never call them by their name. Is aways "the mobile game", "the short story", "the card game"... Só... Yea, tip number 6. Call your projects by their name

this isn't about projects but i like to name my days in the morning on my journal, as if it's an episode. sometimes its related to what i want to accomplish, others its just as random as "chamomile tea". naming my days makes them feel distinct from each other and personal. as if i'm acknowledging that i own my time in a way? i guess you could say it's making your days projects, i like the thought of that. awesome video, as always:)!

For a moment, I thought I didn't identify with this, but then I realized that this also applies when you *rename* a project. In my back catalogue, many of my projects have names. Not long ago, with a short story I conceived a few years ago, I changed the name and it actually solidified the theme I was going for, which helped me fully edit and finish the story. That was my first-ever completed work. And now with a different short story I've returned to recently, I realized that the title doesn't actually fit what the story needs to evolve into, and once that new title comes to me, I can tell it will unlatch the flood gates. Thanks for the inspo, Tim!

my creative project is building a simple guitar, its the first time im making one. something that helped me was telling people about my project, like i message my friends who care with progress pics. at work most of my coworkers are really nice, and i told them about my project too and now like everytime some of them see me they're like, how is the guitar and they seem genuinely excited to see my project. so i guess another tip is telling nice ppl about ur project.

Poetry Collection Titles I havent finished, "Coffee & Contemplation," "Going Back to Happy Lane," and "Friends and Friends of Friends," have been things I've been working on for a bit! The titles have helped me keep going at least somewhat. Also have a few short story or fiction story ideas floating around!

it's definitely nothing groundbreaking (I imagine a lot of people give their work titles) but it was really helpful for me to think through why I do it. glad it was helpful for you too! and agree on fun names being best - always always more fun!

A favorite writer of Ours gives his projects cool code names; "AGAMEMNON" "PHOSPHOR BEND" "ALECTO" etc. This was primarily to avoid mentioning too much about yet to be announced projects but We find it adapts well to this methodology.

I'd love to tackle this in a future video sometime...in the meantime, a really standard way I use sometimes is to just use the first line of whatever the poem/song/story is. works really well with poetry. old hymns used to do this too (Amazing Grace). but also, a lot of the time, I find my titles come first & then I end up making a project around them. I did a video a few months ago about a story called "Pruneboy Tom at the End of the Earth" and I have no idea where the title came from, but I wrote it down & then months later I actually wrote a story to match it. so maybe some advice would be: if some weird phrase comes to mind, write it down, and then later make a project to go along with it.

I would love to do this, but unfortunately I found that when I title something in the early stages, the context surrounding the title changes so it no longer represents my book as a whole. If I change the title to better suit the new direction my story is going in, then I forget that new name as I worked on the story with the previous name for much longer. But if I don't name my book at all, I'll completely forget about it. Do you have any advice on what I should do?
@bear3s2 ай бұрын
I don't think naming your project (in your case book) is actually meant to be its title. You can give it a person's name, a nickname or anything like that to make it personal, then just give it an official title when it's finished
@WritingRain2 ай бұрын
@@bear3s oh. i didn't think of that. i'll try that method. thank you.

you could always try that two-title thing some books and movies do! Moby-Dick; or, The Whale - Walden; or, Life in the Woods - Birdman; or, The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. I don't know the history of why they chose two titles, but it could be a fun way for you to sandwich both names, at least until the new name sticks in your head and you can ditch the old name :)
