A birthday zippo, what a cool idea! With the month code confirming your lighter was produced the same month and year as it's user; I seriously love that! I'm definitely adding it to my zippo radar. It will have to match my personality a bit as well!

Nope. Still familiarizing myself with Zippo date codes. Only '86 and newer Zippos have the month code. I was born too soon to get in on that action! With prior Zippos only marked by year codes, I suppose that will make the hunt a bit too easy. I'll need to just find the One from 83 that matches my personality to a tee!

Absolutely! Yeah anything pre 1986 you just gotta settle for the year, but I know some collectors who are a bit other, their main theme is their birth year. The only zippos they collect are that year. Pretty cool!

My gramps was a pipe smoker. He always smoked cherry flavor tobacco. After he passed i carried his zippo around with me everyday for years. I don't know if I still have that lighter but I still have his pipes. I have found a few zippo lighters at the swap meet near me. Bought a table lighter for 5 dollars and another one for 2 dollars. I don't think the seller knew what he had. Happy hunting

What impresses me about Zippo is how simple and how durable it is. For this reason, it is enough to own one and enjoy its use over the years. Scratches and wear accumulate, while I change the flint and wicks, fill it with gasoline, and I'm happy. A Zippo for life that I love.

I bought my first Zippo a few days ago. It's a replica of the 1941, crackle black (I think that's the name of the model) but with a brass US emblem. Its date is J15 and its insert is I15. I'm very excited about the purchase, but it's missing the fluid and the necessary accessories for maintenance.

Good breakdown of most of the major types. Might I suggest maybe getting at least one vintage advertisement lighter from the 50's or 60's. They can be had for relatively cheap for well worn but still perfect good ones (Down to about $20 for good worn copies) and are often a little bit of a "Time capsule" if you can get one with some old school logo or design from years past. Vintage advert lighters represent about 80% of my collection and it can be an interesting challenge to research and dig up facts about a company or design from years past, even if they've been defunct for decades.

One of my favorites in my collection is my Lady Bradford table lighter. Also like how you have your channel lighter as #10, just awesome. Glad I have one of those too😁✌

I would said technically a 1932 replica is a 1933 replica. They didn’t sell Zippo to the public until 1933. Lady Barbara are cool, I’m looking for the 65th anniversary one next. 😁 Thanks for the support 😊

I used to have one of the 1932 replicas as well. I had to look it up and the story I found (may have just been a made up myth) was that they put out the ‘32 replicas and an employee pointed out that while founded in ‘32, the first model was not sold until ‘33. That’s why there aren’t many ‘32 replicas out there. They killed the run.

@josh8494 I've not heard that one. Makes sense though. I've read that very few were made late 1932 and actual production didn't start until 1933. The 1933 replicas are expensive compared the the 1932 replicas though. Part of why I do not have one yet.

I enjoy collecting zippos with the zippo logo, and some vintage ones. One of my last zippos that i got, was a birthday zippo with the logo on lit :). i have a solid brass with a different stamp on it, 1932 zippo 1991 i can only find that it is a commemorative version, do you know more about these commemoratives versions of the solid brass?

Many solid brass between 1991-1993 had commemorative stamps, not sure why the odd number years, but they are out there

Any advice on finding a steel Zippo? I know they where steel during WW2 and apparently also Korea. While a war lighter would be cool I would like a non war steel to actually use

Those are the only 2 time period steel Zippos. (42-45) (51-53) The 51-53 Steel Zippo would be the best/ easiest to find. (Hard to find in good condition) that time period was sold to the public, where the WW2 time periods were not. If you want a Steel EDC my recommendation would be the VJ/VE Day commemorative Zippo.

I think you should get every form factor at least. Like 32/35/37/41 replicas, bottomz up, slim and armor, then different metals like solid brass and solid copper. That's pretty much top 10

Thanks for the comment! Zippo does not release production numbers for Zippos produced (unless numbered of course.) However, if a company orders Zippos with their brand on it, you could contact the company to see how many they ordered. The replica, that sounds like a fair price. Hope this helps!

@@rmabgoi I would have to see the design but surprisingly Niagra falls zippos don’t increase the value astronomically like that. You can find vintage Niagra falls under $100 depending on the design. There’s a good bit going between $30-$50. So without seeing the Zippo $300-$400 seems to be a huge reach.
