Oooh I’m so excited, I have opal chips as well as carnelian, garnet, amethyst and other crystals like rose quartz and you’ve given me a great idea for use with polymer clay. Thank you!

You can put the epoxy in a vacuum chamber before using it to avoid bubbles. You could also hit it quickly with a lighter/blow torch to top the bubbles before they harden. Great work sir.

Still catching up. Great vids. I learn something new every time. Just about to start my first try at opals. Taken years to collect all that I need, but ready to roll! 63 and bad hands but if I can have fun with learning, it is worth a bash. Greetings from Dimboola in Victoria.

Hi Robert. Thank you for sharing your experience with opal cutting with us all. Have you ever tried to patch the small pits in the resin joins by remixing some resin and reworking? Thanks again for sharing. 👍
@diverseopalproducts13 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and your feedback. It may be able to be done successfully but I have never bothered. The video enlarges the pendant, maybe 10x. In real life you may be struggling to see the pits and your eye is usually on the opal and nothing else. I hope you have success if you are going to give it a go.

GOOD STUFF MATE i have a fare bit of chips which supposedly are caller opal rough for cutting on the sale description that are as small as peas and grains of wheat dont know how you are suppose to cut them in a beginner parcel 70% and 30% maybe the size you can cut unfortunately, so mite be able to sprinkle some of these tiny picas onto the glue and grind back to see what happens i dont know how some of them get away with it but i think its buyer beware, you do a top job
@diverseopalproducts2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback again. Buying rough can be a little tricky. Look for a reference point, maybe a ruler. Don't be daunted by the size of the pieces of rough. Take your time with a finer grade, you can possibly cut some nice earrings. If you are going to make the pendent with them, see which side faces best, then grind the opposite side flat for a base. Paint the base black to highlight the colour. The I think you know the rest. I am sure you will do well.

Thankyou so very much for your helpful video. I think you have solved a problem for me. I have some sentimental pieces from my Dad which l had cut into cabs. They are from Coober Pedy and l didn't know what to use on the back of them to make the colour more pounced before l make them into a gold setting. Thanks for that. I love that you have very little wastage of opal. This video was just great and l'll save it for reference. Cheers, Janice Ps. Where can l buy lamp black. I live Melbourne.

Great Video , Lovely Pendant , I have a couple of Questions ,it looks like theres little air bubbles formed in the epoxy , do you think thats from the heating up process ? is there a need to heat it up ? and have you got any suggestions on where to look for chips like that , that parcel looks spectacular
@diverseopalproducts2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback and questions. Yes, there are bubbles. I mixed it quickly that's why the epoxy has a slightly white appearance. If I was making a triplet or doublet I would take time to mix the epoxy slowly on the hot plate to reduce the possibility of this happening. The heat I am using is not enough to cause bubbles. I always use heat with 24 hour UHU epoxy, it sets faster and harder. Yes the chips a quite special. I will keeping them for a rainy day. 🙂We will list some other chips in our eBay store in the coming week.
