I Just put in my application today for a dental assistant job that I didn't go to school for. They are willing to teach me on the job training if I get it. I'm also 44 so it's not too late for those who think it is, and a lot of the employees there are in their mid forties as well.

I've been out of the dental field since April 2020 because of covid. I finished school in March and just had my first job as a DA but then got laid off because of covid. Now it's been almost a WHOLE YEAR, being a stay at home mom and having given birth in November (mom of 2 now) and I feel like I forgot completely everything. Few things I remember but I definitely need a refresher because I plan to go back to my old job in March 😅. I definitely plan on binge watching all your DA videos🙏🙏🙏

What makes me sick I went to school to be a dental assistant graduated top in my class Ace my board exam still can't find job I've only had three interviews in a year and every dentist tells me since I have no experience he does not want to hire me because he doesn't want to train me and that sucks

I’m sorry to hear that! It can be difficult to find an office that’s willing to train you or have an assistant with little experience. Have you tried volunteering at an office? That would give you some experience. Or try applying for other positions within a dental office and work your way up to an assistant. I hope this helps! Best of luck girl. 🦷💕

No. I am not a dental assistant. It's a very long story but short of it is I reside in Florida and they had a program during covid through the unemployment office and it was a 3 month classroom program and a 3 month internship in a dental office when you finish you have t to get the doctor to the sign off an internship to become certified, he refused because because he felt I didn't have the skills necessary So I never completed it. My whole career was based off of him signing that document and now I'm back to being a CNA again.

I tried it. Your job is super challenging, but that was the fun part. What wasn't fun was working for a dentist who belittles his assistants rather than teaches them. "Will train the right individual" but proceeds to have me do tasks with patients without showing me how and leaves the room. Expected me to remember all the steps to a restorative procedure after seeing it done one time on my first day. Got so frustrated with me he ripped a tool from my hand and inadvertently cut me. That was just my first day, and I quit that night. Dude pretty much ruined that entire experience.
@gwen89253 жыл бұрын
I would encourage you to go back if you liked everything else about the job. Finding the right office is hard I won’t lie Dentists can be jerks. My last dentist grabbed me to come closer and would stomp his feet and slam his fists and shout, he was incredibly disrespectful to his staff I actually tried to stick it out there for a little over three months and tried everything I could to improve But You can’t please everyone and sometimes it’s the environment not the job. The dentist I work with now is patient works with me answers any questions I have and.. appreciates me! I enjoy every day I’m in work now and love my coworkers. Don’t let it bring you down it’s a great field if you love the job... also dental hygienists have a lot more freedom from the Dentist if you’re interested in that route
